Happy Juneteenth!!! Also known as Jubilee Day, Freedom Day and Liberation Day; Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, dating back to 1865. Although President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation had formally freed the slaves on January 1st 1863; due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order, this had little impact on the state of Texas.
