REFLECTION:
Upon approaching this project I was quite hesitant and intimidated at the concept of creating something out of my comfort zone. The first thing that came into my mind when exploring a tacit taste was anything made by Nonna; it was as simple as selecting the dish for my video.  I picked the Panzerotti for my video as it is a dish that Nonna traditionally makes on special occasions, and I really wanted to capture an authentic Italian dish. However, upon creating and editing my video I realised, it wasn’t just about the beautiful dish that she was able to cook but also my Nonna’s personality.  When I asked Nonna “why do you think your Panzerotti are the best” she simply replied with, “because normal people can have.” She was so honest in her answer, believing that you don’t have to be rich, poor or know anything about cooking to appreciate the simplicity of her dish.   I believed I achieved every aesthetic aspect of my tacit taste, from the smells of the freshly grated parmesan, to the sounds of the Italian news channel playing in the background.  The camera angles and dialogue within my video are supposed to be from my perspective; I believe I achieved this in allowing my viewer to imagine as if they were beside Nonna, helping her cook.  I’m really happy with the quirkiness and relaxed feeling of the video. For me, it was all about immersing my viewer within my culture, celebrating my Nonna’s Italian heritage and her passion for cooking the recipes from her hometown.
The lectures were a great platform for inspiration and variety. Andy provided us with a great range of designers and projects to emphasis how broad the topic of food in design really is. They acted as a constant source of guidance and ideas to help us through the core classes.
The essentials classes and project helped me understand the importance of communication between the designer and client, as well as the business side of organising a project. The project was a great way to allow us to experience the planning for proposing, producing and managing for a project.

Food Culture Project
Drinking tea is a part of our life in my family, it is showing the moment when tea leaves are put in boiling water, from dry to wet, from fold to unfold, from compressed to blooming, from clear to colored… Now, this moment is frozen in these tea bags. The teaspoon is used as a handle here, the box is covered by a bamboo curtain splint, both of them are the representative of traditional tea culture in China.
I chose Chinese tea for my project topic, as tea has a long history in China, and my family is engaged in selling Chinese tea for many years so I get to know tea since I was young. We drink tea during many parts of the day such as at meals for good health or simply for pleasure. In other words, Chinese tea is meaningful for me and my family, Tea is very popular in China, particularly in the south of China.

FOOD Event
The FOOD event was such a great way to end the semester. I loved being able to see all the other students work, which showed just how far a brief can be stretched as everyones work was so unique and original.

Work in progress
I downloaded a sound effect from an website (freesound.org). I was particularly looking for warm and japanese style background music as my video theme and title (Miruku Ramen) is in japanese and I found this one called ‘good morning Tokyo’ - created by Mr.Milton.

After I imported the music into my premier pro file, I realized that the sound file is only 40 seconds long so I had to copy and paste to expand the sound file and also to make the gap between the two sound sources smooth, I cropped the end part of the first one.

Week 10 - More Prototypes
Today I played with a prototype containing artwork. I explored the idea of food photography and its over-produced and deceptive nature. My design shows off pretty photos and reveal underneath what the meal would look like without being altered. This gives the user a glimpse in to what their meal would actually look like when they create it.
