peter was definitely enjoying his night; more than he imagined he would have been.  but between all the dancing and drinks and overall enjoyment, he found himself needing a bit of air, enjoying the crisp air and quietness ( compared to the other side of the door ) as he stood outside, enjoying a smoke.  when he heard the door, peter looked up, nodding at the person that walked out.  “want a hit?,” he offered the splint in his hand to his new company.  ( @fantasiafallsstarters​​ )

velma had been surprised to find herself enjoying the new year’s eve festivities- well, she wasn’t surprised that she was having fun, more so she was surprised at just how much fun she was having. she had hardly left the dance floor, but as the night wore on she found herself in need of a break and some much needed fresh air. it was unfortunate that she choose a spot already occupied by a smoker, a faint frown appearing and disappearing just as fast as it had arrived from her face as she stepped into the chilly air. “no thanks,” she was quick to respond shaking her head no as well, “i’m just here for some fresh air.”

He paused in his rummaging, and deflated a bit. ❝ You weren’t? ❞ He shoulda known it was too good to be true. Maybe the Darkwing Duck trailer hadn’t even aired over here in Rome Pines? He didn’t even know how the crossover between the cities worked, if he was honest. ❝ Oh— yeah, I just came from there. ❞ She withdrew an envelope from her pocket, and he startled, opening his messenger bag to peer inside it, and— sure enough, he was missing his letter to Jim Starling. He had no clue if the other actor was even still alive, but they hadn’t found any evidence otherwise on the set— Jim had just vanished during the explosion. He just wanted to apologize for how everything played out— ❝ Oh geez— thank you. This letter is really important, I’d hate to have to rewrite it. ❞ He took it from her. “Uh— sorry for rambling a second ago. ❞

“i’m afraid not,” velma admitted, rather sheepishly, despite having no real reason to feel bad, she couldn’t help but feel sympathetic for drake. he had been so excited- and instead of just going along with it, she’d had to open her mouth. “i’m glad i was able to catch you,” she responded with a smile, able to feel good about one of her actions. “an autograph would be nice,” she continued, as she opened her own bag, digging through the contents to find something for him to sign. finally snagging the corner of her small notepad, and pulling it out along with an ink pen. “will this do?” she asked, arching an eyebrow as she held the items out. she’d probably regret using up one of the pages, but for now it was the best she could come up with.

“   OF COURSE  I’M  sure —   ”   huffing petulantly and crossing her arms , marie slid from her seat to find the recipe she hadn’t bothered to fish out from adelaide’s recipe cards . she made the cookies every year , and had been doing so for nigh on a decade . she was certain she’d remembered everything correctly . she could do this with her eyes closed , as far as she was concerned .   “    — i mean , it’s my grandmother’s recipe , i can’t imagine i managed to screw it up . i make these every year ..   ”   and maybe that was part of it , too ; she felt the need to be defensive , as though the insinuation that she might’ve screwed up something of adelaide’s was an affront of the worst kind . not that velma would have known this , of course , but she still bristled at the accusation regardless . rifling through cards with ease , marie tapped one foot almost anxiously as she searched for the recipe in question , eyes flicking up to pin the woman beneath her semi - frenzied gaze .   “   maybe it’s just because i’m making so many at once ? i usually try to space them out , but i’m in a bit of a crunch for time right now … you  really  think they’re hellish ?   ”

velma quickly came to regret mentioning the cinnamon in the first place, as it had become clear that it was something the other wouldn’t be able to let go. she hadn’t intended to upset marie, let alone offend her, it had been a poor attempt at a joke that had spiraled out of control. maybe that’s what she got for trying to be funny. either way- she couldn’t help but frown as she listened to the other’s explanation. “i’m sure you got the recipe right!” she quickly interjected, “maybe i’m just overly sensitive!” she added, quick to find an excuse. it probably wasn’t a great idea to let the other think everything was fine, but she couldn’t stand the thought of having upset marie. “oh no! they’re not hellish at all!”

( kaylee bryant, demi female , she/her & they/them )╰ ✧ ˔ ⭒ magic is in the air ! oh wait - that’s just my old friend, VELMA DINKLEY, the TWENTY THREE year old FORENSIC SCIENTIST. they’ve lived in rome pines for ages, so everyone knows that they’re PERSPICACIOUS and ACIDULOUS, just like VELMA DINKLEY from SCOOBY DOO. they may not have any magic in them, but the neighborhood sure knows them from their A PRISTINE, STARK WHITE LAB COAT WORN OVER AN OVERSIZED ORANGE SWEATER, RED CORDUROY SKIRT AND A PAIR OF MATCHING SUEDE BOOTIES & A LEATHER BOUND NOTEBOOK, PAGE AFTER PAGE OF ILLEGIBLE HANDWRITING, RANGING FROM OBSERVATIONS TO GROCERY LISTS, IT’S COVER CRACKED FROM USE. apparently, they are CURIOUS about meeting these magical citizens from pastoral city, so let’s just hope they will get along with their new neighbors…⭒˔ ╮

click here for a link to velma’s wikia page. i’m going to be keeping her background as close to canon as possible, but the timelines are a little messy. i’ll likely follow the animated timeline. below, i’ll detail notable points in velma’s life. 

velma has always been bright, gifted, whatever you want to call it. she tested out of pre-school and into kindergarten at the age of four. she could have skipped several more grades over the years but her parents decided to keep her at her current grade, for the sake of normalcy. 

because she started school early she was in the same grade as the rest of mystery inc, which led to them becoming a tight-knit group. their bond just as strong all these years later.

velma was that kid who was constantly being enrolled in new classes and activities, trying to find her hobbies. part of this was her parents trying to encourage their daughter to be more social, but it was mainly fueled by velma’s own curiosity. examples of these activities would include photography classes, swim lessons, pottery classes, cooking lessons

graduating from high school at the top of her class, velma had a whole world of opportunities in front of her. she chose to go on to rome pines university where she earned a dual degree in forensics and chemistry. now she works in a lab somewhere as a forensic scientist which she absolutely loves. 

velma has been competing in science fairs since early childhood, obtaining quite a large amount of awards. she's never been much of a braggart, but she will always talk about her awards and scientific accomplishments. she’s also wrote quite a few articles for scientific journals. 

i will probably expand on this in the future but for now this is it !

canon changes:

this section will be brief, as i absolutely love the velma we all know and love i just have a few minor tweaks to her character!

first and foremost, velma dinkley identifies as demi female, using both she/her & they/them for pronouns.

now let’s talk about her appearance! i know we all picture velma’s iconic orange and red outfit, and while those two colors still make up a majority of her wardrobe she does wear other colors! she’s particularly fond of yellow. she’s also big on booties, doc martens to be specific. and lastly, and perhaps the most important she wears contacts!

also, forget any notion of velma being straight. while i’m still willing to go with a storyline of velma and shaggy dating (if we ever get a shaggy), they would’ve broken up because velma is just very very gay. 

i’ll have to check with alyssa to see the extent of mystery inc’s mystery solving, but i do think they would’ve solved a lot of mysteries during their youth and high school. and they haven’t stopped solving them, it’s probably just not as much as they used to. 

fun facts:

velma always has either a hair tie on her wrist or a piece of ribbon in her pocket to pull back her hair in case she ever needs it. 

a self-confessed linguist, velma has been fluent in english and japanese since early childhood. she has since become fluent in latin and greek, as well as having a good understanding of spanish, italian, french, and german. 

you already know she packs her lunch in a bento box, complete with a matching thermos.

everything in velma’s life has to be organized, and in her own specific way. even one thing out of place, and she won’t be able to move past it. this extends well into her daily routine/schedule as well, meaning she’s not a huge fan of surprises. she keeps a very detailed calendar, it’s color coded. 

she’s terrified of clones, stemming from the bobo the clown incident on her fifth birthday. even the mention of the word clown gets to her. it’s the only part of her behavior that she would call irrational. she has since replaced her full set of encyclopedias, they remain some of her most prized possessions. 

i feel like she’s the kind of gal to carry a satchel, it’s just easier that way. in it she has all of the essentials, her ID, money, keys, a first aid kit, a flash light, a magnifying glass, pens, a nail file, sewing kit, a book in case she gets bored, a matchbook, tape, chapstick, so on. 

a once chronic nail biter, velma has since started to paint her nails in hopes of putting a stop to this problem. it seems to have worked so far. 

she has a pet calico cat named puzzles (subject to change) she loves puzzles, a lot. she talks to her and everything. very cute. 

she absolutely loves mint gum- she always has a pack of it with her. however, she cannot stand chewing gum in front of other people so she usually spits it out. 

she’s a collector, she sees an interesting item or trinket and he has to have it.

an academic rival - they’ve been competing since childhood and wont be stopping anytime soon. they cant stand each other, this is important. 

exes ! velma is hella gay. otherwise, i feel she’s maybe not the best at relationships but she’s very caring and that’s what counts !

🧦 : Do they appreciate Christmas Cards as they do presents?

velma absolutely loves christmas cards! they have a big box full of all the ones they’ve received, they keep saying they’ll do something with them but despite never having gotten around to it- they do foster fond memories.

✨ : Do they go crazy with Christmas decorations or are they more for a lowkey kinda Christmas?

velma is definitely more of a lowkey decorations type of person, but living with daphne has meant plenty of compromises- a major one being decorations. basically, daphne gets to pick everything and velma helps. it’s worth noting that velma does this without any complaints.

🌲 : Does your muse celebrate Christmas? If they don’t, what and how else do they celebrate during the holidays?

velma has always celebrated christmas, but similarly has always enjoyed helping her friends to celebrate what holidays they believe in. 

💁 : Would your muse work on Christmas if they had the option to?

i don’t think so, while velma absolutely loves her job, she does like a break. however, given the opportunity she would definitely spend christmas solving a mystery. 

📝 : Does your muse or their family have any holiday traditions?

while the dinkley family has never been particularly festive, her parents did great a game for velma and her younger sister where they had to guess what was in each present before opening it. they could shake, measure, and ask questions but they had to make a guess.
