Absolution: Chapter 4

So excited to drop this chapter for you guys! I’m so stoked for everything ahead, and writing the Duke was a hell of a lot of fun. As for the next chapter, I’m currently still planning to upload on 08/06, but I will be in the middle of a move, so it may be delayed! I’ll post any updates if I need to push it back.

 her words hold a heavy weight to them. deeply moving even if he physically remained rooted. he knows many defeats, and in some cases, just as many victories, if not more. yet in those soft words when she grants him the greatest triumph he’s fought for with more than just brawn and blood, he’s initially at a loss for words. he’s used to the desolation of rejection, accustomed to things going against his favor, but when she grants him her presence, even if testy in the trials that will soon swarm them, the man thinks he’s finally won at life of all things.

the realization is a slow simmer that quickly boils over into many things, relief, doubt, joy, concern, but above all - love. he professes it to her without words, large fingers cradling her wrists as his palms hold her hands, gently reigning her closer to him. the press of lips lift from her forehead, slotting against a plush mouth in the softest and sweetest of kisses they’ve shared. it’s gentler than the careful, tentative pecks after the many times they fell into bed as strangers with benefits in the beginning, where questioning the morality  behind it before the exchanges bloomed with such ferocity and soon their lip locks were fueled by more than just lust.

     At the mention of sleep, she nods. They will need it; starting tomorrow, she suspects, there      will be a manhunt. She’s too powerful an asset to just go missing and no one bat an eye at it.      But there is a large part of her that doesn’t want this moment to end -- this quiet, happy      moment, where danger can only lurk but not pounce. Where his arms are around her middle,      her hands are in his hair. Where there is only the two them.
