COVID-19 and Type 1 Diabetes
I’ve just been reading about COVID-19 and the affect it has on someone suffering with type one diabetes
-
In my mind I thought that because my blood sugar is under control, even if I was to catch COVID-19, it would have no difference to me compared to the general population. It appears that I was wrong
-
I was reluctant to read up too much about this initially. Denial being the driving force. Not wanting to think that I am more at risk, due to the life long nuisance that I have. Despite loved ones and friends trying to explain to me
-
If I was to except this it felt like T1D had won another battle of this lifelong war
-
Reading about it and realising that actually I am more at risk of having a severe reaction was a slap in the face and a friendly reminder that I do have a chronic illness
-
I am very good at staying positive and because my good days do out weigh the bad, days like this make the bad days even harder to digest
-
I give myself 5 minutes to feel how I want to feel and then remind me that it’s okay to not be okay. You sometimes have to ride the wave and these feelings of negativity will all blow over
-
TIP: It is okay to have these feelings. You just need to be able to control them and not allow them to persist. A walk helps me a lot. Talking to someone that understands can also be of great help
-
Side note: This might be one victory to diabetes. Remember that you are and will beat it during many other battles you will have during your life.
-
Stay safe ❤️
