Gently graced by sweet and verdant memories of The Go-Betweens, literate, playful and sparkling with humor, its easy charms are irresistible – so, too, are its melodies. “We Got It Coming” is a smart and ageless new duet by and between London’s Lail Arad and Montréal’s JF Robitaille. It is an unalloyed delight, and it will be available from all major digital services from this Friday, June 23rd.

Poetic and wise, glowing with wit and irony and dove-grey with heartbreak, it’s gracefully reflective and gently melancholy at once. London’s Lail Arad has shared the studio version of her “The EU Song”, its weighty observations communicated with lightness and good-humor. You can find it and more of her music on her Bandcamp page now.

You can hear a deep reverence for Leonard Cohen reverberate as it rings with hope, kindness and poetry. “December Moon” is the lyrical lead track from Palace Blues, the most-recent album from Montréal’s wildly-talented JF Robitaille, and you can download the LP from iTunes now. He’s also recently shared Minor Dedications, a sumptuously-packaged volume of poems with an introduction by Suzanne Zelazo. You can order an autographed version containing a copy of the Palace Blues CD from his Bandcamp page now.

Montreal’s JF Robitaille drops first single “Missing You” from forthcoming new LP.
Tumblr media
Montreal bred songwriter JF Robitaille is no stranger to lofty expectations. Yes, he’s long been celebrated as one of the most engaging songwriters North of the 49 and with 2013’s Rival Hearts, the world began to take notice. After the album charted in Germany, he found himself playing at Hamburg’s fabled Reeperbahn Festival along with several other gigs throughout that country.
Robitaille’s international rep began to resemble his accolades in Canada. Here, a troubadour cut from the same cloth as Leonard Cohen. Or Nick Drake. Or Bob Dylan.
“one gorgeous track from an artist we wish we’d discovered earlier”
Now Robitaille brings to us Palace Blues the most ambitious album he has ever written. Recorded in familiar environs—it was captured at Preston, Ontario’s House of Miracles with longtime friend and bassist-guitarist Tavo Diez de Bonilla (Jenn Grant), drummer Marshall Bureau, keyboardist J.J. Ipsen (Hayden, Jim Guthrie), and horn player-guitarist, studio owner Andy Magoffin who also engineered the sessions. The result is his boldest, brassiest, and most accomplished work yet. No small feat.
On the first single Missing You he taps Canadian indie-rock mainstay Julie Doiron (Eric’s Trip) to add bright dabs of vocal colour.

Featuring the winged voice and calming presence of legendary Acadian musician Julie Doiron, “Missing You”, is the generous and understanding new single from Montréal’s JF Robitaille. A warming hearth in a blustery world, the single is available on iTunes Canada now. His next album is entitled Palace Blues, and it will arrive either in this coming February or March courtesy of Sparks Music.
