Suggesting that Anakin’s love for Padmé was “conditional” doesn’t fit right when you know he continues to love her just as intensely and feel extreme guilt and remorse over what HE did to her for the entirety of his life.
So one day when I was just zoning out, I thought of a little AU that involved Vader taking care of a little orphaned Luke.
So the Au starts with Uncle Owen and Aunt Beau being killed by a crazed group of Tusken raiders, who kidnap a young Luke and bring him back to their camp. Obi-Wan only finds this out when Luke unitnetally sends out a distress call through the force, however Obi-Wan can’t get to him as a horrid sand storm rages through the area.
Lucky for Luke his call is answered by another force user, Darth Vader. The Sith lord happened to be traversing the space near Tatooine and felt the frantic call. Curious and startled, Vader follows the it and finds a young Luke, beaten from torture and near death by the hands of the raiders.
Without thought Vader ruthlessly kills them, plagued by the memories of his mother as he picks up the small child and whisks him away in his ship. As he is treated and healed, Luke worms his way into Vader’s cold heart, bringing back bits of Anakin, especially his protectiveness over his loved ones.
So then proceeds a story of young Luke being raised by a group of protective stormtroopers and Vader, flying around the galaxy as they avoid Palpatine, the Rebellion, and Obi-Wan.
