his steps are heavy as he makes his way to the stairs -- notably, as he very well could hide his footsteps as much as the unknown in their movement -- taking easy strides up the stairs & into the projection room. johnny eyes the tapes, the window, the projection itself as it clicks along silently. his head comes up with multiple diagnoses. a hand reaches out to idly touch the projection, a soft hum escaping him.

❛ yeah, it sure is a beaut, ❜ johnny remarks, turning his head to where the unknown had wandered to, a shelf of reels. johnny opts to step away from the projector to join them, kneeling slightly to look through the lower shelves. a brow raises as he skims the titles.

some were a bit on the nose for some of those here. some seemed like the tales of old that parents tell their children of to get them to behave. it makes johnny chuckle to himself. johnny's fingers dance along the reels, plucking through them. one. two. three.

❛ these might be your style, y'know, based off the titles & shit, ❜ johnny comments, holding each one up for the unknown to observe. one about a killer at a summer camp. one about a creature in the woods. one that, to him, seemed like the classic scary movie -- of a masked killer stalking a babysitter. felt more like the horror of his own time, that one.

❛ some classic, standard stuff. usually the baseline frame of any sort of horror movie, really, ❜ johnny pauses, awaiting the unknown's response. ❛ if i'm readin' ya wrong, 's alright to tell me. can find somethin' else. ❜

The Unknown did not need inspiration. For all it was, for all the horror and dread its mere presence gave, and for how it hunted down those that dared to give it meaning, it had inspired. How many movies or books or any piece of media preyed upon that fear? Of the unknown? Of a stranger, unsee, inside the house or some foreign threat with no clear origin? It was horror itself, a monster born form the very psyche of humanity. All the terror, all the evil, all the violence. It liked to consume its prey and found that suited it well. Nothing left behind. No evidence. Just a mystery left in its wake and whispered explanations and murmured fears. Another missing hiker, another face on the milk carton.

Despite its reservations, the creature lurched forward on its mangled feet. It could be surprisingly quiet when it wished to be and each step is utterly silent. It follows after him, up the stairs, limping into the projector room. It's lined with shelves, stocked completely full of film reels. They're all dusty, untouched. The floor has old trash, empty drink cups and bags of snacks. Posters adorn the walls and some, too, are stuffed behind shelves. it's cluttered, but not impossible to move through. It knew the projector worked. It'd seen it work, at least when trials were running. The arcade nearby worked, too. All anything needed was just a little touch to get it started.

It seemed as if it didn't care. Instead it wanders over to one of the shelves, leaning its face close to the reels as if it's genuinely inspecting them, perhaps for the first time. Some of these movies were real and some were pulled from different realities. A movie about the Hillbilly, for example. Another about a shapeshifting creature in the arctic. Another about a masked killer stalking babysitters. Another about some creature in the woods. All manner of things.
