Hurricanes and Weddings!
Hello sweet friends! It is hurricane season!  It’s also wedding season!  I am totally biased, but autumn is my very favorite season as well as time to get married.  But like I said, I’m so biased!  If you don’t know much about me, two years ago I got engaged in October and then last year I got married in October.  So October and autumn are my favorite time of year!
But with this time of year,…

Katy and Jereme - All Saints Chapel
Katy and Jereme – All Saints Chapel
Hi sweet friends!  Katy and Jereme chose the beautiful All Saints Chapel to hold their wedding.  Talk about a bride who was all smiles,  Katy was so much fun to work with!  I have to say, her high bun was so fitting.  It’s not everyday a bride asking for a high bun, but once I got to know her, the fun spirited, bubbly vibe of a high bun matched her happy personality.  We hope you enjoy these fun…

Hello sweet friends!  Today I wanted to share with you our bridal party we got to work with this past weekend!  We got to see the inside of one of the beautiful houses in Pinehurst, as the family rented one to stay in, and boy were we wow’d!  Our bride, Stephanie,  stole the show though.  Her radiant beauty was on display as we went through the day.  She opted for a soft, natural makeup look and…

Choosing your vendors for your big day can be a daunting task.  There are so many things on your check list when first starting out, it’s hard to know where to begin.  We are loving this timeline that Wedding Wire has come out with to help manage when different vendors should be found and booked.
Tumblr media
When it comes to hair and makeup, the earlier the better. Thus, why we love this time line.  Twelve months or more gives you time to not only find the hair and makeup artists that fit your style and needs perfectly, but allows you to get in for a trial very early on so you can check off your list what you want your look to be for your big day!
We here at Makeup for Your Day, love traveling world wide to get brides ready.  We’ve seen some pretty spectacular venues out there and look forward to seeing more breathtaking places for gorgeous ceremonies and receptions.  For you newly engaged couples out there, be sure and check out this list to explore beautiful wedding venues in the Raleigh area as well as all over the world!

Hello sweet friends!  A couple years ago I went to a hair show that introduced me to the amazing world of Halo Couture hair extensions!  These little beauties change everything about the world of clip in extensions and I quickly became obsessed with mine.  I always talked about wanting “mermaid” hair for my wedding, that long flowing hair that comes over the “girls”.  There’s just something about that length of hair that always made me feel so girly.  I was 3 weeks away from getting engaged when I went to this hair show and my hair was no where near mermaid length!  But miraculously I went home with one!
Here is my hair just regularly styled without my halo…
Tumblr media
And here is a style with my halo, not too long after this first photo!
Tumblr media
The reason I love the halo is that its just one weft of hair that has so much hair on it!  It goes over your hair with a clear wire feature in which you pull your hair over and you are finished!  And so I leave you, with the beautiful mermaid hair I had for my wedding thanks to my halo.  And now that it has made an appearance on my big day, I’m even more attached!

Lindsay and Hal said I do with a touch of sophistication and lot of romance. With the timeless The Umstead as the setting, it wasn’t hard to immediately fall in love with the  wedding day. We loved Lindsay’s big romantic curls and elegant gown. The touch of silver in the bridesmaids dresses and white flowers gave their wedding the perfect amount of sophistication. Did we…

Did Somebody Say Pool Party?!

Hey MYD Beauties!
I don’t know about you, but I am SO ready for pool parties, the beach, & laying out getting that nice summer tan!
First off, I want to start by saying obviously you don’t have to wear makeup to the pool or beach. If you’re comfortable not wearing any that’s awesome! Let your skin breathe! However, I personally just feel a little more comfortable with a little something on.…

One of the best things about getting past the wedding is getting to go on your honeymoon!
We chose to go to Asheville, NC.  We are those mushy people that like to be able to go back to important places and we knew our honeymoon spot would be a huge important place to us, so we wanted it to still be reasonably close.  Plus, in October, the mountains of NC just come alive.  We got married on a Friday, so we were able to have our cabin from Saturday to Saturday which worked out great for my husbands work schedule.  It was a week of a happiness I had never experienced before.  We were exploring a city I’d only seen once because of work and he had never seen.  We were eating food that was simply amazing.  And we were realizing over and over again it was official, we were husband and wife!  The amount of times we said “you’re my husband” and “you’re my wife” was enough to make anyone roll their eyes over so much mush.  But we were so happy just to be there and together.
Once the honeymoon was over,  reality sat in and work became something we had to go back to.  Anthony is a phys ed teacher at an elementary school, so his schedule is much more “everyday” than mine.  Working weddings and doing hair isn’t your normal 9 to 5, I work a ton of weekends.  So we had to get used to not seeing each other every single moment like we had on the honeymoon.  But getting to be together each evening was what made the work day worthwhile.
I slowly started to miss wedding planning though.  I don’t think it was even the act of planning or the details.  The biggest thing I missed was doing those things because of the fact I was getting to marry the man I fell so in love with.  I’ve always been this extremely emotional person, so this life event meant so much to me because it’s such an emotional high.  A wedding only last a few hours, a marriage lasts a lifetime.  The wedding is what gets us to that life long commitment, and planning for that is what I missed.  But, the best thing about getting married during a hurricane is everyone empathizes for you and wants to make sure you are happy.

And I have to give huge kudos to our friend and photographer Emily Moore as well as our venue Summerfield Farms, for getting together with us to get back on the farm and take some beautiful photos on a sunshiny day.  I think it’s what I needed to get me out of those post wedding planning blues.  I got to put back on my dress.  Anthony got to dress up again and wear the boutonniere that everyone forgot to wear the day of.  We got to just be us, on the farm where we married.  It was so much fun and I’m so glad we got to do it.
Marriage is so much fun.  I thought that dating Anthony and getting engaged to him was fun, being with him everyday and knowing even more about this beautiful soul that I love is even more fun than all the other stuff we enjoyed.  So  have tons of fun planning your wedding.  Do it your way and don’t let anyone rain on your parade. And if real rain happens to come that day, embrace it, everything happens for a reason.  We certainly love rain more now because of it.  But know that after all is said and done with your wedding, your marriage is the next step in life that is going to be the most fun you have ever had.  The journey is the destination for which you never arrive.  So take a step back and enjoy your journey!
Thank you so much for letting me share my story with you! We’d love if you shared your wedding experiences with us!
XoXo
Megan

Hello MYDBeauties!
I was totally inspired to do something green in celebration of the upcoming holiday. This smokey emerald green look is perfect for a night out. This look works well on people with deep brown eyes, but feel free to get creative! I prepped my skin with Dermalogica active moist moisturizer & Laura Mercier oil free primer before using MAC studio fix foundation set with La Mer translucent powder.
For the eyes I prepped with MAC Soft Ochre painpot. In the crease I used a combination of MAC Soft Brown, Haux and Sable. All over the lid I used MAC Bottle Green, and placed Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow in Mermaid on the center of the lid. I then tightlined my eyes with Makeup Forever waterproof black eyeliner and used a good coat of IT cosmetics superhero mascara on the lashes.
I used Nars Deepthroat on as my blush, Makeup Forever pro-bronze fusion to warm things up and Becca Champagne pop to highlight. For lips I used MAC boldly bare & MAC Modesty.
Let me know if this look inspired you for your holiday festivities! Until next time!
XoXo,
Dee

This is a blog post series, be sure to read Part 1 & Part 2!
Remember that feeling every year, the night before the first day of school?  How there’s excitement of something new and sleeping is hard because you’re excited to see your friends and see what that new year will bring?  Take that feeling and multiply it by maybe 1000.  There were so many nerves and excitement going on that my maid of honor and one of my bridesmaids stayed in the room with me the night before and we were still awake at midnight so we had a countdown to the wedding day, just like New Years Eve.  Right after our mini celebration, we turned out the lights and I tried hard to get to sleep.  It felt like it took forever!  At that point I wasn’t even thinking about the actual wedding.  All I could dream about was my groom standing at the end of the aisle and getting to him.  I eventually did get to sleep. Dreaming all night of rain and rivers and water.  Ironic after what I woke to the next morning.
Just as the light started brightening my room, my eyes popped open and there was no way I was getting back to sleep.  I heard a drizzling of rain and got up to go look out the window.  I was staying in the bungalow on the farm, and right across the way from where I stood was our tree.  That tree that we fell in love with our first visit to the farm.  And all around it was rain and clouds.  Not a hard rain either.  Just that annoying drizzle of a rain that if it would just lighten a little you could go outside, but it’s too much when it’s happening.  We had to make the call for the wedding to be outside by the tree or inside the barn by 9 am.  We all looked at our phones on multiple radars only to see on each one, Hurricane Matthew’s first strand of storms easing further and further into North Carolina.  For a moment I got off to myself and just let it all out with a really good cry.  What else can you do?  The most important thing about that day was not that tree I loved so much.  But walking away as the wife of the man at the end of the aisle, that I love so dearly.  So I gathered myself together and faced the day head on.
Between my parents getting us a sapling and our officiant being amazing and changing up our ceremony, we still incorporated the tree theme.  I worked all morning on setting up our decor in the barn and trying to rework everything now that it was all in one space rather than two separate places.  Then finally came the time where my maid of honor found me and said “Ok Megan, it’s time for you to shower and then get hair and makeup done”.  Those butterflies that sometimes overwhelm you, took over.  This was completely abnormal for me because I’m always the one doing hair.  But, once I sat down in the chair, it really started all sinking in.
Photo Courtesy of Emily Moore Boutique Photo Editing
To all my past brides, I know now what was going through your mind.  And to all my future brides, know that those moments you are getting your hair and makeup done are the moments it truly starts feeling real.  All other parts of the day it’s like this fog.  “I’m getting married later today?” but you don’t fully feel it yet.  You sit down in that chair and suddenly it changes to “I’m getting married in a couple hours!!!”  The surreal feeling that everything you’ve spent the past year on, is about to all happen hits and the amount of emotions going on in your mind is huge.  For me, I became really quiet and everything was all in my head.  It was more calming that way, especially since the day wasn’t going according to plan.  It helped to tune out everything and get into the realization that everything I had done for the past year was about to happen.
Photo Courtesy of Emily Moore Boutique Photo Editing
We chose not to have a first look.  Every couple is different and for some a first look is so special.  For us, we wanted to savor every moment of walking down the aisle and him seeing me the first time that day at that time.  My favorite part of a wedding has always been the groom’s reaction.  You can tell everything about the relationship when you look at how sweet he looks staring at his bride.  But wow, did my groom have a special reaction.  We all know our guys and if they are more aps to showing their emotions or holding them in and savoring them for alone time.  My groom cried the entire ceremony!  And it was the sweetest thing that I had ever experienced.
Photos Courtesy of Emily Moore Boutique Photo Editing
It made all those emotions I felt all day just melt away and the joy of being there with him in a barn with a hurricane blowing through was everything.  We had so many people not show up.  There was maybe fifty people max.  But after all the things that didn’t go the way we envisioned it, we couldn’t get upset at the fact we didn’t have many guests. Once everything was over, we got in his car and drove away in a state of sheer bliss realizing we were officially husband and wife.  It’s this euphoric feeling that you spent so much time planning such a huge life event and the purpose of the event is finally official and life has completely changed.  My best advice for the day of your wedding?  Savor every precious moment and don’t feel like everything has to go EXACTLY as is was planned.  Sometimes things happen that make it look like it may not be for the best, but it turns out to be the very best thing you could have hoped for!
I will be back next week to talk all about how life is after being married!
Officiant: Perry Hardison// Venue: Summerfield Farms
