Hi, I'm jeje, HUGE sxf fan, it's all I yap abt lol I'm a minor This is a safe space for talking abt anything! Twitter: @Jeje_lovescats

Note
your bit on OHSHC is really oversensitive and its not really an analysis. relies way too much on 'misogyny' as a gotcha. but seeing as youre a minor from ur bio im not gonna say more abt that bc youve got room to grow and learn and get better at analysis. but yeah. theres much more 'problematic' things. and if youre going to watch a show from the 2000s youve got to take into account the time it was made--> you are going to be unable to enjoy anything from then if you get the ick that easily.
Thank you so much for your input! I do agree with you that, yes, I am a minor and I still have a lot to learn in writing, but I do have a few things to say, don't take it to heart. 1) I never said this was an analysis, it's a discussion, I did say it was one on my twitter accounts so pardon me for that. 2) It's not 'oversensitive' it's just genuine facts; this episode was problematic and there are a lot of emotional factors in this episode so forgive me for being 'over-sensitive' while writing about emotions 3) sexual harassment was a problem in the early 2000s and still is today. The episode was problematic at the time seeing as HUNDREDS of people did discuss this episode and most of the fanbase actually despise the episode when it was made at the time if you're going to talk about the early 2000s 4) my intention to "rely on misogyny as a gotcha" is unintended since guess what? The entire episode is extremely sexist! And you might say "well that's because it was released in the early 2000s" which is a valid point, but misogyny was a problem at the time. even if it wasn't I didn't write this in 2006 and applied the ethics from 2006, I'm writing this in a modern era, where sexism IS a problem and I'm writing based off of that. and I will restate this, people in the early 2000s had a problem with this episode at the time of release.
Again, please don't take anything I said to heart, it's just an opinion and I am open to more discussions. I do not mean to cause any offence by this, if you are offended, I do apologise.

Why I find episode 8 of Ouran Highschool Host Club to be the most problematic 24 minutes in anime history
Well, I didn't think I would be writing this but here I am.
Now in general, there are mentioned topics I would usually not discuss since they are quite sensitive topics to me and to many other people, but I'm honestly extremely disturbed by this episode and don't feel content staying quiet about it, even if it aired almost 19 years ago.
Trigger warning: This article will include topics about sexual harassment, rape and misogyny ; please click off if you are uncomfortable with any of these topics.
With that cleared up, let's dive into this.
Now, I have just recently started OHSHC after I saw it was regaining popularity on social media platforms. Although I was warned that the show would have offensive humor (which I generally don't mind) and poor LGBT representation, I still took my chances and decided to watch it. Initially, I was under the impression that it was merely a comedic show (even if comedy in question was offensive humor) and there wouldn't be any problems with it, boy was I wrong!
Now, I won't be discussing the other problems revolving around OHSHC, I will just be focusing today on episode 8 of the anime.
Episode 8 of Ouran Highschool Host Club, titled "The Sun, the Sea, and the Host Club!", starts off completely normally with the host club and guests taking a trip to a private beach owned by the Ootori family. The Hitachiin twins - Kaoru and Hikaru - decide to play a game with the other host members (Excluding Haruhi) to see who would figure out Haruhi's fear first, seeing that she was unfazed from things that would normally cause fear at the beach. The twins said that the person who would figure it out, would get images of Haruhi from middle school, which is a cause for concern seeing as the source of these images were undisclosed (I have a feeing it was probably Kyoya but that is not the main concern at the moment), and the entire situation itself is quite weird if I'm being frank.
The host club attempts to try and scare Haruhi in order to find out her fear, which was futile seeing as she was unfazed. Like honestly though, why? Haruhi's their friend and I get that they merely saw it as a joke and Haruhi wasn't even aware of this, but still.
Now this is where the REAL problems start to take light. Towards sunset in the episode, a group of thugs approach two female guests, who requested to join Haruhi and Honey-chan on a cliff at the beach in search for seashells, (the ones I mentioned earlier that tagged along with the rest of the host club) and attempted to sexually harass the two girls. Now, seeing as Haruhi is also a female, this brought out feelings of anger in her seeing something so cruel happening. And just like any normal and sane person, she decided to step in, in an effort to scare off the thugs seeing as they assumed she was a male. Although Haruhi was successful in getting the thugs to leave the two guests alone, this did cause her to get thrown off of the cliff into the ocean.
I apologise if the next part is not exactly how it occurred in the anime, it has been a while since I watched the episode. Both the Hitachiin twins and Tamaki were informed and rushed to the scene, and Tamaki jumped into the ocean to save Haruhi.
After Haruhi was saved, she was greeted by ridiculing from Tamaki, as well as the other host club members if I recall correctly, that she shouldn’t have interfered — because she’s a girl, and therefore 'incapable of protecting others when she can’t even protect herself' and that her actions were 'reckless' and that much worse could've happened if they didn't intervene. Now of course, I get that this was just the host club trying to show their concern for her, but this was a VERY unnecessary way to show it. Their entire discussion was EXTREMELY misogynistic, suggesting that 'women can't defend themselves and have no means to whatsoever'. Haruhi was NOT asked about how she felt on a situation that concerned her, the members were pressing on the matter that she shouldn't have jumped in to defend the two guests. Something that actually had my blood boiling was Tamaki's remark AND I QUOTE "what made you think you would stand a chance, you against two boys?" And when Haruhi tried to defend herself stating: "It doesn't matter that they're boys and I'm a girl, I was there. I had to do something. There wasn't any time-" and she was cut off by Tamaki stating "That's no excuse you idiot, don't forget you're a girl too." Umm well that was sexist as fuck. And the worst thing I found about this scene in particular was that after Tamaki and Haruhi finished arguing, he turned the situation on HER rather than the thugs (who were later brought to security if you're wondering). After she expressed that she doesn't think she did anything wrong (which she didn't by the way, she did the correct course of action, even if it was selfless and caused her harm) he told her "I'm not speaking to you until you can admit you were wrong". Honestly I do wish all this 'concern' was put more towards her physical and mental health. They could've asked if she was okay, if she was hurt, if the situation scared her or shook her, literally ANY normal question you would ask someone who got thrown off a cliff to save people from sexual harassment (although they did request medical help for Haruhi, this isn't my point) Their anger was directed towards Haruhi, which I find absolutely horrible.
I won't be talking about this part too much since it's quite debatable - lots of people have a lot of different opinions on this scene - but I would like to talk about the scene towards the end of the episode - which leaves absolutely no space for discussion.
Please click off now if you are uncomfortable with topics about rape and sexual harassment.
Towards the end of the episode, Haruhi gets ill from eating too much crab and goes to use the bathroom, which happened to be in Kyoya's room. After she's done she has a conversation with Kyoya in which he tells her that he had to gift the involved guests a bouquet of flowers each, in which Haruhi replies that she'd pay him back.
Kyoya informs her that the total cost of them was 600,000 yen, but at the same time, he was dimming the lights of the room. Haruhi asks why he dimmed them in which he replied "if you want to, you can pay me back with your body." And he forcefully grabs her hand, and pins her down to the bed. After he was on top of Haruhi, he says that "how are you so naive that you think a person's sex doesn't matter? You've left yourself completely defenseless against me" Now, sorry to be blunt, but this is essentially Kyoya telling Haruhi that he was going to rape her. Now we all know, he wouldn't do it, and he in fact didn't do it, even Haruhi knew that very well.
At first, my dumbass thought that this was an attempt for Kyoya to win the competition the twins had started at the beginning of the episode, but a while later I realised that he had nothing to win at all.
So he was trying to scare her, but not because of the competition, Kyoya was trying to scare her to get Haruhi to admit that she was wrong.
Even if it was 'just an act' there are a NUMBER of things Kyoya has absolutely NO right to do whatsoever.
1) there's something called "boundaries"
Everyone has their boundaries, what happened in that scene was a boundary that was crossed, not just for Haruhi, but for ANYONE put in that situation. I don't care if Haruhi was 'fine' with it, that's just fucked up ethics. Kyoya had absolutely NO right to do that at all. And the worst thing is, Kyoya did not see the error in his actions, which just means if he was faced in the same situation, he would repeat his actions.
2) He experimented on something he didn't know the outcome of
Let's say for the sake of this that Haruhi was a rape victim before the events of the episode took place. Now, not only would have this event brought out trauma within her, but it would've also created NEW trauma. Not only would Haruhi be unable to trust men anymore, but she would also lose all sense of confidence in herself. She wouldn't have stuck up for the two guests since 'women are unable to protect themselves' which, obviously unbeknownst to the host club members, would do her more harm than good. If Haruhi does actually get faced with a situation like this again, she would be expected to not do anything, since according to the host club's ethics "women can't protect themselves against men." Lovely. And if you think that's far-fetched, no problem! Let's suppose Haruhi ISN'T a rape victim. As we saw in the anime, she didn't look upset, she 'knew' that Kyoya wouldn't do anything to her because she 'knew' that he would have nothing to gain. Now in retrospect, Haruhi's call was correct, and he did in fact admit that he had nothing to gain. But what if Haruhi's call was merely a bluff? What if she was just saying that in hopes that Kyoya would actually back off? We were not provided with any inner monologue at the time of the episode, so we have no idea what was going on in Haruhi's mind, whether it was that she was scared, didn't realise the severity of the situation, unfazed, paralyzed, we don't know. '
So, it's pretty unfair to say that this scene was 'normal' just because 'she wasn't upset'. The human mind is a beautiful, bewildering but a complex and rather scary thing. Our mind tends to protect us from traumatic events, which I ASSUME (keyword: assume) in Haruhi's case is her brushing off the event. In the human mind, there are four physiological survival reactions to perceived threats, which are: Fight, Flight, Freeze and Fawn, or the 4 F's for short. I think that the option Haruhi opted for was fawn - immediately trying to please to avoid conflict - she wasn't exactly trying please Kyoya, but rather redirect the situation to avoid any conflict, hence her reply in which she states that she knows he won't do anything to her as he has nothing to gain. Even though my hypothesis isn't exactly the definition of fawn in the four F's, the human mind is a spectrum, so there's no set definition for anything no matter how you look at it. Again, this is merely an opinion.
3) just the pure misogyny in this scene
The entire scene wouldn't have even occurred If Kyoya - who's ironically the 'smart' one - had any ethics or simply respected that women are ALSO capable of protecting themselves. Trying to scare your friend by threatening to rape her is not a way to 'express your concern' or 'try to get her to admit she was wrong'. Because let's be real, no one in the club believes that women are able to protect themselves without the interference of men. Even if Kyoya was just trying to scare her and wasn't actually going to rape her, that is still considered sexual harassment.
The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE for short) explicitly states the following :
" Sexual harassment is any unwanted comment, gesture, or action that is sexual in nature (aside from unwanted touching of sexual body parts, which is sexual assault), that makes someone feel afraid, embarrassed, uncomfortable or ashamed. The intention of the person doing the action doesn’t matter, it’s the negative impact the action has that makes something sexual harassment. " Which is essentially a nutshell of what Kyoya did.
The SACE also states:
" Sexual harassment can include:
- Cornering, standing too close, blocking doorways
- Unwanted discussion of sexual topics
- Pressing for sexual activity, including sexual touching of non-sexual body parts
- Touching of non-sexual body parts (e.g. unwanted: massage, handholding, light grazing touches etc.)"
Wow, doesn't that ring a bell?
So even if Haruhi was not upset by this unfortunate occurrence, it doesn't make it right. What Kyoya did was wrong. What the entire host club thought about women is wrong. This entire episode is wrong.
People are a spectrum, some people may be fine with distressing events, some people may not be fine with them (which is well within their rights by the way). Some people think the right is wrong, and the wrong is right. Some people do not realise the severity of their actions, others have to deal with it.
And that is why, Ladies and Gentlemen, I strongly believe that episode 8 of Ouran Highschool Host Club is the most problematic 24 minutes in anime history. I would love to discuss any opinions you guys may have!
And this is your Host signing off, live long and prosper!

My analysis on Spy X Family chapter 111
well uhm today's chapter was something initially I though the chapter was too short to write about, but we did get valuable information, and writing isn't only about the present, it's also about the past and future so I've been thinking about this for a few hours and here's what I've found. First point I'd like to make was way back in chapter 1, we got a very brief introduction about Anya, it was stated that she was an unintentional consequence of research experiments and that she had later escaped the facility.

Now since the chapter was quite short, many statements I make can be far-fetched. Alright now, when they said, "unintentional consequence of research experiments" they could've simply meant that the woman (who Anya refers to as "mama") could have just gotten pregnant and called that "unintentional consequence" and when stated "research experiments" they could have simply meant her mother. Now I said "the woman who Anya refers to as "mama"," because she could still be a woman who Anya has grown fond of and called 'mama', this is quite unlikely and I believe that she is her biological mother, still just a thought Now we ask ourselves, in chapter 111, was that a lab? my answer: yes, I do quite think so why? if you look closely, on the back of both Anya and her (probably) biological mother, there are strings holding the dress from behind like a lot of hospital clothing..

And one panel that really stood out to me was this one. Some people theorized previously that if Anya were to have a biological parent, they'd be the reason of her being held captive in the lab. This has been debunked after today's chapter. It seems that Anya's biological mother wanted freedom just as much Anya did, she's a victim in this too. Another point I'd like to make is that Anya's mother probably helped free Anya (as stated in chapter one, all it said was that she escaped, doesn't mean no one helped her) since she knew she couldn't escape herself. The symbolism is symbolizing 🙂↕️

Now this is where we ask ourselves, where is Anya's mom? my answer: Probably dead. Why else would she have cried on the interview day? She appeared to be very close to her mother in today's chapter and it would explain her tears. She could also just be trapped in the lab, but I find the first explanation more logical, even though they're both a possibility, that's just my opinion.

Something else, are Anya's powers inherited? probably, they could have messed up with the mother's DNA and passed it on to Anya, and they experimented further on Anya to further develop her powers Last thing, the hair. we saw in chapter 1 that Anya had her hair in buns, as well as today with her mother, and present Anya always has those cone shaped hairpieces on her hair, we've never seen her without them. why? no idea I've gathered a bunch of theories that are plausible 1) they have some type/form of horns hidden underneath their buns 2) scars now the scars would make sense for 2 reasons 1) Donovan, who's probably a mind reader (though we can't verify Melinda as an accurate source) has scars on his head as well, now even though the placement isn't the same, they're still scars. 2) They want to convince their selves they're normal people
hear me out. A woman and her daughter are both trapped in a lab, being experimented on, they have scars, won't hiding them give them some sense of normalcy?

And also, the fact that Anya asked Yor if she could read her mind, the poor kid is looking for anything that might remind her of her mother, in the chapter, her face wasn't shown, just like Loid's flashback. I also noticed while Anya was dreaming that she held bond quite tightly, I think that's because she was trying to hold out to her mother.

well, I did NOT expect to write this much given the length of the chapter😂 can you tell that this was VERY rushed? Since loid did mention that she was sleeping before her bedtime, that probably means that when Anya sleeps again, she'll dream of her mother once again. well, that's me rambling! hope you enjoyed! please feel free to share your thoughts or any more thoughts you might have! okay but isn't baby Anya just adorable? SEE Y'ALL IN 2 WEEKS<333

My analysis on spy x family chapter 110
well, this was certainly one heck of a chapter
I have LOADS to yap about so get ready
As stated in my previous analysis, that Melinda was most probably a victim of abuse, I stated that it was VERY likely to be canon, around 90% or so, after this chapter, the likelihood drops to 20% but we still have psychological abuse to keep in mind. (This does NOT mean that Donovan doesn't physically abuse her)
Now let's recap on what we said last chapter (pulls out last analysis bc I genuinely don't remember anything)
Of course, we still don't know why she has some sort of hatred towards her husband, it's pretty much been debunked that Donovan physically abuses her BUT psychological abuse is still an option on the table. She could also feel that her privacy is being invaded. It's also very likely that her hatred towards him started right after she mentioned him "becoming a completely different man" that I assume is when he got his telepathy.
Now this is one of the MOST important things I would like to discuss today which, once again, is Melinda's relationship with her family, in the last analysis, it was stated that Melinda has a VERY complex relationship towards Damian, in which she calls him "my treasure, my curse" which creates a paradox since, how can Damian be a treasure AND a curse at the same time? which leads us to think, 'well, of course Damian's her treasure, he's her son. but why does she call him her curse?'
Didn't Melinda say that he became a different man when Damian was born?
what if..
Melinda blames Damian for the change in Donovan?
What if she thinks that the reason Donovan suddenly changed, is because of her son's birth? she said it herself "shortly after my first child was born, or was it the second?"
As I said previously, I still do believe that Donovan and Melinda were previously in love, we can see how he used to treat Demetirus.
and also, it would make more sense, she doesn't want to believe someone she loved so much became someone so distant.
So that leads us to ask, if Donovan REALLY DID become a telepath, why is he so distant? I don't have an answer for that I'm sorry.
Something else I wanted to speak about is Melinda's reaction when Loid asked her if Donovan harmed her, that is a HUGE cause for concern, I lowkey cried for the poor woman. At first glance, I thought that she was lying, since sudden and insisting outbursts are a sign that someone is lying, but if you dig deeper, this might just show the extent of how much Melinda really does love Donovan, she's putting her mental and physical health on the line for him. she's scared for her husband and she's throwing any explanation, even if it's far fetched, just to justify her husband's actions. That's what love does to someone. She is suffering.
She feels trapped in her relationship with Donovan, she wants to protect both Damian and Demitrus when she can hardly protect herself. She thinks her current status with Donovan is a facade since, according to her, he's an alien. So all she can do, in an attempt to manage her life, is just go with it. whatever her husband decides to do, she falls victim to. (this proves the psychological manipulation/neglect)
The second most important thing I wanted to talk about is the fact that it's technically confirmed that Donovan can read minds, so ummm, chat. Loid is COOKED. My guy just HAD to spill ALL his plan ideas in his mind when they decided to meet. you can tell Donovan was PISSED.
but seriously though, apart from the fact that loid is screwed, what does this mean for Anya? I'm sure she does NOT want to meet the 'evil super boss anymore' in order to preserve her secret. I do wonder though, were their powers made in the same lab? (People theorize its project apple and I'm one of them) that would make a lot of sense since Melinda said that Donovan started acting differently after damiana was born, which was also around the time Anya was born. Maybe that's the time they BOTH got their powers.
conclusion: Melinda REALLY needs a new therapist bc her therapist is essentially screwed.
See you in 2 weeks guys!!

I was extremely hesitant to publish this since I didn't know how most of the audience reading this would take it but after a lot of thought I finally decided to publish this.
This was a poem I wrote last year for a poetry competition speaking up about the genocide that's happening in many countries, it also speaks up about what many parts of the world have come to. I didn't want to edit it since my opinion still stands. It's not very well written since I wasn't much of a poet at the time but the message is still there, even now that I have much more experience with writing, I don't have the heart to modify it.

My (probably inaccurate) analysis on Spy x Family chapter 109

From what we currently know, Melinda clearly has some kind of hatred towards her husband, now we can say this is because of a potential mental illness (or physical damage that led to a mental illness) OR the (probable) abuse taking place, physical/psychological.
Now, we don't have a proper backstory on Melinda to say that there was any physical damage that took place, especially something so severe to the point it caused her a mental illness. The likelihood of abuse taking place is much more likely since we DO know that she has visited the psychiatry department in some point in the past, somewhere around when the war took place. Now, off the top of my head, there are a number of reasons why she could have visited, first being the pressure and stress of being a first lady, especially in the war period, or is it because she reached a point where she wasn't able to handle her emotions BECAUSE of the abuse?
I would like to focus on the latter since I find it much more probable. Now I did say earlier that physical damage could cause mental illnesses, the phrase "physical damage" doesn't exclude abuse. Maybe the abuse reached a point where it caused her mental distress.
Now I would like to discuss Melinda's relationship with her family, starting off with her children (this will be more focused with Melinda's relationship with Damian since we don't know what she thinks of Demetirus yet)
Now Melinda's relationship with her family is uhhh, complex to say the least. In the bus hijacking arc, Melinda refers to her son as "my treasure" while simultaneously referring to him as "my curse". Now what we can note is that everything was fine up until Damian asked her not to tell his father that he cried, that's when her thoughts started to go haywire.

Now at this point we ask ourselves, "Why are Melinda's thoughts towards Damian like this?" in my opinion its either because he's Donovan's child (which explains why she refers to him as a curse) or that she's afraid he'll be just like his father?
Now the answer to both of these questions crawl back to Donovan. Now we also need to ask ourselves "Where did Donovan and Melinda's relationship stand before they got married?" If it was an arranged marriage, the (probable) abuse would make more sense but if they were originally in love, that's a WHOLE other story. if so we would need to ask
-"what happened to turn their relationship into this?"
-"why did Donovan start treating his wife that way?"
I honestly really do believe that they were originally in love hence Melinda's mind trying to look for any reason why her husband turned into something that brought her so much distress (ergo the "My husband is an alien)
It would make more sense if they were previously in love
Or at least, Melinda was tricked into thinking he loved her
If so, then he had to have an ulterior motive maybe he took advantage of the fact he knew she cared about him?
If Melinda cared so much about a man to the point of risking her mental and (potentially) physical health, then there has to be some kind of history on why she fell in love with Donovan in the first place, why she (probably) never questioned his (probable) abuse , blaming it on the fact that "My husband is an alien" it's like she doesn't want to believe that her husband (a man she loved) would abuse her, although I would really love to know what Melinda thinks of Demetrius, I'd assume something similar what she thinks of Damian.
"Why can't they divorce or why can't she report him?" Well there are a number of possibilities including the fact that if she loves him, she wouldn't want to divorce him and it is evident that she loves him so much to the point she never questioned his abuse hence the "My husband is an alien" since she doesn't want to believe that a person she loved so much would hurt her (again, Donovan abusing her is NOT confirmed yet I'm just saying what I think if it were true) OR she doesn't want to tarnish her reputation because even if she did report him, he could make up a lie for people not to believe her "would you really believe a woman who's convinced her husband is an alien?" since he does have more power over her. That being said, people are more likely to believe Donovan since they only see Melinda as "the former first lady" not a mother nor a wife. As well as the fact that when she reports him with no success, the abuse will most likely get worse.
And I also noticed in her list of symptoms that she had insomnia, is it caused by the fact she thinks husband is an alien? That her mind is trying to block out the fact that her husband is abusive? There's just so many possibilities! I can't wait to see what endo has in store for us!
conclusion: Melinda has a crappy husband and needs a better one bc that's what she deserves and also get her a better therapist this woman is mentally ill you don't wanna make it worse by getting her an unlicensed and inexperienced fake therapist 😭😭
