“MBC variety show ‘Birds of a Feather’ cancelled after 4 months

“MBC has decided to pull the plug on ‘Birds of a Feather’ due to poor ratings. The variety show will continue until the end of month, according to a broadcasting official on May 4.

‘Birds of a Feather’ (끼리끼리) is the first variety show in South Korea in which many cast members are divided into different personalities. The ten cast members, who were united according to their natural tendencies, appeared in the concept of giving viewers fun, empathy and laughter with different tensions in the same situation. The cast includes Park Myung Soo, Jang Sung Kyu, In Gyo Jin, Lee Soo Hyuk, Eun Ji Won, Hwang Kwang Hee, Lee Yong Jin, Ha Seung Jin, Jung Hyuk and Sung Kyu.

It first aired on January 26, and has been competing with KBS 2TV’s ‘Boss In The Mirror’ and SBS’ ‘Running Man’ in the 5 PM time slot every Sunday. Its rating was about 2% until February 16, when the rating fell to 1%, and has been struggling ever since. After 4 months on air, it has been canceled by MBC due to the continued poor ratings.

Meanwhile, what program will replace ‘Birds of a Feather’ is still under discussion.”

Sigh, my heart sank after finding out about this. I always look forward to watching this show on Sundays. Why couldn’t they give this show more time? Or maybe change its timeslot? Sigh!

But let’s try to be optimistic. Soohyuk made some new friends and got re-acquainted with old ones (I’m talking about u, Kwanghee!). There are many happy memories he made with his castmates. It was a fun experience for him. I’m happy for him. And we got to see some of his real personality (quiet, shy, smart, kind, hard-working, funny). I hope this show helped Soohyuk gained more attention and popularity that producers will invite him on more variety shows. How about “I Live Alone” (though Soohyuk is quite a private guy)? How about “Knowing Brothers,” “All the Butlers,” “My Little Old Boy”?

I’ll continue to watch this show till it ends. Please watch it and still give it support!

lee soo hyuk & jang ki yong (이수혁&장기용) ⌁ esquire ‘20/05

This is a clip from about few months ago (has Eng subs). It’s from the press conference of Lee Soohyuk’s new variety show "Kkilikkili" ("Like Likes Like", "Birds of a Feather", "Together Together"). The show airs on Sundays. Park Myungsoo’s response about Soohyuk is so funny. “Maybe he’s in trouble or something. He’s working harder than everyone else.” “Some of us (not Soohyuk) look as if we had been lying in bed in a hospital.” He also gave good praises of Soohyuk.

 "Kkilikkili" ("Like Likes Like", "Birds of a Feather", "Together Together") a fun show to watch, seeing their reactions to the games and their interactions with one another. Here, u see Soohyuk be his natural self; u see different sides of him that u didn’t before. He’s very polite: on several occasions, I noticed him greeting the film crew with “hello” and bowing his head. He’s kind-hearted (he was passing food & drinks to the others, he didn’t want Jiwon to go on the rollercoaster alone so he accompanied him, the times he helped Sunggyu). He’s not funny like the others but funny in his own way. He works diligently (like when he carefully passed the flour to the next person, when they had to make ropes out of hay, when he was so focused on making the dumplings). It’s impressive that he did well at most of the challenges, scoring pretty high, and not be overly competitive. He’s such a calm guy, taking things in strides (like when they had to eat hot roasted yam while their bare feet was placed in icy cold water; the others were yelling and screaming, but he just laughed, enjoying the moment, or the time when he had to go through an amusement park haunted house: even though he said he was surprised/scared, he didn’t really jumped). Ah, he’s so cool! He’s smart too as u’ll see he sometimes use certain strategies. To the producers: Thank you so much for casting Soohyuk! To Soohyuk: Thank you for agreeing to be on this show!

So far my favorite characters in “Born Again” are Cha Hyung-Bin and Kim Soo-Hyeok (but I like Soo-Hyeok a little more cuz he’s so cool and smart). And I’m not being biased cuz I’m a Lee Soohyuk fan. I’ve always like good cop/detective characters. Cha Hyung-Bin is pure-hearted & righteous that u can’t help hoping he won’t in danger and forever be with the love of his life. Soo-Hyeok may use methods that may be wrong and deemed illegal but he’s doing it to prevent criminals from killing more people. He’s so cool and fearless in front of these criminals; the way he just invoke fear in them with just a smirk. I really hope Soohyeok is the reincarnation of Hyungbin. (Not that I have anything against Jang Ki-Yong’s character. I don’t dislike Jong-Beom. I sympathize with him, feeling trapped and not getting real love).

I like this clip from episode 3. Kim Soo-Hyeok’s (Lee Soo-Hyuk) is the cold, stern prosecutor with a strong conviction to lock up criminals for as long as possible. But here, u see his tender side. The way his eyes soften as he turns and sees his fiancée, apologizes and gives her a soft peck on her lips. And then he tells her she can raid his fridge and it’s stocked up with her favorites. I thought that was sweet of him. So considerate of him to buy her favorite foods! He’s not all icy!

(Now, now, no hating or getting jealous on the girl. U can still have Lee Soohyuk in your dreams and fantasies.)

This is a nice interview (has English subs!) Lee Soo Hyuk did when he had a photoshoot for W Magazine. Not many people could pulled off that outfit. He’s got some witty responses. Q: “Are there any questions you want to avoid?” A: “Then you’re gonna ask them once I tell you?” I like his answer to the last question (in the ending credits).

Hello! Annyeong haseyo! I’m new at this so please be patient and don’t mind my ineptitude. (I’m still learning – still a work in progress.) I’ve decided to make this new account a Lee Soohyuk fansite. Why? Because…well, I just feel he doesn’t get as much love. He doesn’t get a lot of credit or praise for his works. And I feel he’s underrated. (When will he get main, primary lead roles?! When will he get the girl?! It can be frustrating!)

I know there are some fansites. This is not to disrespect them or clash with them. I’m just being greedy as there doesn’t seem to be a lot of fansites about him. I wish there are more. Or maybe I’m not looking at the right places. Once there are more fansites, I’ll be so glad and happy. When that happens (and it will), I might discontinue this account because one of my wishes is fulfilled.

So come on out, Lee Soohyuk fans! Where are u? He’s discharged from the military since the summer last year. I know there’s more of u out there that haven’t shown up. And I hope there will be more new fans. If u’re new to him, please give him a chance and get to know his charms and talents. Let’s share the love for him!
