Tumblr media
Let’s say that Google is the most popular and advanced search engine in today’s digital age. Millions of people – whether it’s individuals, small businesses, or large corporations, use Google search everyday for a variety of purposes.
However, most users may not be using Google search to its maximum capacity. Google can be made simple and easier to use than ever before. Here are 10 basic skills you should consider when power searching google and maximizing search efficiency:
1. Searching for an Exact Word or Phrase
Search for an exact word or phrase by enclosing the entire word or phrase in quotation marks. The placement of quotation marks are used to hold the exact word or phrases together; this will ensure that the words or phrases will remain together in the filtered results. It will yield only pages with the same words in the same order. Check out this sample search:

2. Searching for Something on a Specific Site
If you have in mind the exact website you are searching then you can navigate your search for something on the specific site with a Google Search. Simply add site:[website] before or after your search term  to get returned results from that specific site only. Doing this will generate results directly from the specific site and filter out the rest of the web! Check out this sample search:

4. Searching for a Specific Product Available Within A Specific Price Range
Ring in the beginning of the new year by shopping on a budget. 5. Searching for a Specific Filetype
Google offers a simple way to search for a specific filetype. When searching for a specific filetype, start by typing in filetype:___ followed by extension and then the item you are seeking to analyze. Note: There are multiple filetype extensions that you can use (pdf, doc, txt, jpeg) and to maximize your results do not add any spaces between the filetype, the colon, as well as the extension in the search. Check out this sample search:

6. Include or Ignore Words in Your Search
Google’s search engine may be tricky sometimes when the results match most of, but not all of the words you typed. For all the time we’ve known, there were no surprises that using the (+) symbol in front of the word you were searching for would include the word in your search. Today, Google has removed this featured and the new process to include a word in your search is to use quotation marks around the word(s) that you want Google to include.
Maintaining its simplistic and keeping things as they were, the process for excluding words in your search can simply done by using the (-) symbol in front of the word you want Google to exclude. Check out this sample search:

7. Finding Sites/Pages Similar to an Existing One
It doesn’t get any easier than this. To search for sites/pages similar to an existing one, all that is required to refine your search results is add related: followed by the website link that contains the information that you are referencing to.

 8. Confirming the Exact Form of a Quote
Google’s search engine is brilliant in the way that it is capable of confirming the exact form of a quote even if you were missing some of the words. So you ask how can this be done? Simply use an asterisk (*) as a placeholder within your quote to the missing words and google will search for the rest. Check out this sample search:
Tumblr media
9. Searching for Pages Containing Two Connected Words
To search for pages containing two connected words, type your first word then add “AND” or “OR,”  followed by the second word. Tip: When you are looking to include results containing both words use “AND” – whereas “OR” should be used when using another word that represents a similar term. Check out this sample search:
