You Never Know Where the Next Electrician Might be Lurking
So, we all know that there is a shortage of electricians. Not enough young people are interested to learn the trade, and the electricians of the former generations are retiring. Governments are encouraging people to join the career, but so far, the numbers aren't very encouraging.
A possible solution: future electricians lurking in other careers or professions.
Take this young lady in Slathwaite, a lawyer and former legal assistant, who gave that all up to become an electrician.
To be an electrician is hard and even dangerous work, but it can also be exciting and rewarding. You get paid well, and you get to be your own boss.
If you aren't satisfied in your career, maybe you just haven't found the right one yet?

Electricians in the Antarctic
You can find electricians everywhere these days.
As long as there's people who need electricity, there an electrician will be.
Even as far as the Antarctic.
It's a safe bet he wasn't thinking of doing electrical repairs in the middle of nowhere while he was working on getting his license!

Before You Hire an Electrician
We asked a local Columbus Ohio electric repair company in some questions, what you need to know before hiring an electrician
-What’s the most important thing to ask an electrician before you hire them?
“Do you have insurance?”
Put simply, you want protection in case anything goes wrong, and a responsible electrician knows that, too. If you're dealing with a credible electrician, chances are that he'll be more than happy to provide you with his insurance information.
Much like car insurance, the best way to prepare for accidents is to anticipate and prepare for it, and those doing electrical work do so by getting coverage.

Provisional Electricians?
Authorities are doing their best to meet the shortage of electricians.
Senate Bill 78 was recently approved in Kentucky, providing that a provisional electrician license can be granted to those who have at least six years of experience. They need to pass a state exam and get a regular license within the next two years. If they don't, their provisional license will expire, and they won't be able to renew it.
Columbus Ohio Electrician 1550 Old Henderson Rd, Suite 45 Columbus, OH 43220 (614) 340-2458
Some master electricians are opposing the bill, claiming you can't give a license, provisional or otherwise, to who don't have the skills.
But what are you going to do if there just aren't enough electricians to go around?

More Female Electricians
Another way of filling in the shortage of electricians?
Encourage more women to join what was traditionally a male-dominated trade.
All they really need is to meet the same requirements. All told, it could prove to be a promising industry with plenty of opportunities for business and advancement to women.

Hiring an Electricians May be Cheaper in the Long Run
For most people, the main consideration in making a DIY project of electrical work is cost. Everybody wants to save money, and many figure that they can do electrical work themselves, without paying costly electrician fees.
But hiring a professional may actually be cheaper in the long run.
Electrical work is dangerous work, and it's also very technical work. Many DIYers learn soon enough that they may have gotten in way over their head. Then they call in the professionals, if you’e one of those people go to this website and get the pros doing the grunt work.
Those who manage to finish their DIY electrical project learn that a bunch of stuff isn't working the way it’s supposed to, and then they call in the professionals. Electricians who come in late in the day usually have a lot to say about the novice electrical work they encounter, and how unsafe and dangerous it all is.

Electricians from High School
Here's another way authorities are trying to address the expected shortage of electricians.
A high school in Nashville, Tenn., is offering students an electrician lab, where they can learn about the basics of electrical work.
And then as a further nudge in the right direction, students who graduate can get their certification and start working as electricians immediately after high school.
I think electricians should be a little longer in the tooth than just being high school graduates, but the market needs manpower, and I guess it's good that high school graduates have another feasible option for a job.
If they work at their career hard enough, they might be certified as master electricians someday.
Atlanta Electrician  just opened a new apprentice program, go to their website to learn more about it.

Electrical Hazards
Sometimes you can be as careful as you could be, but it is the negligence of others that can cause harm.
That is what happened to an electrician in Madison County, who claims that the power system operator failed to follow the proper sequence for shutting down a circuit breaker, and also for failing to provide information or advice that it was going to do just that.
The result? The circuit breaker exploded, and an electrician suffered severe injury, including disfigurement and disability.
A case for negligence is now pending against the power system operator.

Post-Flood
After the recent flood in Vermont, homeowners are waiting to be able to go back home.
There has been so much damage, however, that authorities want master electricians to check the wiring and electrical systems of homes and buildings before anyone can go home.
Just because the floodwaters have receded doesn't mean we need to relax our vigilance against potential dangers. And uncontrolled electricity can be a very dangerous thing.
To everyone, stay safe.

Lessons from Sparky
A British actress got coaching lessons from the on-set electrician about Bristol accents.
A "sparky," as they are called, provided Sarah Lancashire with tips on how to pronounce words and phrases for the show Kiri.
Most electricians usually just work behind the scenes. But this one sparky certainly got pulled out of the woodwork!
