All I can think of while watching Ep 8 is how similar the premise is to Moonlight Chicken 😅
In this case, Maewnam's mum is right — there's no way a smaller store can compete with a bigger one due to one word: resources, which is why I didn't understand at first why the mum has to do this

A shark does not care if the little fishes don't know they are going to be chewed and become food. But the mum going out of her way to confront Wan might mean that the latter have something that she can use as leverage to win.
Because, while winning might look highly improbable, it is still possible to survive. Like Jim in Moonlight Chicken, Wan's store can scale smaller and find a couple of niche products she can offer. True, it may not lead to large profit margins, but it can give a slow, steady income compared to the rollercoaster one of her current store.
But it turns out, mum is just salty about the tuition fee

But if it is really Maewnam's money (that is, the mum haven't contributed a cent of it) then she shouldn't have any say in the matter.

now, listen, i love children. but that cat has been subjected to literal droves of strangers, talking to it, petting it, holding it, etc. and it has not shown even the slightest sign of aggression. so leave us alone and teach your child to not do whatever it is he did to push that poor patient animal over the edge.

the scene that moved me the most in this episode was the absolutely incredible 360° shot of wan being surrounded and visually overpowered by the advertisements.
not only did it show how out-gunned she was, how utterly unable to compete with the cheap prices that a chain can offer, but also how powerless she was in the face of that corporation. and i think it moved me so much because we've all felt this, haven't we? existing in a world where we are constantly surrounded by ads for corporations that seem ubiquitous and untouchable. where we know those corporations are doing bad things but are forced to buy from them anyway because they smothered the competition.
in all honesty, this was one of the best, most poignant scenes i have ever seen in ql, and it will stay with me for a very long time.

The cultural need to always recognize and put parents before what their adult children want is truly fascinating to me because that is the central issue in both relationships in Whale Store right now. It's two people putting what their lovers' mothers say or want above what their partner is telling them directly. And it's interesting because you have two characters who have either finally or for a long time been willing to go against their mothers and two who for a variety of reasons aren't willing to do that for them despite their wishes. That is the heart of the conflict... how do you balance loving someone as they are and the societal pressure to listen to their mothers' opinions on their relationships and lives?

I cant even make fun of them making it seem like people are obsessed with mouse mart a grocery chain bc there are really people out there that make Costco their whole personally
And I too am guitly of being a big fan of Wawa as a chain
Like it's not a exaggeration that people fall into propaganda and "brand loyalty"

No offense I truly dislike chompoo mom for many reasons her personality is not my type of person I would like to be around and her ignoring chompoo after she came out to her like this is Not helping her case
And I bet the show will reveal the reason why later but there's no justification for her behavior and she better apologize properly when the time comes or she's going on the list

I've heard of cat cafes even cat library/bookstores (there's on in philly and I visited it once it was very cute )
But also cat groceries is something else 😭 like im really amazed everyone shopped there just to see the cat (i get it tho som is adorable)
But unlike a cat cafe with has the added bonus of custome food and pastries to have customers keep coming back i fear that those that came for the cat wont return again after getting there 1 photo op so using that as a business plan isn't that sustainable unfortunately
