According to CNN Authorities in Singapore have seized one of the largest ever shipments of pangolin scales en route to Vietnam, worth an estimated $38.7 million. In a statement, customs officials said they inspected a 40-foot container passing through Singapore from Nigeria and labeled as "frozen beef." Inside was over 14 tons of pangolin scales, packed in 230 bags, along with almost 180 kilograms (around 400 pounds) of cut up and carved elephant ivory. . Fourteen tons is around the same weight as two to three African elephants, or around eight Toyota Camrys. With endless beaches and the lure of tradition, culture and non-stop relaxation, Bali is a dream destination for island lovers. . A scale-covered, cat-sized nocturnal mammal that survives on ants and termites, pangolin are among the most trafficked animals in the world. . In China and Vietnam, they are eaten as a delicacy and used in traditional medicine, with their keratin rich scales believed to have a host of positive benefits -- including aiding breastfeeding and curing asthma or cancer -- none of which is supported by science. .

14 People Confirmed Dead In The Clash Between Vigilantes And Armed Bandits In Katsina State

About 14 people has been confirmed dead as a result of the clash between vigilantes and armed bandits in Tsamiyat Jino village in Kankara local government of Katsina State. The clash was confirmed by the Katsina State Police Command through its spokesperson, SP Gambo Isah. According to Gambo, the vigilantes failed to heed to police advice and launched an attack on the bandits in their hideout. Speaking about the loss of lives, he said seven of the vigilantes and seven of the bandits were killed. “According to the reports received by the command, the incident started when members of the vigilante group decided to launch an attack on the bandits in their hideout (forest) killing seven of them and resultant of a fierce battle where the bandits also killed seven of the vigilante members. “Yansakai (volunteers) who went into the forest to fight the bandits refused to heed to police advice.” He added that “the bandits suffered casualties of the same number (7) which they have evacuated from the forest as reported by the DPO in the area”. As an actor, you can determine the fees you will charge for a movie. “When cable television was introduced, it drastically reduced the sales of movies because some of those movies were already being aired on TV. It is not a personality thing but the lack of structures in the industry. And see where it has brought us.” Speaking on the changes he would like to see in Nollywood, he said: “I have gone beyond that. I have stopped wishing Nollywood anything because I see that change is far. Some years ago, you could hear me say Nollywood was dying, but you will never hear me say that now. “I realised that whenever I tried to speak with people on how we could lift Nollywood higher, they didn’t do anything. Some of them are not even informed about what is going on in the industry. Now, it just seems like I am a noisemaker but I keep praying that God helps us in 2019.” He added: “Producers don’t make (as much) movies anymore; the issue of being poorly paid is out of it. In the event that this unfortunate circumstance should take place, call your bank immediately to freeze the affected accounts. The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, says his refinery will eliminate fuel scarcity and transform Nigeria’s economy for decades when it comes on stream. According to him, “The refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos State, is expected to produce 65.4m litres of Petrol (PMS), Diesel (AGO), Aviation jet fuel and Kerosene (DKP) daily, in huge volumes. “The petroleum products are planned to meet most of the needs of Nigeria, and the African continent, thus making life much easier for the people. “Already, the gains of the huge investments in the different sectors by Dangote have moved the nation’s economy forward and complimented government’s efforts in no small measure.” He further said the Group will continue to be the largest employer of labour in Nigeria, with hundreds of thousands direct and indirect employment opportunities. He noted that the rice mills established in some states including Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Enugu, Zamfara, Kano and Niger, will also ensure self-sufficient in rice production. “We are doing everything possible to ensure Nigeria moves from an importing country to an exporting country and we have succeeded in making Nigeria an exporter of cement and earning hard currencies for the country, and contributing in lifting the country from recession. “The feat is achievable because of the three Dangote Cement factories at Obajana in Kogi state, Gboko Cement Factory in Benue state and Ogun state, because they are not only producing enough cements for local consumption but also for export,” he said. Suicide Bomber Hits Maidugur 5 Confirmed Dead, 45 Injured.  A suicide bomb explosion has rocked the volatile city of Maiduguri sparking fear with several dead and injured. The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), on Sunday said five persons were killed and 45 others injured in a suicide bomb attack in the outskirts of Maiduguri. Mr Kachalla Usman, the Head of Emergency Response Operations of SEMA, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri. Usman said that two female suicide bombers detonated Improvised Explosives Device (IEDs) vests strapped to their bodies in a crowded place at Muna-Dalti area of Maiduguri on Saturday night. He said that three persons and two suicide bombers were killed, while 45 others sustained injuries in the blast. Usman added that two of the deceased died while on admission in the hospital. 1,400 Adamawa IDPs Face Starvation As A Result Of Boko Haram Attacks. No fewer than 1,400 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Fufore, Adamawa State, are lamenting severe food shortages in the camp, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. One of the leaders at an IDP camp in Fufore, Bakura Umar, said in Yola on Saturday that the National Emergency Management Agency had not supplied food to them in the last three months. However, an Operational Officer of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Abani Garki, dismissed claims of food shortages in the camp. But Umar said, “About 1,400 IDPs, mostly women, children and elderly people are facing starvation due to the acute food shortage in Fufore camp. “In the past three months, NEMA has not supplied food to the camp and we are facing hunger. Because of the situation, we have been going to Fufore town and other nearby villages to look for food in order to survive.” According to him, they have been in the camp since 2014 and that NEMA was giving them food items on a monthly basis. He added that the IDPs in the camp were from Bama, Gwoza and Gamboru Ngala in Borno State. Umar said they were brought to the camp from Cameroon where they fled to after Boko Haram overran their villages and towns in 2013. He appealed to the authorities concerned to come to their aid. Garki added that the agency “is aware of the delay in supplying food to the camp. But there is nothing like starvation in the camp. “In fact, the delay was not as they claimed because we experienced a short delay in food supply in January due to some logistic challenges which affected us in February and March. “The agency is trying all it can to ensure the IDPs are taken care of properly.” Read the full article

The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki has met with the Prime Minister of Qatar, His Excellency, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, in Doha. The number three citizen met with the Quatari PM on the sidelines on the ongoing Inter Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU) holding in Qatar.
