Progress shot of a current work in progress. It's interesting being old enough to have my own personal "art history". I've been incorporating processes I haven't used in well over a decade (maybe almost two 馃槺) #oilpainting #artist #realism #religiousart #ldsart #annunciation #mary #motherofjesus #wip #instaart #instagood (at Houston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/B6B5rNPhp4u/?igshid=e9j4odc00wgn

Here is a before and after of this hand that's been giving me trouble. I like the new posture, but it is still too masculine and the values are still too dark. Moving in the right direction though. What do you see that should change? . . . . #artist #oilpainting #figurepainting #artcritique #dailypic #wip #spiritualart #christianart #instaart #artistsoninstagram #artbuyers #inspiration (at Katy, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/jeremiahmooreartist/p/ButoiLqHwLi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=eabap5nat5n8

Studies and more studies
Lately, a lot of the work I am producing is just practice for more involved work. Still lifes. Small portraits. Just studies. They are fun and I try to make them challenging. Some are actually quite compelling. Not necessarily something I could stare at for hours on end, but still nice. I do make them available for sale on through my website as originals and prints for those who are interested. Link is in my bio.

Forgotten then Remembered
Earlier this year I attended my grandfather's funeral. Although it can be tough to have people who are close to you pass on, this occasion was easier than seeing him in a nursing home in pain. Most of his affairs were already in order except for a few personal items that he had in his room. I was surprised to hear that among his police regalia and George Jones albums was an engraving I did back in San Diego. The surprise was two fold. First, I had nearly forgot all about ever making it, and second, I didn't expect it to be among the last few items he kept until the end. The life of an artist is the life of constant creation and collection. And although the goal is frequently to share my best work, not much actually fits in that category. Some pieces are really just studies and practice. Others, well, I don't think everything I create is worthy of showing the public. And if I can't seem to place much value on it, can I expect others to? This engraving is nothing spectacular, at least not in my eyes. I like it well enough and, randomly, it actually made me smile to think that I still might have the copper plates. It reminded me of Michelle Burgess, my printmaking professor at SDSU. Good memories. But what made a bigger impression on me was that this simple, small piece of art was significant to someone else. Yeah, sure, he's my grandpa, what should I expect? Right? Even still, I now feel more confident in sharing more of everything I create, particularly if it could bring some joy to someone else. Thanks for the boost Grandpa.

Old Becomes New
In the moment of inspiration, there seems to be no stopping the forthcoming creation. Until the next idea happens so quickly that any thought pertaining to the previous idea is gently set aside, (ONLY MOMENTARILY, I silently reassure myself) and ultimately becomes the past. Lost? no. Forgotten? for a time. Fortunately, the really good ideas have a way of reincarnating. They want to be manifested. I gratefully acknowledge that stream of subconsciousness thought that ebbs and flows through all things and brings unfulfilled ideas back to the surface to be created.
