My Patrons (plus my daughter) supplied me with six Stormlight Archive characters to draw, and I loved the selection! Particularly Maya. Painted with a mix of gouache (Evi, Taravangian, Nale) and watercolour (Rua, Maya) and some more opaque watercolours for Lift.

This is my first traditional watercolour since 2021! Over four years of my eyes precluding detail work; my eyes are still rubbish, but my brain has caught up and allows me to look past the blind spots. Yay for brain!

Watercolour on Bockingford paper, just under A4 size. Original is sold! =)

Fun fact: I sketched this while in a conference. So I sat in a conference, drawing Shallan drawing in a conference. In other words, I did Ketek performance art. 😂

And we know whom she was drawing, right?

More fun facts: my iPad has gone full-on Stormlight nerd on me, autocorrecting ketek to Kelek.

"He actually smiled." Kaladin's last sight of Tien. Gouache-a-day, 8 May. I'm really getting the hang of this. It's amazing how much you learn if you (a) put in the work, and (b) go with what you want to paint instead of what you think might be an easy subject to learn (but actually can’t be bothered with).

I'm using HIMI gouache and I love the way it feels. Totally unlike watercolour, but really soft and buttery. It’s so much fun to paint skin with this.

Agonyspren

Missing scene: Hesina, heavily pregnant with her third child, gets a letter from the army that Kaladin was dead, four years after he wrote to them saying his brother was dead. (She tells him later they got this letter just after he was made a slave, either to spare them the shame, or to discourage any inquiries into his fate).

Day six of painting something in gouache every day through May. I find again that studies and practice aren’t for me. I need to go all-in, do a full illustration, make all the mistakes, and learn that way.

Also, my gouache process basically looks like this:

Bridger of Minds

Painting Rlain in gouache! I‘m teaching myself gouache (again). Imagine not being able to draw traditionally for years, and when your eyes and brain have finally adjusted to the reduced eyesight, what do you do? Come back to watercolour, your long-lost lover? Naaah, you go for that stubborn b**** who has refused you several times before and go courting her. 😅

This one worked great because I went with a watercolour underpainting, which allowed me to use the gouache in a sort of hybrid way.

Do you know if there's any chance that some of your out of stock Silm pins might be back in your Etsy shop one day?

There are a few that might be back if I still have a few copies (I need to take stock). Apart from that, I don’t plan to restock enamel pins anymore. It’s possible some will come back as wooden pins at some point (like Fëanor no), but the environmental impact is so big for enamel pins that I no longer want to make new ones.

I just wanted to say that I started reading the Stormlight Archives for the first time at the recommendation from a friend and you have THE MOST BEAUTIFUL artwork I have seen from it (and I've been on Pinterest a lot recently looking at Stormlight fanart).

Sorry this wasn't a question. I just wanted to tell you I'm gushing over every piece from you!

Aw, thank you so much! The series has really drawn me in with everything I have, and when anything does that, art needs to happen. I did expect to like it, after my daughter had been telling me so for months, but didn't expect the impact it would have on me. ^^ I‘m glad you like the art!

Looks like Shallan got her hands on some (digital) gouache. 🤭😶‍🌫️ Colouring my Kaladin sketch from a few weeks ago (the page from Shallan's sketchbook that she didn't want Adolin to see), to try out some more opaque-medium painting. And well, some anatomy practice is always a good idea. XD Aaaand a whole new load of prints has arrived in my shop! Go check them out!

I finally decided to give my old art a new and permanent home on my Patreon, after erasing one art gallery of mine after another (deviantArt, Facebook, Twitter, my Wordpress site) for a multitude of reasons most artists will be familiar with (bots, spam, hate, AI scraping).

Redrawing this. It was the second ever Stormlight scene I drew, from one listening on the audiobook, and I didn't much like it even before I got the kindle version and realised how far off my depiction was. So now, have a sufficiently wet and miserable Kaladin. And a very cute Syl.

When all of Bridge Four crowds around Kaladin in the triage tent after his return from the chasms at the end of Words of Radiance, part of it was surely joy at seeing him alive. But let’s not kid ourselves, part of it was them crowding around to bring their sphere pouches into reach, as their boy is out CLEARLY out of stormlight and that's why he's in such a sorry state and come on, we know you can’t just heal up all that without causing suspicion, but surely you can suck up a clearmark or two just to take the edge off it…
