BUTTERFLY KISSES
Iwaizumi x Reader
Words- 1236
“Iwaizumi-san, wait!” you arrived breathless and ruffled before Iwaizumi, who had waited for you as you accosted him. He wore an amused smile on his lips and a soft look in his eyes, the latter of which you decided to ignore along with the tingling in your heart. Drawing in a couple of long breaths, you held up the notebook you had in your hands and said, “The notes that you asked for yesterday.”
Iwaizumi took it with a soft ‘thank you’, and a faint tinge of carnelian besprinkled his cheeks as your fingers touched in the act. You quickly looked away, feeling your own cheeks glow with a rising warmth.
“Uh, I’ll return this to you as soon as I’m done,” he added, awkwardly waving the notebook, and not quite meeting your eyes.
“You don’t have to worry about it,” you replied with a wave of your own, feeling quite lightheaded and also stupid for actually waving as if bidding goodbye.
“So uh, would you—” He abruptly stopped midway, apparently arrested by something very serious in you, for his face flamed scarlet while his eyes fixed themselves on your… neck? your collar?
He started as you called him and without meeting your eyes, hastily muttered an apology before hurrying away, leaving you confounded and wide eyed in the hallway.
~*~
You stood outside the volleyball gym listening to the creaking of shoes and the voices of the players inside, the playful breeze your only companion. You had been standing there for a considerable time, and anyone walking by would think that you were there to confess to Seijoh’s heartthrob, especially since you looked and felt the part perfectly. However, your anxieties were engaged elsewhere, and if it weren’t for the assignment your teacher had assigned you to deliver, you would not be here.
Since your meeting this morning, Iwaizumi had been rather skittish around you, avoiding you whenever he could, and replying in broken accents without meeting your eye when talking to you seemed unavoidable. You didn’t really know what you had done, but you were rather hurt at this strange and rude behaviour, and you decided to execute your errand with all speed without speaking a word to him.
There was a hush inside the gym by and by, and you determined that you would hand over the assignment meant for Iwaizumi to whoever came out the door and be on your way.
Just then, you heard footsteps behind you and you turned with as amiable a face as you could assume, so that you could get your request accepted. But it fell as soon as you saw the familiar set features of the volleyball vice-captain, with a towel slung around his neck and a bottle in his hand. He coloured as he saw you, and you averted your eyes before speaking, “Iwaizumi-san, I was ask—”
“Y/N-chan, what brings you here?” a cheerful voice spoke behind Iwaizumi and you didn’t have to look up to see who it was. You smiled as Oikawa came to stand beside Iwaizumi, a bottle in his hand as well. You however, failed to see the darkened brow of Iwaizumi, a pained look flashing in his eyes as he looked from the one to the other.
“Are you here to cheer me on?” Oikawa playfully asked you as you only shook your head, a small smile gracing your lips.
“Oh come on, you don’t ha—” He paused very much like how Iwaizumi had in the morning, but then he laughed awkwardly and resumed with an assumed lightness, “Why Y/N-chan, what a naughty little thing you are! Walking around with a hickey in plain sight for all to see! You’ll be setting a bad example for our kouhai!” Oikawa’s cheeks were tinted with a deep blush as he said this and he stood swaying on his heels, stealing awkward glances at you.
Your face was on fire as you vigorously repealed the charge, “Whatever in the world are you talking about?! It’s not true!”
Oikawa smiled sheepishly and pointed at his neck by way of showing where you bore the mark. Your hand flew to your neck and covered the spot that supposedly had the hickey, which action caused an involuntary gasp to escape from Iwaizumi’s lips. Oikawa had sufficiently recovered himself by now to eye the two of you knowingly and add, “Don’t tell me it was Iwa-chan who gave it you.”
He was promptly rewarded for his insolence with a sharp rap at the back of his head, and Oikawa had tears in his eyes as he weakly protested, “It was just a joke Iwa-chan.”
Iwaizumi was breathing heavily and his hands trembled as he willed himself with an herculean effort to preserve a semblance of nonchalance, aside from the just anger against Oikawa’s thoughtless words. But his feelings showed in his looks and gestures, and only your embarrassment prevented you from seeing how things stood with him.
“Oikawa-san, Iwaizumi-san, please stop,” you interjected quietly, your heart beating thick and your cheeks burning. “It really isn’t what you think!”
Both of them fixed their eyes on you and you gulped as you continued, “I-It’s nothing like that! I was bitten by a bug when I was studying yesterday and-and it left a mark. It really was a bug, believe me,” you looked Iwaizumi straight in the eye as you said this, a pleading conviction shining in your irises.
Iwaizumi, blushing to the roots of his hair, now stood staring at his shoes and clutching the bottle in his hand. Oikawa stared you down with an amused smile, and after letting you look on in anxious anticipation for a while, said, “You had me scared for a while there Y/N-chan! But I’m glad that mistakes have been cleared up; I mean, Iwa-chan has been playing stiff all the afternoon and now I kno—” He stopped midway as he caught Iwaizumi’s angry glare and bidding you a hasty adieu, he practically fled into the gym.
Iwaizumi breathed a sigh of relief as Oikawa left the two of you alone, but he was still embarrassed and uncertain, and he stood scratching the back of his neck with a diffident hand, unsure how to begin. But then you came forward and wordlessly handed him the assignment and made to leave. However, Iwaizumi was quick enough to retain you by catching your wrist, but when you turned your shy and surprised countenance at him, he immediately dropped your hand and stumbled in his words, “I-I’m sorry.”
You looked at him askance while he kept looking at his feet as he talked, “I’m sorry, I… I’ve been acting like a fool and I—”
He raised his eyes to your face when he heard you laugh, and a wave of happiness flecked with butterflies surged within him as you shyly beamed, “It’s okay Iwaizumi-san, I’d be concerned too if I’d thought you had something like that on you.”
Iwaizumi felt like his heart would beat out of his chest and his face combust as he heard you speak thus, but he took heart and ventured in a shy tremor, “Can I buy you ramen to make up for it?”
You only nodded, too overwhelmed to articulate a response.
Iwaizumi visibly brightened and added with a smile that threatened to grow too wide, “Th-Then I’ll come by after practise. I mean, your club will be done by then as well, right?”
“Yes, that’ll do,” you responded with a smile that you could not suppress.
“I’ll take mine with soy sauce!” “I want pork!” “Chicken and mushrooms for me!”
A chorus rang out from the gym and you could see the third years laughing at the door, Oikawa in particular trying to stifle his laughter, but failing miserably at it. Iwaizumi burst this time and he bolted after Oikawa, who took a turn about the gym shouting all the while that it was unfair of Iwa-chan to only threaten him when there were others laughing too, adding immensely to the others' mirth. You quietly slipped away and headed to your class, heart fluttering and your legs buoyant in every step.
You halted your skipping step just outside the classroom – had you killed the bug that bit you? No, of course you had thrown it out the window.

Need y’all to know that in the 1970’s a letter to the editor was published in Daily Telegraph where the author offhandedly used the phrase “Tolkien-like gloom” to describe an area with barren trees and JRRT himself wrote back an incensed rebuttal at the use of his name in a context that suggested anything negative about trees.

ABSTRACTIONS
Hurt/Comfort, self doubts, second thoughts, a pinch of angst.
Ft. Kita Shinsuke, Akaashi Keiji, Sugawara Koushi, Iwaizumi Hajime, Kozume Kenma.
Tendou's part
Lacuna: Kita Shinsuke
"What's with you and Kita? Are you guys dating?"
"He seems different when he's with you. You guys definitely have something going on."
You ran a hand along your face and sighed, these words echoing in your mind with a loud ring. You and Kita had weathered only a season or two under the umbrella of familiarity and everyone around you was already intent upon blowing it away. You were angry at their intrusion but at the same time, you were afraid that it would make things strange and awkward between the two of you. You called him a friend but there were certain things that eluded and even mocked that description. And you didn't want such silly whisperings to tarnish an attachment that had become so dear.
"Avoiding me won't fix anything."
Startled at the abrupt interruption of your thoughts, you cast a rather incredulous look at the figure standing directly behind you.
"Why did you scare me like that?!" you accused, ignoring his question.
"My apologies," Kita returned, quietly moving to come and sit beside you.
When you avoided his eyes and refused a reply even after a considerable silence, he spoke, "I know you're affected by everyone talking about us."
You swallowed, a strange uneasiness beginning to rise in the pit of your stomach. This was the moment you had been dreading, the moment where you had to see for yourself where you stood with him. You couldn't hide behind ambiguity anymore and you were absolutely terrified.
He waited for a response but when he got none, he added without betraying the least emotion, "If you ask me, I find this need to name and confine everything within words a little ridiculous."
You blinked at him, not quite getting his purport.
He went on, "I've heard people say all sorts of things about us — friends, lovers, bodies that warm each other. But none of that really matters. The bond that we have Y/N, is too profound and precious to ever be understood by others or conveyed by words. What need have we of getting caught in the terminology of the world when we have something so beautiful? Let them talk; we'll be what we are."
Donning the softest of smiles, he reached for your hand and warmly pressed it, saying, "We'll be alright. After all, we have each other, don't we?"
Kita was glad to see a rosy smile blossom on your lips, the transition from your frozen and anxious state of only moments ago bringing him great relief. And he couldn't keep himself from placing a lingering kiss on top of your head, perhaps with all the love that he felt, that was brimming from his joyful heart.
And as you felt his warm affection engulf you with that meaningful kiss, you knew how baseless your anxieties had been. You didn't need to justify your relationship to anybody; the feeling in your respective hearts was enough.
Life-in-Death: Akaashi Keiji
"Are you okay Y/N?"
You withdrew your wistful gaze from the withering roses clustered beneath the grey walls and looked at him.
A half-hearted smile crossed your lips as you replied, "Y-yeah. I'm fine."
"Y/N," he reached for your hand, clasping it in his own, "you don't have to lie to me. I know something is bothering you."
You bit your lip, uncertainty momentarily clouding your mind. But then you felt a warm press of his hand on your own, a reassuring smile following this little but intimate gesture. Yours that came after was touched with a subtle but moving sentiment, having discerned the concern and worry swirling in his irids.
"It's just a silly thought Keiji," you mused, shaking your head dismissively.
"If you're willing to talk about it, I'm here," he voiced his assurance this time, gliding his thumb over your hand.
"It's just... " you trailed off, your eyes finding the roses again. "I've just been thinking you know... about the inevitable decay of life. Everything will terminate in death and nothing we do will ever guard us against it. You and I, we're all going to turn to dust someday, never to walk hand in hand in the dusk, never to dance in the rain, never to exist and love each other. Everything that we've been through seems like for nought; this ultimate end overwhelms with its tragic sensibility and I feel helpless."
You shut your eyes in consternation, a hollow breath issuing from your lips. But a touch of loving tenderness lighted on your chin to disperse the stormy clouds, making you look up at those eyes that always held sweet affection for you.
"I know it's tragic that death swallows all but do you not think life becomes all the more beautiful because of it? Transience reminds us to love and live all the more, to cherish life as we have it. And look at it this way - we only die because we have lived, because we were fortunate enough to have existed against an infinite number of odds. Death is an end rendered possible only by the existence of life itself and I do not see any absurdity in the moments we have shared and will continue to share. After all, I got the chance to be with you and I am nothing but grateful. And I would die a thousand deaths if it meant to have you, even for the briefest spell."
Silent awe and love was all that you felt as Akaashi proceeded to engulf you in his arms, placing soft kisses to your temple.
You nestled more closely against him while a smile of soft poignancy ghosted over your lips.
It was impossible to altogether forget the fear that assailed you but it was reassuring nonetheless; Akaashi was with you and you would savour life with him while it lasted. And perhaps you would find him again after the end, to share and behold new horizons, with new feelings of love and wonder.
A Beautiful Present: Sugawara Koushi
"What's up with you today Y/N? You've been awfully quiet."
You stopped mindlessly swinging your hand laced with Sugawara's and turned, only to meet his eyes worriedly peering at you.
You quickly looked away and shook your head, saying, "It's nothing really. I was just lost in thought."
He pouted. "You don't have to talk if you don't want to Y/N but you shouldn't blatantly lie like that."
"I'm sorry," you breathed, closing your eyes.
Suddenly, you felt a warm touch cradling your cheek and making you look up to meet irids of gentle solicitude. "There's no need for you to say that. And you do know that you can tell me anything right?"
There was something heartwarming and candid in this statement that you immediately resigned all resistance.
Clasping his hand that caressed your cheek, you said, "I don't really know how to express myself but I... I care about you very much. Since the day I chose to intertwine my route with yours, I have been exhilarated with wonder and happiness. But I am also constantly afraid of what comes next, of the possibility of coming to a standstill. What if we decide to follow different paths and lose everything that we shared and hoped for? What if, we cease to care?"
The last part was spoken barely above a whisper, your words almost conquered in voicing the recurring nightmare.
A moment of silence followed your rather tremulous outpouring before it was interrupted by a breezy laugh. You sent Suga a weak glare, more hurt than annoyed by his reaction.
"You are so funny Y/N!" he flicked your forehead, countering your expression with a seriousness that you had never seen before.
Putting his hands on your shoulders and staring straight into your eyes, he stated, "I know where you're coming from Y/N but hear me out. Precisely because the future is uncertain, the present is all that we need. I have never felt like this for anyone before and that's why I'm not going to give up. What happens in the next moment is beyond us so we have to make the best use of the now. As long as we have the present, we will have a chance in the future. And besides, don't think that I will let you go so easily, that I won't hold on to you with the entirety of my being."
You could not suppress the delight that burst within you, manifesting itself in your colourful and dewy laughter.
You could not see the future because it was seemingly surrounded by incomprehensible darkness and dread. But since you would always have the present, you could work to strike a light and behold its true being.
Sugawara carefully enfolded you, feeling his own heart smile in seeing you thus. And you held on to him with a steadfast feeling, now knowing that this moment was all you needed to behold.
Eidolon: Iwaizumi Hajime
"Oi Y/N, snap out of it!"
You started as Iwaizumi's voice suddenly interrupted your inner spiral of thought, your feet halting as you mechanically turned to him.
Iwa raised a brow in consternation as he contemplated your dazed expression, your lustreless eyes practically unseeing his searching ones.
"I've been talking to you and you neither hear nor perceive."
When you only managed to proffer a forced smile, Iwaizumi put a firm and protective hold on your shoulders and mouthed, "What did that Shittykawa do this time? I'm going to beat the living daylights out of him."
You chuckled as he spoke and a small smile eased onto his lips. Holding a hand to your cheek, he gently reminded, "You know that you have no reason to keep anything from me."
The candour in his words warmed you and you leaned into his touch, feeling your leaden heart lighten just a little.
Meeting his eyes with some awkward diffidence, you said, "Remember how I distanced myself from you and when you tried to confront me, I still found reasons to avoid you?"
He affirmed with a nod, also a silent nudge for you to continue.
You sharply exhaled. "I was running away from you... because I was afraid."
A pause ensued as you cast your eyes to the floor. "I knew I was falling for you Iwa so I tried my best to overcome it. I've been hurt in the past so I didn't want to go through all that pain again. But when you stood with your heart before me, I stopped struggling. And indeed, that's the best thing I've ever done. But sometimes, I feel that what we share is too good to be true and that it'll shatter someday to lacerate us both, leaving only bitterness in its wake."
Your heart beat quickened as you were suddenly struck with the same fear that crippled you before. "I'm–I'm sorry Iwa, I—"
"You have nothing to be sorry for," he cut in with so much conviction that you were taken by surprise.
Peering into your eyes, he asserted, "We all tend to dwell on the past sometimes Y/N but that doesn't mean we'll let it eclipse the present. The then has already taken leave, is gone, has passed away. It may have been hard for you but now you have a chance to do things right, to be happy. I know it's not possible to completely forget the past but you just have to know that bygones can never mar your present and that you are strong enough to accomplish anything. It maybe hard to let things go but you still have to keep trying. You are here after all and you should be proud of yourself, just as I am."
He drew back a little and reproachfully pouted, "And besides, do you really think that I can hurt you?"
He sounded dreadfully hurt so you quickly shook your head to state otherwise.
He immediately relaxed into a gentle smile and softly remarked, "Now why don't you give me one of those blinding smiles that always sets my heart aflutter, hm?"
Yours was the one that fluttered as you obliged, exhilaration overflowing the seams of your being as you threw your arms about him. Meanwhile, his heart was in a similar predicament to finally see a genuine smile on your face and he wholeheartedly returned the embrace.
Indeed, the past could assume a dark form sometimes but it was a mere shadow that couldn't touch you, unless you let it. And since Iwa was beside you, you could not go anywhere but forward.
Ataraxia: Kozume Kenma
"Kenma?"
"Hmm?"
He responded without looking up from his game and you bit your lip, darting your gaze to the floor.
"Y/N," he softly called, even though his eyes were still glued to the device in his hand, "I'm listening."
Your eyes dimmed just a little as a pensive smile curled up your lips. "I don't think you should be with me."
Kenma started, almost dropping his device. He slowly turned to look at you with shock and terror, freezing in that moment. You refused to meet his eyes while you played with the clasp of the bracelet he had given you. After a few moments of agonising silence, you spoke in a downtrodden voice.
"I was afraid when I realised I was falling for you, I was afraid when you were confessing to me, and I was afraid even when I accepted it. I love you Kenma and nothing will ever change that. But I often feel that I hold you back, drag you down into the depths. You deserve so much better you know? You should be with someone who will show you the flowers and the moon and the stars! I couldn't possibly give you even a drop of the ocean that is so vast and brilliant and full of wonders. I'm afraid that all I've been is a shadow that only keeps you from the light."
You suddenly felt your heart sink as you worded your deeply buried anxieties, a sense of dread coming over you. Now that you had uttered those terrible thoughts, what if Kenma did break things off? You only wanted the best for him but if he really did so, you would be beyond heart broken.
You heard him sigh heavily and you held your breath, anticipating the worst. But he merely slid towards you until he was closely nestled against your side. Resting his head on your shoulder, he said, "For someone as incredible as you, you sure are dumb sometimes."
Offended, you gave him a flickering dirty side glance.
Without being affected in the least, he passively went on, "You are perfect just the way you are Y/N so don't you dare talk about yourself like that. I don't need or want anyone else. We all feel like we're not good enough sometimes and no matter what, we'll never make it. But just because we feel like it, doesn't mean that it's true. I doubt myself too but I've never doubted us Y/N. You'll find a way out of that seemingly endless darkness because you are strong; you just have to believe in your own strengths. You've supported me in my darkest days and I'll do the same for you. Things won't always be mellow and filled with sunshine but I know we'll be okay. Because we have love and love will always find a way, just like you always make progress in a game no matter how hard the level is. And since there's always a new level with new challenges to overcome, we'll deal with the new adversities together."
He smiled as he carefully held your cheek with his hand and leant his forehead against yours, a silent act of reassurance and the word of a faithful promise. And you clearly discerned the truth of his words in this simple gesture, and it dispelled the shadows enveloping you.
He closed his eyes as he settled his head back on your shoulder and quietly remarked, "I wish I could stay like this with you forever Y/N."
Something warm sprung and flowed from your heart as you perceived a tranquil contentment wash over him. Your lips curled into a smile soft and genuine, as you placed your head on top of his and closed your eyes.
Being overcome by doubts and giving up what you have was not really a sacrifice; it was only a way of escape, of deserting before being deserted. But the willingness to keep trying was what mattered, and true courage was to keep hoping and striving. In a world of uncertainties, you would navigate your way with Kenma, without ever being riddled by the fear of certainty.

A Period Romance
Regency AU :) Ft. Captains
The Baron, Sir Oikawa Tōru
"My my, doesn't this night seem straight out of the romance novels that you devour so much my dear?" the young baron remarked as he gestured at the woods gleaming under the light of the moon with his free hand, his other being engaged in holding yours.
"Not to seem disagreeable but as far as I can remember, most of your library is occupied by romance novels, bought almost as soon as they took to print," you smiled up at him innocently, although your eyes twinkled with decided victory.
"Psha!" he exclaimed with a peevish toss of his head which caused you to break into a small laugh.
"Why is it so cold all of a sudden?" he pouted, tilting his head to rub his ear on his shoulder.
"It is the start of November after all. And besides, you bid the carriage away for a 'midnight promenade under the bowers of the moon' so you have no room to complain," you mimicked the latter part with perfect accuracy, which led him to flick your nose and then stick out his tongue.
"You're such a child!"
"Oh my, you look so cold my dearie! How can I call myself a gentleman if I do not offer my lovely companion the warmth of my greatcoat!" he suddenly ejaculated and began taking off his coat, causing you to raise a brow. Of course he would revert to the classic manoeuvre about the change in weather to change the course of the conversation.
"I am bundled up enough to last the blasts of January. I don't need that," you pointed out with your hands on your hips. But you knew it was a vain effort; after all, when had he ever listened to you in matters where his fancy took flight?
Before long, he was jovially wrapping you in his coat while ignoring your weary arguments, until you gave up and ceased speaking.
Once again overlooking the unamused look you directed at him, he casually drew forth his most effective weapon to completely disarm you — his very very pretty smile. You folded your arms and turned away but he followed suit, catching you every time you turned a different direction.
"Dance with me my cherub, dance until dawn breaks! Let our feet leave the ground and take us among the stars!" He proceeded to hold you like he had done countless times in performing the waltz, pulling your reluctant hand to his shoulder.
You conceded with a giggle, his charm completely winning you over. Encumbered by your garments, your movements were not so graceful as you wanted, but that very thing made it all the more endearing to him. You moved about for a while in each other's embrace, all else forgotten in the bliss of togetherness. Until the wind decided to remind you both how silly it all was in such unfavourable temperatures.
The baron sneezed and I am afraid he did so in your face, earning his chest a volley of light assaults from your fists. But when he apologised and cleaned your face with his sleeve, he was forgiven and even rewarded — with sweet sweet kisses from his cherub that warmed him very well.
Professor Ushijima Wakatoshi
You put your book down and smiled warmly as the large figure of the celebrated professor appeared at the door and noiselessly stepped into the study. He returned your smile with a small one of his own, his drooping shoulders immediately straightening upon seeing you. He fell on the easy chair set before the cheerful hearth and put his hand out to you by way of invitation, his eyes soft and entreating.
You shook your head in mild amusement but got up nevertheless, lightly skipping to the chair and sitting on his knee. Large and loving arms immediately took up their position about your waist and pulled you closer, a contented sigh leaving his lips once you were firmly pressed to him. You garlanded his neck with your arms and giggled when he kissed your nose.
"Seems like the professor had some trouble at the establishment today," you teased, laughing as he groaned in confirmation.
He shifted, nestling his head on the nape of your neck while you rested your cheek on the top of his head. You gently began to thread your fingers through his hair which elicited a satisfied hum from his lips followed by a kiss on your collarbone.
"How did you fare my love?" his disinterested tone would cause anyone else to think him a hypocrite but you knew well how genuine his query was.
"Well, to begin with, my pupils were on their best behaviour today because of the picnic I promised them tomorrow. But sir, I can add with conviction that they are a lot better than your boys even at their worst," you concluded, a triumphant grin plastered on your face.
"I cannot argue with that. But I also must state that it's because their mistress perfectly makes up for them as a minx herself," his usual monotone was tinged with stifled gaiety and you gasped with exaggerated disbelief, playfully hitting his shoulder as a means of remonstration.
"You are a naughty one yourself sir!" you chastised in mock gravity, pouting a little.
He caught your hand that hit him and brought it to his cheek, remarking, "You think I'm a naughty one? Well, I will be good for you then."
"Don't be silly! You are perfect just the way you are," you scolded, pulling back a little.
His eyes irradiated pure adoration as he pulled you close again, enveloping you in warmth with a loving kiss.
The Country Gentleman, Mr. Kita Shinsuke
After walking arm in arm along the park grounds, you and your dear soul settled on a grassy knoll overlooking a lake of gold, glittering under the rays of the setting sun.
Dusk was your special hour, your sanctified moment to relish each other's presence after engaging in your respective tasks throughout the day, the hour of quiet and repose. However, he had not been able to indulge in this luxury for the past few days, being obliged to stay in town on account of some business. So when he returned home a few hours ago, he insisted upon taking your customary walk after tea, turning down your arguments about him needing to rest after such a long journey.
You sat in silence watching the retreating steps of the sun, a soft breeze playing with your hair and cheeks. He meanwhile sat back, inconspicuously admiring your visage lit by the fading colours of crimson and blue, his heart swelling with love and affection. The past five days had felt like years and he had yearned for the moment when he would finally be able to hold you and be with you again.
He slid towards you and wordlessly put an arm about your waist, pulling you closer until you were sate on his lap. Resting his chin on your shoulder, he leaned his head against yours and softly sighed.
"Is something wrong?" you questioned with concern, clasping your hands above his own resting on your stomach.
"I missed you," he quietly said, placing a soft kiss on your shoulder.
"Well, I missed you more," you remarked, turning to look at him with smiling and brilliant eyes that irradiated nothing but pure love.
The smallest of smiles found its way to his lips and he kissed you, very sweetly and very tenderly, silently promising eternal warmth and care.
Doctor Kuroo Tetsuro
You heard the creaking of the floor boards as you sat hunched over the epistle you had been writing, followed by the sound of the hinges turning and the door opening.
"Ah, my dearest darling sat up to wait for this particularly charming doctor on this dreary night?! How awfully thoughtful! I already feel the fatigues of my excursion dissipating like the mists after it rains!"
You clenched the quill in your hand and grit your teeth but continued with your occupation coolly, refusing to acknowledge the man prattling before you.
You heard him chuckle as he walked towards you and you saw his shadow pass you from the corner of your eyes. Still persistent in your refusal to look at him, you yelped as you suddenly felt his arms around you, lifting you up effortlessly. He swiftly slid on your seat and pulled you into his lap. Caging you with his arms and supporting your back against his chest, he countered your indignant exclamations with a smug speech of his own.
"My my, looks like my little kitten has metamorphosed into a raging panther today."
You huffed, leaning toward the table with all your might and trying to wriggle out of his arms. But he moved forward with you, burying his nose in your hair and nuzzling your neck. You crossed your arms and pouted but didn't protest so he gently pulled you back with him to settle on the easy chair.
"Is my darling upset because this handsome doctor has been visiting the young lady of the Great Hall everyday since the past week and always at such late hours?" he spoke, placing soft kisses along your neck and shoulder.
"If you already know then why do you ask?" you retorted, your eyes flashing.
You felt his chest rumble as a throaty laugh escaped his lips. Angry words rose in yours as a consequence but before you could spit them out, a tender hand touched your cheek and made you look at your perpetrator.
"You know that I am in love with you. And you know that you've had my heart since the day I first saw you," he captured your lips with his own after this candid confession, affection brimming in that meaningful kiss.
But then his love was bested by his desire to rile you up.
"I ought to admit however, that the lady in question has a pair of notably brilliant eyes."
And he was back to square one.
Magistrate Sawamura Daichi
You paced the length of the gazebo with your hands behind your back, silently launching a tirade against the downpour raging around you.
You finally stopped on your tracks and resolutely glared at the rain. "This will never do. I will brave this storm to get back."
Just as you made ready to run, a familiar voice called to you from the side. "I knew you were going to do this. First forbid the servants from accompanying you, then step out without an umbrella even though it is the middle of the rainy season and then fret in the gazebo until you get tired of waiting and go dashing out in the rain."
"Well you don't have to be so particular," you grumbled, watching him round the corner and step inside and put his umbrella against the wall.
You pouted as the magistrate came forward and pecked your forehead.
"Aren't you happy to see me?" There was a teasing note in his voice, even though his countenance seemed perfectly innocent. The audacity!
"All you know is to get on my nerves. Can't you be a dearie for once and behave? And besides, I came out to pick some herbs so that I could make you that special brew," you stated, turning away with a flash of hurt in your eyes.
"Oh forgive me dear one! You know that I didn't mean to hurt you!" He was immediately by your side, lavishing caresses and entreaties and asking for forgiveness a thousand times. And once again, victory was yours!
You relented after a while, feeling somewhat guilty for making him grovel like that. He rejoiced at the change and placed fluttering kisses all over your face, making you giggle.
"I've got something for my precious flower today," he said, bumping your nose with his own.
"I hope it isn't one of those feathered hats that make me look like a chicken," you remarked, shuddering at the mere thought of having to wear one.
"Trust me, you'll like this one," he smiled, pecking your lips.
"Did you get those strawberries from the Green Farm?!" your eyes twinkled with delight.
"No. Just some fresh mint."
And with that you were chasing him around screaming murder while he barely dodged, crippled as he was with laughter.
Major Bokuto Koutaro
"So what say you? Care to join this fair and ravishing gentleman for a dance?"
You rolled your eyes at the Major on his knee before you but acquiesced nonetheless, placing your hand on his proffered one. Very elegantly lapping you in his arms, he seamlessly led you to the centre of the room and recommenced the waltz with refined grace.
"How many times are you going to ask me to dance? We've been at it all night and it's almost morning," you pointed out with a very unamused countenance, perched as you were on the threshold of fatigue and drowsiness.
"Until dawn breaks and the music lasts!" he burst enthusiastically, pulling you closer.
"For your kind information, the party has already broken off and there is no music, and as I've already said, it's almost daylight," you drolled, dragging your feet.
"Today's celebration was a great success. But you know what was the most brilliant and outstanding aspect of all? You," he remarked, gazing at you with fondness and adoration.
"Flattery will get you nowhere," you replied, dropping your eyes to his chest as your heart tingled and swelled.
He brought a hand to your cheek and made you look at him, a smile lining his lips. "It's true."
You buried your face in his chest and he embraced you with both arms again, laughing at your flustered state. "Hey, hey, hey! You sure do look like one who is having an intrigue with another's husband!"
You glared at him as he said this and he returned a cheeky smile, twirling you around. As you halted at the end of your spin, he took to gently swaying you.
"Dancing with you during the party was incredible! All eyes admired you dearest, and we were the brightest stars in the sea of petticoats and coats," he added, his eyes sparkling with delight and excitement. Then however, his eyes softened and he placed a loving kiss on your forehead, saying, "But I like this better. Just the two of us dancing in peace, to the music of our own hearts, even though our feet feel like they will give way under us. Don't you think so?"
"Don't you always like large parties with a great many guests? What has turned the tide in favour of a solitary dance?" you questioned, peering up at him with a raised brow.
"Why of course because I love you more than anything else in this world," he replied, rather incredulous that you would ask him something so evident.
Your dear Major was always full of surprises. You fell back in his arms and stayed there, too moved to speak or do anything else. He gently lifted you after staying like that for a while, moving towards the sofa and settling there.
"You know, I always felt that I was lacking something, even when I distinguished myself in battles and tasted victory," he wistfully said, and you allowed his tendency to boast pass for once. You were too tired to indulge in his histories and pull him back from drowning in his own remberances.
"But then," he added, lifting your chin with his finger and taking you by surprise, "I met you and knew what it was."
Before you could respond, he sealed your lips with a deep kiss that conveyed the truth of his statement. Then concerns and exertions were all forgotten, the lack of a proper repose become trivial and the fatigues welcome, as this most tender kiss lighted your whole being.

COLOURS
Tendou Satori x Reader
Hurt/comfort
Something was amiss. The light hearted banter that the two of you usually exchanged was replaced by a silence that stretched on and on. You merely walked on, oblivious to the scrutiny subjected by Tendō. He had been gauging your expressions all the while to get a read on you but it seemed useless so far.
He abruptly caught your shoulders, giving up his guessing game. "Woah Y/N. I'm going to stop you right there. What are you doing?"
You blinked like one who has just woken up. "What do you mean?"
"Tut, tut, tut," he shook his head. "You have to spill whatever is bothering you. I can't let you walk around like this, all dazed and preoccupied! You're going to suffocate if you continue like this!"
Concern was evident in his eyes and you sighed weakly. "I'm sorry Satori. I just didn't want to bug you with the fleet of unnecessary thoughts that I harbour."
You received a kiss to your nose in return that made your cheeks warm and your heart warmer.
"You could never bug me. And besides, I do that all the time so it's only fair that you do it too."
You smiled at this, moving your hands to fumble with his tie.
"You know Satori, nobody likes me for who I am. People have always judged me and called me names, that usually varies according to their whims. I thought I didn't care about it but it seems that I was wrong. Somewhere along the way, I began moulding myself to suit the tastes of those around me and became the Y/N L/N that was utterly different from the real one."
You paused, looking at him rather shyly, "But then, you came along and swept me off my feet and I knew that I didn't want to pretend... at least, when I was with you. And now, I'm just... I'm terrified."
The latter part was a whisper, heavily laced with the weight of a sob.
Slender fingers gently lighted on your face and lifted it so that your downcast eyes met a pair of orbs filled to the brim with commingled sadness and affection.
"Are you scared that I'll part ways with you if I see how you really are? But Y/N, I'd already seen and fallen for the real you long before I had the courage to confess. I had seen you in the quiet of the library helping Wakatoshi study, I had seen you in the cafeteria glowing with every bite you took of your favourite food, and I saw you when you helped me pick myself up after I crumbled. And I love you because you're you. Truth is, you are the one who has accepted me for who I am, despite my flaws and eccentricities and I am beyond grateful to have you in my life."
Your lips quivered with a smile and he went to wrap his arms around you and hold you close, happy to see the light in your face return just a little.
With a flutter of kisses to your forehead, he firmly added, "You don't have to be anything else other than yourself Y/N. You're wonderful and amazing and absolutely brilliant. And I'll fight anyone who says otherwise."
You nodded in his chest, feeling warm and at home, as you slowly recognised the truth in his words. Abandoning yourself for the opinions of the flimsy masses only meant losing who you are and becoming a mindless head of that very throng. You were an individual, unique and different, and you would embrace your colours to stand against the collective grey, alongside a bright and colourful Tendō.

This piece is for the amazing @augustinewrites Simple Pleasures collab. Thank you so much for letting me join!
Kita Shinsuke x Reader
An entry from Kita's journal, penned during your absence from home due to work.
23.03.22
The wind that tells of the arrival of spring and the evening that sings of the lingering light, also whispers a name that is very, very dear to me —Y/N—my very own Y/N, the darling of my soul.
I often wonder, in the idle rushes of the afternoon and in the solemn hours of the night, about the utter and unbelievable fortune of my lot, as I get to spend my days with you. I know, you'll laugh and call me a sap for this but it is true; everybody considers me the perfect one but it is you alone dear one, who sees past this seemingly perfect sculpture to behold and accept the very human Kita Shinsuke, with all his imperfections.
I cannot really point with certainty how or why, but whenever I am with you, everything feels so much better and a peculiar sweetness fills my heart. This twilight that overhangs the firmament for example, seems ordinary and even bland, a state that will routinely return tomorrow and the day after and so on. But when you are here, a rapturous beauty pervades everything and the twilight becomes ethereal. I believe I have been mistaken all this while, for the beauty was not in nature, but in you.
Being able to gather you in my arms at this accustomed hour after my toils, forms the greatest pleasure of my life. If you ask me to describe how I precisely feel at this profound moment, I would come short of doing so. You see, words are nearly not enough to express my happiness in being able to do so and an attempt would only render it foolish. But dearest, the feeling remains, as intimate and sublime as ever, akin to both our hearts and engulfing only us two.
Yesterday, the moon was a crescent beauty and you were warmly nestled against me, and the cherry blossoms fluttering in the breeze sought to capture us with a marvellous show of pageantry. As I looked into your eyes that mirrored the silver moon, I was filled with wonder — I kissed you then, wanting to convince myself that I was not in a distant land of dreams, led thither by the fumbling hand of sleep. But it was not so, for I could taste the sweet nectar of your lips and feel the beating of your own heart against mine. You will laugh again I'm sure, but I will say this nonetheless — even the ambrosia of the gods could not be more sweeter than the elixir divined from your lips.
A forlorn bird serenades the night as I write this and a melancholy fervour seeps out of its song, that by degrees has affected me. Since you are away, such little things are quick to disquiet my heart. But now I recall how you came to help me in the fields the other day and I cannot help but laugh, since you failed at it quite miserably. We were both exhausted and splattered with mud by the evening, but you never looked more beautiful; the circlet of leaves that I hastily drew over your brow so becoming your shining eyes and bright smile. I couldn't help but kiss you and even though you tasted a bit like mud, it lives in my memory as one of the sweetest kisses we've ever shared.
I am a man of consistency, and my methodical habits make me take things as they usually appear, without perceiving anything extraordinary underneath them. But even as you defied every bit of my constricted self to seamlessly find me, I found the little bits of succour in everyday things through you. Instead of keeping at the mindless repetition of acknowledgements, a genuine delight becomes in drinking tea in the afternoon, in eating my meals in the arbour, and in tilling and tending to the earth. And as the night falls darkling asunder, I say I love you.
The simple and honest truth is, I love you. I know I don't say it often but I am full of it, overflowing with it. My darling Y/N, I love you. Life is so painfully short that we shouldn't be anything but kind and affectionate and yet, we still get caught, and wilfully too, in petty and unimportant things, to hurt and wound. But I want to love and I want to love wholeheartedly, so that my love will last you all and beyond eternity.
So my heart, let us continue to go forward like we have been doing for the past seven years, dancing and delighting, laughing and stumbling, sometimes weeping, but always loving. After all, what have we to do with riches or adventures or glory, when we can savour the sweetness of ordinariness? The skies, the fields, our home, grandma, our garden, our cats, and you –my dearest and most loving Y/N– is what paradise must be like; to me at least, it is.
I kiss you goodnight through the portal of dreams.

FALSE ALARM
Aone x Reader
Warnings: None
You breathlessly looked around, desperate to find even a tiny space where you could squeeze yourself in and relieve your very tired legs. But of course, your attempts were of no use, seeing as the compartment was close to bursting with the flood of people occupying it.
However, you had been purposefully avoiding the possibility of a very painful alternative — to take either of the empty seats right in front you.
You weren't ignorant as to why the oases of the seats were untouched in this desert of packing bodies and you were not curious to venture either. But today you were exhausted, and if you weren't quick to find a place to sit, it wouldn't be long before your legs would give way.
You rallied all the courage that you possessed and moved forward, tentatively sitting down on the one closest to the door, without looking at the terror beside you that kept everyone away. Regardless, your legs seemed happy with the transition and you couldn't help the sigh of relief escape your lips.
But this little action on your part seemed to arouse the giant at your side, who had hitherto been frozen and mindless of your movements. You could feel his icy glare on you and you gulped, clutching your bag in anticipation of something terrible.
He moved and you held your breath. But when nothing happened, you slowly turned to assess the situation. He had merely shifted to make more space for you so that you could sit back more comfortably.
You met his eyes then and you saw surprise but also the remnant of a smile on his face, polite and reassuring. You returned his smile, albeit a sheepish one, but you settled more comfortably into your seat, feeling more light.
Now that you were seated, you reflected on your earlier fears with incredulity and embarrassment. Even though the person sitting beside you was rather scary and intimidating to look at, there was nothing wrong with him and it was only your overworked brain that had imparted a horrific colour to his self. Your train schedules overlapped almost everyday but you had never had any occasion to talk to him and yet, you had been quick to judge him.
Feeling the need to repair the wrong, you began with the customary palliative, "The weather is very fine today, isn't it?"
He stared at you without speaking and you began to fall to pieces, internally cursing yourself for talking in the first place. After what felt like an eternity of painful silence, he grunted and you immediately retreated with a quick smile, finally relieved to find a respite.
The rest of the ride passed on without any significant developments, the initial awkwardness that you felt dissipating as the train flew from station to station. Your companion seemed like someone who wasn't inclined toward conversation, and with time his taciturnity became rather enjoyable — after all, a loud chatter box was the last thing you wanted to meet when you were on the verge of drifting away at the end of a particularly gruelling day.
You finally arrived at your stop and you got down without regarding the person you had shared the ride with, taking your earlier lesson to heart. You stretched yourself once you reached a less crowded place on the platform, happy to have lived through that arduous jungle of congested phantoms.
As you turned to head to the exit, you froze; from the corner of your eye, you caught sight of the large frame and the mop of white of your fellow passenger that you had just left behind on the train!
He was undoubtedly making his way towards you but instead of running away as you intended to, your legs refused to move and you stood fixed like a petrified statue.
He towered over you without saying a word and you simply stared, your mind drawing a complete blank. But then he gestured with his hand and you mechanically looked at it to find a familiar blue peeking at you. You did a double take only to see that this nice gentleman was holding your handkerchief that you must have been careless enough to drop and was only here to give it to you.
You laughed sheepishly as you took it, your face growing hot due to embarrassment and guilt; you had let your imagination overpower you again and you felt terrible.
"Thank you for bringing this uh... " you trailed off, awkwardly waving the handkerchief around.
"Aone."
He supplied this time and you smiled more freely, "Thank you Aone."
A faint stroke of scarlet appeared on his cheeks and he slightly bowed, his lips upturned to form a small smile.
"So uh, you missed the train because of me," you added, feeling bad firstly for judging him for his appearance and secondly, for the aforementioned reason. "Can I do anything to make up for it?"
He blinked a few times before shyly glancing at his feet, "Would you please consider sitting next to me tomorrow as well?"
