johnny knew that minnie had been plenty busy. rebranding the group was no small task, and the work that his girlfriend had been putting into it was well worth it. still, he hoped that the lack of time together recently hadn't put a strain on their relationship. he'd never acknowledge it, but minnie had been moody the last few times they saw each other, and he hoped he hadn't done something to mess things up between them (again).

the first text didn't phase the dancer. he could wait 5 minutes. he sent a quick 'ok' back and pulled up instagram while he waited. somewhere between proposal inspo videos, another text from minnie asking for more time.

johnny: take all the time you need

he shrugged off the delay and turned back to his research doom scrolling, but the time that minnie had asked for had come and gone before too long, and still no sign of his girlfriend. given the time, most of the restaurants would start closing soon. he knew that any number of things could be holding minnie up, but given that he only had a few eggs and an orange in his fridge, he needed to come up with a plan to feed minnie something better than convenience store snacks.

maybe i should go pick something up and come back? it had been 30 minutes and still no sign of minnie.

johnny: eta? i can go pick up some food and come back if that works better for you

an exhausting day made for an upset minnie. she struggled keeping food in her stomach for the majority of the evening and her mood was short with others. disagreements about her upcoming schedule and her body not wanting to cooperate. she figured it was due to her workload and her cycle being out of whack. nothing too suspicious when minnie struggled when work got this way. longer days, shorter breaks, new people to meet, lyrics to memorize.. - it was too much to her body that it flipped her days, making it difficult to track her period cycle.

the first smile of the day seemed to be when johnny texted her. suddenly her mood shifted from the cranky one back into her bubbly self.

minnie: give me another 5 🤍

minnie rushes in getting her items together now that she longs to be in the arms of johnny instead of listening to another lecture. "i'll see you guys tomorrow." she tells her team, slipping her phone into her purse when she hurries out but not before her stomach feels like it's churning again.

minnie: give me 20?

minnie shoots johnny another text before she rushed into the restroom.

johnny sat impatiently in his car outside the CUBE building, waiting for minnie to finish up so he could bring her back to his apartment. a lot had been on his mind over the past few weeks, but one thought that kept returning was that he wanted to take the next step with minnie. life without her had proven miserable, and he didn't want to be without her again. and so he set an appointment at the tiffany store and, (with a lot of help from lisa) picked out a ring he hoped would be good enough to get a 'yes' to the world's scariest question.

will you marry me?

he wasn't ready just yet to pop the question. he still needed to get a plan together. figure out the perfect way to do it. he only got one shot at this, after all. there was no chance that johnny was going to half-ass this. so tonight, he wanted to feel it out. see if minnie was in the mindset for marriage or wanting to wait. get ideas about what he should do to lead up to the proposal? dinner? a trip? would she want something intimate or a grand gesture? the dancer hoped tonight would give him the answers he needed to make the perfect proposal.

Johnny leans against the passenger side of the car as he waits for Minnie to come downstairs. Sunglasses perched on top of his head and sandals donned for their beach day. His gaze stayed on the door to the complex, ready to greet his date as soon as it opened.

Johnny: I’m at your door!

Johnny sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "Not really," he admitted. "This week has been too much... Kinda just want to disappear." The dancer was tired of the drama that had unfolded this past week, but things at the company showed no signs of stopping. For a moment, he considered whether he should open up to the leader. The two weren't particularly close, but Namjoon struck him as someone trustworthy. "Hyung... I think I need some advice. I screwed up with the girl I like and she gave me a second chance, but now I'm constantly worrying about screwing up again."

“another, please.” johnny pushed his empty glass back towards the bartender. it was nonstop chaos at the company lately, one of his closest friends turned out to be scum, and it seemed like nothing was going his way. he couldn’t recall how many drinks he’d had. he didn’t think it mattered. he was still pissed off about everything so it clearly wasn’t enough yet. he could picture his therapist, shaking her head in disappointment at his current state, but he decided that didn’t matter as much as he needed to get his mind off of everything right now. the sound of the stool beside him becoming occupied made him groan under his breath before turning to the new patron. “if anyone asks, you didn’t see me. i was never here.”

"Make that two," Johnny quickly adds to Wooseok's order. "Thanks hyung, I just... I can't deal with reality right now." He pushes his empty glass away, no longer useful to him without its sacred contents. His remark about easing up earns a smirk from the dancer. "One more won't hurt. So far, these bad boys are the only thing that don't suck recently." A wave of memories from meetings at the company inspired a groan, the younger man placing his head in his hands. "I think Minnie's going to dump me," he admits to the older. "I can't--I'm not good enough for her and she knows it. Her friends all hate me, not like I can blame them... isn't it just a matter of time before she decides I'm not worth her time anymore?"

The dancer couldn't help but smile at his senior's cheeky response. "A beer sounds great," he agreed. "Home from the base? How's enlistment going for you?" Given the chaos in his own life recently, Johnny was beyond grateful for the distraction of his senior. The two weren't familiar beyond interactions at music shows, but the dancer saw no reason to pass on a small gesture of kindness.

seonghwa was someone that johnny really only knew in passing. the younger idol was usually kind and soft-spoken around him, but they'd rarely conversed outside of music shows. still, he appreciated the younger man's discretion. "just... rough week." he managed to reply. the dancer didn't want to burden seonghwa with his problems when it was already public knowledge what had happened to his group recently. "i'm worried that the girl i'm in love with is always going to see me as the jerk who hurt her. i'm trying so damn hard to be good enough for her, and then this-" he couldn't even say what had happened with his former member. "-i'm scared of losing her again."
