Don't look Back

Philippians 3:13. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.

 

I lost my parents at a very young age. My aunt and her family raised my brother and me. I raised my daughter amongst the family. My daughter recently had a baby and the things I kept turning a blind eye to, and keeping quiet about, I couldn't do any longer. I had already subjected my daughter to the rejection and emotional abuse. I did not want to bring a third generation into this family and she endures the same abuse. I had to make a decision to come from amongst them.

Luke 9:62 But Jesus told him, "Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God."

Remember in Genesis 19 Lott and his family were told to leave Sodom and Gomorrah and God told them not to look back, but his wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt. I know how she must have felt, leaving the only home you ever known. Not knowing how you will survive without them.

Genesis 19:17 When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, "Run for your lives! And don't look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!"

Genesis 19:26 But Lot's wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt.

There are times when I think I should have held on a little longer, but if I stayed I would never grow into the person God wants me to be. I would never heal. The place God has for me, they cannot come. So I had to leave. I had to trust God that he would provide the way for my family and I. That my leaving is only the beginning of his promises over my life.

Isaiah 43:18-19 "Remember not the former things, not consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

If you are reading this and find yourself in a toxic relationship or in a similar situation like mine or a place God is calling you out of, here is my encouragement to you, do not be afraid, God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind. Come up with a plan, use it, and leave. Watch God move on your behalf.
