I spend a totally normal and reasonable amount of time thinking of if Devil’s Acre (as we know it in the books, and not the actual historical place) were real, what I would do to plant gardens all around. I could plant fruit trees, and do window boxes, and amend the soil, and make floating gardens that would clean the water. I could make janky ass 1800s versions of vertical hydroponic or aeroponic towers. I could put bees in there. Rooftop gardens.
#I wanna get one of those maps of the acre and blow it up big so I can draw landscaping plans on it#I’m so serious right now that would be so fun for me

I’m bored, everyone answer my question.
#I think the only one you can’t guess what it’s about from the name and/or reading the tags on one of my last posts is annihilation#which is about this meteor (?) that crashes to earth and emits this field around it that slowly#oops#slowly creepingly changes everything around it and the team of scientists (all women?) who enter the field to study it

Happy maybe 10 years-ish of me enjoying mphfpc, we’ll see if I reread it sometime soon and have anything new to say
#first time I read it I was 13/14 and I turned 23 recently. so. it’s inescapable fellas#also I would like to reread it but I alsoooo kinda want to read Saving the Wild South by Georgann Eubanks (ecology book) nextttt#but I’m reading a different nonfiction book right now (The King of Confidence by Miles Harvey) so?? maybe I intersperse it with fiction

If I were better at talking and getting my point across I’d have some very similar things to say about mphfpc as Biz Barclay does in her video about A Discovery of Witches. Obviously I’m very fond of mphfpc and enjoy it (having been reading it since I was like. 13-14ish) but there’s. So many things about how it was written that make me want to chew my own arm off because Riggssss what are you doinggggg
#yall should go watch it but the video is uh. nearly four and a half hours long. but Biz is entertaining so it passes#I haven’t read/watched a discovery of witches so yknow I can’t really say but I do think mphfpc handles race a little better#and that’s not me saying mphfpc is bad or anything. just that a lot of the political unconcious of the story is not being explored. in text

(golan anon) if I was put in charge of a mphfpc visual interpretation I would put Dr. Golan struggling to study to be a psychiatrist and/or sprinting to his next odd job in the background of every Jacob childhood flashback. I want baby Jacob in the library and behind him there is a very tired man wearing sunglasses inside, sobbing into a textbook. Vote Me, Random Anon In Your Inbox, 2025
Please oh my god this is the funniest fucking thing. Imagining a poor, sleep deprived man and his Weird Dog (hollow) going about daily tasks is so funny to me.
Do you think golan borrows from loan sharks to pay off his student debt just to feed them to Malthus when they come to collect.

I love putting Percival Murnau in situations. Finn and I have trapped him in a house of mirrors, with a wight that we’re making up specifically to annoy him

As promised, here is me dressed as Caul. Yes, in my bathroom.
I have a few more things, but I am hiding them under the cut because 👉👈

First is me with my 7 feet cardboard Caul. Second is, believe it or not, also part of the final result (it’s the blue stuff. I put it in there with some multiple effect). Third is the backside of the bow (very proud of that) and last is just something silly I made cause tbh Caul was probably my trans awakening (I do not use tiktok btw)
#I was not expecting the end to that video and I’m dyinggg#also hello 👀👀👀 (<- gay intentions)#you did so good Finn! I’m proud of you!#jack bentham#art

I’ve been drawing Alma a lot lately, here’s two younger versions of her! Not sure what she’s doing in the first one, but it’s something dramatic. Didn’t really like how the middle section of her dress looked, so I drew it again in the third picture, you get the point. I was thinking of when she rescued Emma, so I did try to give her a more 40s looking dress but it came out more 50s :P anyways, the second picture is when she’s 12-ish? And still at the ymbryne academy

there are some things a character should not be able to tell us about themselves EVEN with a gun to their head. depending on the character that could even expand to include "most" things

I work in an old folks home, with the memory care unit (dementia/Alzheimers/etc). Obviously can’t say people’s names, but the person I’m talking about here really likes birds, so we’ll call them Robin.
Robin likes to stay up late, much later than we keep the tv on, or basically any of the other residents are up. Robin is my little buddy and I’ll sit and talk to them if I have nothing else to do. Last night, I asked them if they like books, and if they like scary stores, and they said yes. So until they were ready to go to sleep, I read Hill House to them. Do they have any clue what’s going on? Loosely. They’re really stuck on the fact the Eleanor took the car without her sister’s permission.
Today I walked in and was checking on my group, including Robin, and they wouldn’t answer any of my questions, but they would repetitively ask me “when does the haunting start?”
I know what they’re asking, but it sounds very silly to me. Like, yes of course our regularly scheduled Haunting Hour starts at bedtime. When the ghosts come out.

Cannot impress upon y’all how how fuckin gay these two are. Obviously there’s gonna be more important things happening here, house haunted, etc etc, I really have no idea what this story is about cause the show is entirely different from this book, but! It really is so lovely how much Eleanor admires Theodora and how they get along with each other immediately and say weird shit and Theodora tries to encourage Eleanor. No idea what’s gonna happen, probably one of them will die or be irreparably changed, but in the meantime. They’re having a nice evening together, thinking about death, and exploring the garden
