Thinking about it, Ricky couldn’t agree more. Their baby needed a good name, a pure name because after all, Ricky would make sure she remained pure. After some deep thought, he got it. “Poppy?”
“We do,” she chimed, mirroring his grin, the thought of a new life made her burst with joy, a new start for at least somebody, “Maybe we should name her after a flower, something pretty and sweet, something pure.”

“Well life is fucked up.”
“You know what they say, life goes on and time stops for no one.”

Ricky waited for the news before breaking into a massive grin. “A girl?” He whispered, not really believing it. He’d always wanted a daughter. “We got to think of names.”
She watched him intently, “Okay, good news,” she clasped her hands together, “It’s a girl.”

Ricky chuckled and pat her tiny little bump. “Our baby so I won’t curse,” he chuckled before raising an eyebrow. “What, Texas? Give me some good news.”
“Don’t say a word,” she pointed, “Baby on board.” Hopping over, she placed her hands on her hips, “Guess what!”

“Yeah, Millie. Same to you, alright? You can’t always be the one to help.” Ricky told her seriously and gave her a gentle smile. “Thank you Millie.”
Millie nodded at the boy’s reply, giving him a sympathetic smile. “Understandable,” she said quietly. “If you need anything, just let me know, yeah? Even if it’s just someone to talk to.”

“Are you sure? Nothing I can help with?” He wondered before nodding a little. “Yeah, of course.”
“Oh, no, I am fine. Just– I should be getting back to my room, probably. Wouldn’t want to break curfew by accident.” She smiled at him, “You have a nice day, yeah?

“No, I didn’t -- shouldn’t of put you on the spot and I’m going to call a lawyer, sort it out. I know that neither me nor you wanted this so I’ll fix it,” He explained to her seriously then rubbed his face. “No not really, no one can help. I just need to find a safe place,” he muttered quietly.
Pressing her lips together, Kitty gave him a small smile and reached out to gently touch his arm, “It’s okay, Ricky. I understand,” she assured, words spoken like a promise, “Its not your fault. You did what you had to.” At the mention of the baby, her brows furrowed in her confusion, “What do you mean? Is there anything I can do to help?”

“Can I help you with something?” Ricky wondered, slightly worried for the girl in front of him.
“Okay. Good.” Clara looked away, more focused on her thoughts than the boy standing before her. “Great,” she replied. “I’m just… great.”

Ricky listened and rubbed his face. “Our family is exactly what we’re avoiding. We -- never mind.” Ricky whispered and looked down to his hands. He really just wanted his little one to be safe in the future and here was not the place. “You know, this will be the only good thing to ever happen to me, a baby I didn’t even want will be the first good thing to happen to me. How fucked up is that?” Ricky whispered, more so to himself but he was still so mad about everything. “I just want the baby to not have the life we both did.”
Jesse nodded in understanding, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall beside them. He barely knew the kid but he felt sympathy for him, Jesse wouldn’t want his own child growing up and running around hallways full of murders and illnesses. Yet, this school still had its perks– the student body just came together during hard times and Jesse could bet that every one of them would protect that child with their life– especially him. “Why can’t the baby say with you or Tex? I mean, I know this isn’t the ideal place to raise a child but I’m sure you two will do a wonderful job, and you have support from your friends and family.” He gave him an encouraging smile, shoulders shrugging in hopes of bringing some hope into the boy.

Ricky nodded just a little before hearing her speak again; why was she talking? “I’m fine just trying to find somewhere safe,” he whispered quietly and rubbed his head. “How have you been?”
“I apologize if you were hoping I was Texas.” Her voice was still unusually even and distant. There was no masking the fact that she was slightly afraid of the boy now even though he had never quite given her reason to be. “You’re welcome.” She had begun to walk away when a voice inside of her head nagged her to turn back around and check up on him. A touch of kindness couldn’t hurt. “How have you been? Since… everything?”

“Yeah, I get you.” He whispered before looking to her then nodding. “Yeah I’m just... scatter brain.” He murmured as he got a glass of water.
Slipping her phone into her pocket, all motivation to do something productive disappearing, she was slightly surprised at Ricky’s question. “I’m doing okay. Just trying to get used to being back,” she said with a tiny shrug. Pausing a moment, she leaned against the counter. “Are you doing okay, Ricky?”

writing challenge ;; number 2.
Dear little one,
So you’ve yet to be born but I already know you’re going to be the most important thing in my life, the one thing I will always look after and cherish. You already mean so much to me and I can’t wrap my head around the fact that I’m going to have a little child. By the time you read this, you’ll be a young man or woman, most likely aged 16 because I doubt you’ll really care about much up until then; I know I didn’t. I probably didn’t care about much until this year.
A lot is messed up in this world, my little pea pod. I know I probably don’t have to tell you that but I will. Me and your mother, we haven’t had good lives at all. I think maybe you are the first thing to be good. I love your mother, not like a normal mom and dad do but she is my best friend. She’s always been my best friend and that is why we work. Anyway, that is beside the point. I want you to know that even when things are fucked up, you can come to me or your mother. We will do everything we can because we know the extremes of things being messed up.
Families come in all sorts of packages with all sorts of baggage, like mine did. My parents were monster – not the ones that you’ll want me to get rid of from the closet, the real kind, the human kind. They did things to me as a child, ones that I’ll never forget and ones that I never hope you ever experience. My parents though, are also the reason why I have you in my life. It sounds messed up and it is but I know I’ll want to thank them for giving me you and for showing me to never end up like they did. They destroyed me for many years and left me with nightmares permanently and I want to fight off any nightmares you’ll have in the future, my pea pod. I want to be the father I never had, someone who will protect you at all costs.
I have always worried you know, about turning out like them. I have worried that I’ll enjoy being like them but I know I won’t now since I heard about you coming into the world. I have never felt the need to take care of something as much as I need to take care of you and your mother right now. I’m so excited to find out what you are going to be, I’m so excited to see you walk and bring you to all the places I never got to go to. My little pea pod, I’m so excited to meet you.
Lastly, I want to say that I’m so proud of you. I don’t need to say will here because I know you’ll make me a proud daddy especially when you’ve made it this far into the future. I am proud to call you my child, son or daughter, and I want you to know that no matter what happens, I will be proud of you. I’m proud of your mother too, she never once let me down and I’m honoured to have your mother as a friend. I know when you’re in my life, it will be a pleasure, it already is and you’re just a little pea inside a pod right now. Don’t ever forget I love you more than anything that walked the earth. You’re always going to be your daddy’s girl or boy, no matter what.
I love you my pea pod,
Always,
Your daddy,
Ricky.

Ricky thought for a moment, he didn’t know why he was asking Jesse in particular but he was. “I was just --- needed advice,” Ricky admitted, rubbing his face. Adoptive parents fucked him over, he couldn’t trust that to not happen to his child. “I’m having a baby -- well not me but I just need to weigh my options out.”
Jesse thought for a moment, unsure of Ricky’s intentions. “Well, I would say grandparents– that’s who I live with, but if that’s also out of the equation, I would find adoptive parents… Why are you asking me this?”
