“it doesn’t really count as flattery when it’s true, does it?” one corner of her mouth softened into a smile with the little quip, the slightest tilt of her head. fee had always put a little more effort in when it came to rey, initially out of what they believed to be necessity. but it had become enjoyable. there was a hint of something genuine there. but the tiny smile fell, brows scrunching at rey’s next words. “you’re too important here. don’t tell poe i said this, but i think he’d kill me if i let you come with me and left them all alone.” she reached up, the cool touch of their fingers light as they tucked a few strands of baby hair back behind her ear. “dathomir is not welcoming to outsiders. i don’t know if i will even be welcome.”

“it’s still flattery.” rey smiled and looked down, nudging fee slightly with her shoulder. she loved how easy it was to talk to fee – and fee seemed so natural with her. no expectations or predispositions. “but thank you.” that little smile fell as fee gently touched her hair. for a moment she turned her cheek into the touch, grateful for the show of affection, grateful for the feeling of someone else’s skin on hers – but she turned away. “i’m not that important,” she said, all too aware of the stubbornness in her voice. “not like they keep saying i am. the jedi aren’t extinct anymore. instead of bringing down the first order i just paved the path for its new leader. i’m not a hero, i’m just...” she sighed. just me, she wanted to say, but it sounded stupid. she looked up at them again, eyebrows creased, determined. “but i can fight. the fact that they’re not welcoming is all the more reason for me to go with you. it would be reckless to go alone.” it was a losing battle, she knew, even as she argued. fee had a way of making everything make sense. “please. once you go, while the holonet is down... if i’m there, i can make sure you’re safe. i’m strong enough to do that at least.”

POE DAMERON SAID: “I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me.”

all the doubts she’d had, all the discomfort she felt in this universe, even among the people she knew, seemed to evaporate. rey had really only known poe for a short amount of time, but he sounded so much like himself that she almost laughed. she didn’t – their conversation was not the sort for laughing – but the stiffness in her shoulders eased. “you are a survivor, poe dameron.” she smiled and looked down, shaking her head. “and if you are made of anything, it’s certainly fire.” rey looked back at him and her smile softened. “poe, i... know you’re not stupid. i know you know i’ve been avoiding you. i’m sorry. this whole thing just feels so... strange. i thought i understood where my path was taking me, but...” she half laughed and waved her hand around her.

ARMITAGE HUX ASKED: “Despite everything, it's still you.”

rey’s skin prickled at the sight of him, and her fingers twitched, wanting to wrap around the hilt of her lightsaber. hux wasn’t exactly the most dangerous of enemies – she felt confident that the force made her quicker on the draw than him with his blaster – but she’d heard... rumors about him. she wasn’t yet confident enough to believe them, but it stilled her hand. “it’s still me,” she repeated, and laughed humorlessly. “you’re so sure?” after all, she wasn’t so sure about everyone else surrounding her. especially the ones she’d known in her old timeline. she was keeping her distance, thinking how strange it was they’d interacted so little but seemed to know so much about each other. was he once a nobody like her? one small person lost in an endless galaxy, somehow thrust into infamy? “so what exactly is it that you want with me, general? to talk? to fight? reminisce about old times?”

   Stassam had made many trips to Takodana, this one would be no different. It offered a lovely little hive of characters, and one never knew who they were going to find lingering about Maz’s castle. Stassam was currently making their way to her castle when they felt a presence in the force, one that they were not going to let go unnoticed. So instead they choose to survey the hills around the castle, enjoying the natural beauty of the world of Takodana, and it was a beautiful world, no one could deny that, and it was important to enjoy the beauty that the galaxy held within it. That was when they saw the figure holonet device in hand, ah yes many more people would be here simply because it was one of the few worlds where you could reach out to others. 

“It would seem you are trying to reach out to someone, but who that someone should be is the question. Ironic, when we could contact anyone in the galaxy we wanted, we never seemed to want to reach out, and now that we can contact barely anyone, it seems we are all rushing to try and find a way to.” 

at first she didn’t feel anything – she too distracted in her own thoughts, the feeling of being lost in the ocean without an oar to pay attention to the movements in the force the way luke and ben had tried teaching her to do. it wasn’t until this stranger was just behind her that rey realized they pulsed within the force. she could feel it. her skin prickled. she turned to face them slowly, careful to keep her features steady. if she had learned anything before and since coming here, it’s that it was better to be a nobody, like she’d been once before. nobody. “interesting theory,” she said humorlessly, and shook her head. he was wrong. all she’d ever done before was try to reach out, and now, despite having people to whom she could reach, she felt... different. “if you ask me, the real difference is the intergalactic threat.”

For once, Milla was actually allowed to take a hike, and she was enjoying her walk through nature. she’d come up the hill to test the new power chargers she’d added to her chair, and they helped push her up. it was good. they were working. before she headed down, though, she saw a girl her age or so standing, overlooking the city.

“it’s a great view, huh?” she called, turning off her power cells and just wheeling her way over on her own power. “You don’t get to see stuff like this much.” she looked out, then turned back to the woman. “I’m Milla.”

rey was taken aback by the sudden company, and an old instinct of going on the defense almost kicked in – but the voice that greeted her was soft, kind. it was strange to think about how rare that had once been for rey – on jakku, she was lucky to go a day without being hit, scolded, or otherwise spoken down to. now, free of those binds, among people of a like mind who believed in her, saw her as a person rather than a resource... she was slowly growing accustomed to the sound of kindness.

“beautiful,” rey agreed, and almost laughed. “where i grew up, this kind of greenery... even the stories people told didn’t dare go as far as to suggest this kind of place existed.” she shook her head, not allowing herself to feel saddened by the thought. things were hard enough as is without letting thoughts of the past wear her down further. she smiled. “i'm rey.”

“because you’re very perceptive?” fee offered in response with a small quip of their lips, as though it might make her next words easier for rey to hear. she didn’t feel any guilt about the lie. it was an easy one, a believable one, and she could not afford to be left in the dark. this was not how the nightsisters had been eradicated once, but… she needed more information about this new threat than what the new republic or rebellion could offer them. “i’m going to go to dathomir. just for a week or two, maybe longer, but to see… what’s going on there, if there’s anything that i can do to help. i doubt there are any kind of functioning comms there.”

“flattery won’t work on me this time, fee.” rey offered a small smile, but her stomach was twisted into a knot. she forced herself to look up at fee, brown eyes more gentle with the other than with most. fee had been a constant since her arrival into this timeline, someone she could trust, rely on, someone who made her feel safe. nothing could cure the displacement rey felt here, but if anything ( or anyone ) could get close, it was fee. “that’s smart,” she said reluctantly. dangerous, of course, but smart. without outside communication, how else could they be sure of what was happening in the galaxy? and though she could tell by the look on fee’s face alone that they would never let her, she said anyway, “i’ll go with you.”

rey had taken the trip to takodana because it was one of the very few planets that still had some sort of communication ability, however limited. there were a few others, of course – but she would be stupid to risk a trip to coruscant, considering it was still under imperial control. she may have been a nobody in this timeline, but it was a foolish risk, and she worked very hard not to take those. and takodana was... special.

of course, once there, once her holonet device showed signs of working... she realized she didn’t know who to reach out to. everything felt so different, now – the world was familiar enough in its way, but the way she felt within it... it was wrong. she barely felt like she belonged in her own skin, let alone in this galaxy. what if all her friends were different, too?

rey stood on a hill overlooking maz kanata’s palace, holonet device hanging loosely in her fingers. even now, as used to the diverse galaxy as she was, the beauty of takodana and it’s abundance of botanical life took her breath away. “what am i doing?” she asked herself, voice barely over a whisper.

“hey.” their fingers reached for hers instinctively, delicately wrapping around the muscles of her bicep for a brief moment. she’d always been a little touchy with those in the resistance –– it was so easy, most of the time. it was easy with rey, too. things had seemed to quickly fall apart with the apparent yuuzhan vong threat, whatever the kriff they were. the resistance didn’t know a thing about them and they were not willing to sit on their hands. but it was hardly the appropriate time or course of action to disappear without a trace and draw attention to herself. “do you have a minute? i’m sure you’re busy but it’s… important.” 

rey was anxious, mind racing with this new threat and what it could mean – not just for them, but for the galaxy. a threat that didn’t care about the empire, the first order, the resistance... it was something they didn’t know how to handle. it was new. and in a way she’d never experienced before, it was terrifying. so the sudden feeling of fee’s hand on her arm was a welcome relief – it made her feel grounded. unalone. she turned to say hello, but the greeting died on her lips at the look on fee’s face. silence spread between them when the other finished talking, and rey glanced away. “why do i feel like i’m not going to like what i hear?”

DAISY RIDLEY / / have you met REY yet? SHE is a 21 years old CIS WOMAN HUMAN, originally from JAKKU but typically reside on THE MILLENIUM FALCON. after everything they’ve gone through, they show loyalty to THE RESISTANCE. they are best known for being a JEDI AND RESISTANCE FIGHTER, and i hear they’re grown pretty PERSEVERANT yet also RECKLESS at times; i hope they survive the galactic war. 

THE PAST

rey’s earliest memory is on jakku, her parents long gone, replaced with the greedy unkar plutt. in the end she raised herself, surviving on wit, perseverance, and keen instincts. she survived in jakku as a scavenger, making a home out of an old fallen at-at located on the outskirts of the graveyard of ships. she kept her head down, never made a real effort to get off the planet, counting down the days since she was left there as she waited for the return of her parents that would never come.

instead what fell into her lap was a special little droid that brought with it trouble. before she knew it she was aiding finn, who she thought was a resistance fighter, and being pursued by the first order. they made their great escape aboard an old junker ship owned by unkar plutt, and rey discovered her prowess as a pilot. after narrowly escaping the first order’s tie-fighters, rey intended on returning to her home on jakku, but again, her life was interrupted.

when han solo and chewbacca boarded their escape ship, rey discovered that she had in fact stolen the millenium falcon, infamous for making the kessel run in twelve parsecs. han and rey developed a quick friendship and rapport, and as they worked together to make yet another narrow escape, rey began to see in him a mentor — a father figure that she’d never had before. she learned from han about the existence of the legendary luke skywalker and the truth behind the stories of the jedi.

even as they landed on another planet to meet with maz kanata, rey intended on returning back to jakku to wait for her long-dead parents, holding onto the single thread of hope she still had at a reunion. this thread was cut by a vision and a realization: there was nothing for her on jakku, and she was destined for something much greater. 

after being kidnapped by the first order, rey performed a jedi mind trick that surprised even her. she barely had the time to process what she’d done – she was reunited with han, finn, and chewie, her personal rescue party, and the four of them moved to make their escape from starkiller base. the escape was interrupted by kylo ren, leader of the first order and the son of han solo. the confrontation left han dead and rey in devastation. she faced down with kylo ren personally, and though she was unable to defeat him, she fought him off with shocking skill.

with the realization that there was more to her than she ever understood, and with the intent of aiding the resistance, rey sought out luke skywalker on the island of ahch-to. after failing to convince him to return to aid the resistance with her, she began training with him in the use of the force. her power was great, but she had little control over her emotions, often letting her strong feelings get the better of her. this trait made an easy path to the dark side, scaring both her and luke.

during this time, she developed a bond with kylo ren, who she now knew as ben solo. she felt understood by him, and instead of the antagonist she thought he was, she began to see someone in pain. she got it in her mind that she could save him, bring him back to the light, so joined him on the supremacy, where she was forced to face the first order’s supreme leader, snoke. after ben solo killed snoke, the two of them fought through the remaining guards, and rey believed they would return to the resistance as a team. instead ben chose a path she could not follow – leader of the first order still.

she returned to the resistance on crait, reunited with her friends, and aided them in the escape from the first order. though luke sacrificed his life to ensure their successful escape, she continued her jedi training with leia organa.

THE PRESENT

rey was pulled following the battle on crait. it’s been a year since then, and she’s been traveling and fighting with the resistance while being trained by her mentor, leia organa. she was pulled from her timeline during meditation.

rey awoke at the destruction of sernpidal, the intense disturbance in the force ripping her into this timeline. she has since reunited with many familiar to her, and met many others – and has taken the time to build her own lightsaber from her quarterstaff and really embrace herself as a jedi independent of any other. this change, however, has been distressing – she worries about her timeline, the fate of the world as it’s been left, and struggles to find her place in this new one.

PERSONALITY

rey has a strong personality; she’s hard-headed, often over-confident, and unafraid to speak her mind. though in the beginning she may come off as cold or untrusting, she is incredibly kind and has a caring nature; she did not often come across kindness in childhood, so when genuine kindness is extended to her, it’s not difficult for her to become fiercely loyal and protective.

in the battle between head and heart, rey thinks with her heart. she is driven powerfully by emotion, and has in fact found that her strength, her connection to the light, comes directly from her ability to feel. she has battled pain and anger and sadness from the time she was a child, alone on jakku, and has found a balance between them and love, kindness, and joy. though this can sometimes make her reckless, she believes it is an important part of living.
