propaganda I'm not falling for:
every human being needs to eat meat in order to survive, and the amount of meat needed to be consumed is an entirely individual and personal choice
the only way to obtain this necessary meat is by force-breeding, imprisoning and industrially slaughtering billions of animals every year
animal agriculture can be "regenerative" and "environmentally sustainable"
animals exist to be resources that we can exploit/products that we can buy & sell

Would you like to round up your total to donate to charity?
If you've ever heard those words, please, PLEASE don't respond yes.
It wasn't until I worked in the fundraising world that I learned how this worked, and it massively fucking sucks.
These are called "scan campaigns"
Okay, you say, but what is a Scan Campaign? Scan campaigns are those donation requests you get when you try and check out of somewhere. Like, “Would you like to round up?” or “Donate $1 to XYZ?” These are often framed like they're quick, feel good ways to help a cause and it can feel so gross to say no.
However, here’s what’s really happening:
You are the one who donates the money.
The company collects and bundles those donations.
The company then donates the full amount in its name.
The company gets the PR benefit and tax deduction.
You get… a receipt.
Yes, you read that right. The company gets a TAX DEDUCTION, based on YOUR PAYMENT. Sometimes they will match (like $10,000 to $10,000 raised, but they will still get the deduction and the headline for $20,000).
So, what do you do? Give money to a cause, yourself. You should always go to the source with any kind of charitable giving anyways (And I STRONGLY encourage checking out organization 990s on ProPublica - I should make a post about this too) because you need to know where your money is going.
I'm not saying NOT to give. I'm saying don't give corporations the ability to get goodwill they DON'T deserve. It may feel strange to say no when you're asked to give money to Childrens Miracle Network, but you can also come home and give right here - https://donate.childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org/ but look at their 990 first - https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/870387205
This is actually pretty high, it should be about 25% or lower for salaries and wages. But that's another post.

each year congress people should be required to go on a field trip where they each get dumped in the middle of a random u.s. town & handed a phone with google maps & forced to find their way back to washington solely through the use of local public transportation systems.
to be clear i don't think this would improve our political reality in any way, but it would be fun to watch

The backdrops in TOS are certainly a choice however I do appreciate how often they have characters stand in front of a bi flag gradient

🦉 🐸 🌿 for the ask game!
Thank you so much for the ask!
🦉 Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Night owl, 100%. My brain just works better when it's late; it always has. I can handle early mornings if necessary, though (although mental/chronic illness makes it harder RIP).
🐸 Describe your aesthetic.
Hm, I don't know. I love looking at all so many different aesthetics (cottagecore, dark academia, cyberpunk, etc.) and would love to cultivate any one of them, but in practice, I don't really have it in me right now. If I had to pick one, I guess I might say...basic? Normcore? I know that's probably not a very interesting answer and I'm not sure how accurate it is, but that's all I can think of.
🌿 Describe your favorite outfit.
I don't think I have one. But my favorite hoodie is a black Star Trek hoodie. It says Starfleet Academy on the front and it also says the Starfleet motto — ex astris scientia (from the stars, knowledge).
Thanks again for the ask @coffee-in-that-nebula! These were some great questions; hope you enjoyed the answers even if they're not all the most interesting!

big big biggest possible fan of when a whumpee who sacrificed themself for their friends/teammates is publicly displayed for their friends to see. Like their capture is broadcasted, or a video sent to the team, or its some sort of public setting where whumpee follows whumper around on a chain or more humiliatingly, a leash and collar. Even better if whumpee was someone they used to look up to as someone stronger/ more powerful than them and. Is now reduced to a toy

*Star Trek Thoughts Pt.2*
This one’s about Vulcans. Little headcannon I thought up (probably mentioned somewhere, but I’m writing this on 2hrs of sleep) to help differentiate them from Romulans. Both being the same species that split off from one another over logic…
And you know what? I’m still thinking of fangs.
Romulans should have fangs and Vulcans, as part of their coming of age? Should file them down when they reach puberty. Following logic makes them vegetarians, after all. They don’t need a mouthful of razors, but they should by no means be totally flat. Not herbivore looking veneers. No. They’re still a race with rituals surrounding combat, the Pon Farr, etc.
They should be flatter, but still longer than a Human.
Just picturing Commander Spock in the mess hall, maybe some new Ensigns are admiring him from afar. He’s got fans, of course. Spock’s someone to aspire to, much like his Captain, but then? As they’re watching? Spock picks up a forkful of greens, opens his mouth and they see 4 sharp canines and faintly pointed molars once decided for cutting through tendons. Ligaments. Breaking bones to suck out the marrow.
Now, willingly reduced to munching on dandelion greens and vegan croutons…
Spock, for the life of him, can’t imagine why all the little Ensigns are suddenly so afraid of him. Why they leap to do as he asks, but refuse to make eye contact and when obliged to? They go pale. (More than a few have fainted over the years)
(We love all Spock’s in this household, because at his core? In any form? He’s just a weird little scientist with a bowl cut who plays the harp and we love him for it)

wild to think that sam was originally intended to be the main character of The West Wing when he doesn’t even crack the top five most interesting characters on the show. tell me more about the press secretary and her very hot, very problematic affair with one of the reporters in the white house press pool! tell me more about the nineteen-year-old orphan working crazy hours for bullshit pay while raising his younger sister and dating the president’s daughter! tell me more about the babygirl deputy chief of staff with survivor’s guilt who causes as many problems as he solves and reads his own RPF on the clock! tell me more about the first lady and the years of insane medical malpractice she’s committed trying to keep her husband’s disability invisible!!
and then sam is like “oughhh noooo i hooked up with someone i didn’t know was a sex worker, whatever shall i do” like oh my god dude can you grow upppppp there’s a raft carrying like seven hundred refugees that’s about to get hit by a hurricane and we gotta secretly orchestrate the assassination of another head of state before lunch
