Final
For my final I went with Cubism and Fauvism as my two core topics in my piece. With the elements of Cubism I Used small oval line shapes as leaves to my tree. As for the bark of the tree I simply layered paint strokes on top of each other. I added curved lines to represent leaves flowing through the wind. To keep the movement throughout the art I added white waves and these 3 lines.
The Fauvism elements I used are colors that represent my connection with the elements outside. The sky to me is warming and bright, one of the many reasons why so many enjoy sunsets/sunrises. to me the leaves travel their own journey through life which is why I went with black, a personal connection to me, black has been a color I’ve always included in my everyday life, i find the beauty in the darkness.
Thank you for such a great semester :p

Final
For the Final I was inspired by the concepts of Feminism and NYC 1980s. For the Feminism aspect i used the stereotypes of feministic symbols and colors. I made my background a vibrant pink that is always associated as a “girl” color and i added flowers to really enhance the idea of the stereotypes.
As far as the NYC 1980s go I was inspire with Keith Haring’s logo Heart Man piece. I switched up the color scheme to make it more personal with the black. I thought having Haring’s Heart logo on the pink background brought the two concepts together.
I loved this course so much, strengthen my relationship with art and nature!

For this week's assignment I was inspired by this specific piece done by Keith Haring. Something about the movement and rhythm in this piece reflects how I see life sometimes. I added my own “twist” by keeping the main focal point a twist rather than adding legs. I used a similar color pallet as Haring.
Attendance
Madonna was a really big icon in nyc during the 80s.

For my puppet, I used an empty toilet paper roll as the body of the puppet , an old gatorade wrapper as a head wrap , some pieces of hay straw for the hands and vile q-tips from my suite mates as the legs. i decided to name him “Miraculous”. He loves dancing to music and guiding people with words of wisdom which is why he wears the head wrap, it makes him feel connected with fortune telling.

For this weeks assignment I used foil from leftovers and old popcorn bag and can caps for earrings (his ears weren’t pierced). The foil was used to make bangles and half the necklace with the popcorn bag and my friend ben is the one wearing the accessories.

For this week’s assignment i sort of went with a symbol rather than a shape by accident and made a growing sprout root.I used rocks as the roots and top of the sprout and sticks as the leaves of the sprout.
In Native American history roots signify connections and heritage through to their ancestors. They believed it was in representation of their origins deep within mother Earth and nature itself. This created the respectable links between their lives and the entwining moments of nature. Roots are often associated with hope, growth, and stability. The entire plant wouldn’t make it in this world without the root system. They grow and grow continuously building up. On another note a dead root could symbolize dis-attachment or the state of letting go what’s heavy in your life and something that’s non purposeful in your process of growth.

For this week’s Feminism Assignment I went with the beauty brand ‘The Revolve’ and their makeup products. I made my background with the same color pallet as their blush product. I mixed all the colors in the way I did to show that sometimes makeup doesn’t cover up a mess it could just add to it. I made the phrase “Revolution” because of how far feminism has changed in society. I also wanted to incorporate a phrase that reflects what Feminism is to me, An idea and movement that is strong, powerful and resilient.
Attendance: I picked Gold Guns Girls

For my device I chose to draw smart shades, window shades that are battery remote controlled to go up and down to the customers satisfaction. Customers can set a timed schedule for the shades in different rooms of the houses. Personally I think these would be a great product to invest in. I love the sunlight through the day but at night I love my privacy and sometimes it can be a hassle to have to go room by room every day and night to switch shades up and down. From cars to shades and Ai there’s an automatic age that the world is going through right now. It’s like society is becoming more and more reliable on what’s now real. I put the shades in a “Barbie Dreamhouse” setting to show how artificial life is getting and I also put holes to show the blue sky in the house to have that futuristic architectural design.

For the Minimalism Assignment with light I choose to use my sunset lamps in a friend’s spare room. I put one lamp on one corner of the bed and the other lamp on the other side of the room on a dresser. I used the remote to combine greens with blues, blues with purples, reds with oranges, yellows with reds, etc. I actually loved how they all came out and how it looks in my camera roll.

Assignment 7: Cubism
To begin this project, I drew shapes with pencil then traced over them in blue, purple, and pink crayons. I cut out a variety of objects, mostly from a Bloomberg magazine, and pasted them onto my background in a disassembled form.

For my homework I chose to draw my friend, Ben, using pastels and I chose to go with a monochromatic color scheme to draw him. I went with blue because when I’m with him the environment is calm and chill. We have late night talks and listen to music while vibing. When we aren’t on campus we like to participate in a little “gardening” hence why i Incorporated the smoking fog coming from his arm just to add a twist.

For homework I used a frappuccino cup from Mcdonalds and foil I found next to a dumpster. I was inspired by this girl I met this week. She had given me a tiny alien toy and she told me her and her friends like to give the people they meet these tiny aliens, which I thought was amazing. I used acrylic paint (grass green, forest green, lime green and yellow) to paint the cup as “lights” and the foil was used for the “UFO” wrapped over the top of the cup. I then drew a tiny stick figure floating up and I put the alien she gave me right on top.

I chose to draw my friends dancing at a pitbull concert we attended back in september. I used this photo because they were both dancing in sync to the music and this photo just makes me so happy and reminds me of how fun that day was. It was downpouring, we were drinking, the atmosphere was unmatched and as you can tell from the photo, we weren’t afraid to show our moves.

For my piece this week, I wanted to keep the background simple with a grey and black frame to act as a “cage” and keep the colors of life trapped within the blacks and greys.
Some products I based the work off of were the M&M’s, they’re not my favorite but they have that colorful palette that is pleasing to the audience, kids, young adults, department stores, etc. I also included Purina Cat food, which was given a 6.7/10 rating on its product, having numerous recalls as early as 2007. The pricing is one of the main reasons why so many still purchase it, it’s affordable. I also included KMS Hairstay gel, which is highly recommended for its phenomenal hold. Personally, I only use ECO and Garnier products when it comes to my hair, it has yet to fail me all these years.

For the midterm I created this “abstract” piece. I put quotes around abstract because as much as the whole design is abstract, the center “tornado shape” is my name in cursive if it was flipped to the side. I tried my best to color match with the materials I have on me.
As far as the approach, designing digitally was easy with the hands but less control versus working with my hands which was more hands on but much more control. They’re both like a double edged sword.

For my midterm piece I went with a popular photo of Khloe Kardashian. Back in 2020, she posted this photo onto her instagram and a lot of viewers didn’t even recognize her, calling her out for photoshopping and editing. During the same time, in the Kardashian Series when filming her confessions, her face was completely different adding to the idea of touch ups. I didn’t change much in my piece other than dramatically making her facial features warped and edited to make her really look “noticeably unnoticeable”. I gave her a larger nose and mouth and exaggerated eyes. I wanted to keep everything else like her hair, skin and chest “perfect” to emphasize the dramaticness of everything.
I went with this particular photo because I understand her. I do keep up with the Kardashians and Khloe, to the public eye, was the “fat sister” and it changed how she felt about herself. That’s a huge problem I and a lot of people struggle with, listening to others opinions on how you look and the judgement and scrutiny of it, Khloe posting this shows that it’s something celebrities struggle with too.
Society is too comfortable with everything being “too big”, “too small”, “too fat” or “too flat” when at the end of the day they’re only standards. We forget that standards aren’t always going to be met, and that’s okay, and honestly, people have so much time on their hand if strangers editing their own photos is their biggest issue. And not to contradict my opinion but I will say too much editing can cause backlash with the younger generation, making the beauty standards higher which encourages insecurities.
