you know what I’m gonna take a stand and say abs. I don’t think she saw many men shirtless on balance, so big arms and shoulders she’s like yeah sure whatever, those are a dime a dozen. but abs still has a novelty to it for her - a man is taking his shirt off in front of her!

what are some things aisling loves about the city? (except for niamh)

oh man this question 🥹

obviously it’s my opinion that the hewn city is a dark, haunted, rather grim place, but not the land of unending torments and evil like the inner circle calls it. like a shitty hometown that’s riddled by crime, or had better days, or been struck by any societal blight - that’s still your home, that’s where you’re from, and like a fishing line you’ll only go so far before it inevitably calls you back in some way or another

she loves niamh most of all, of course, but I think she loves a lot of the friends she grew up with. it’s mentioned in by turns but her cohort had very little supervision. they were children when amarantha killed half the court, then rhys took the rest of the courtiers and officers under the mountain with him, so there were very few adults left. their tutoring stopped, the immense societal pressure stopped, and they grew up a bit feral and unsupervised. she loves those memories of playing in empty streets at three am, then getting drunk and careening through midnight neighbourhoods when she was a little older. and yes, she probably loves getting high, too, and the way it makes her feel not claustrophobic but like a rabbit in a cosy warren, curled into a little nest with her friends, warm and drifting and happy.

she loves the moon garden, her one little taste of the outside world, and though I don’t go into it much she loves the library as well when she can barter her way in.

I think being from the hewn city is equal parts hate to love - all those males she grew up with, she knows them as well as you know anyone who you’ve seen through every stage of their lives. and she is not so old now that she cannot remember when they were boys and not so heavy handed, and she cannot look upon their faces and without seeing who they once were. to see them become beasts like their fathers and older brothers when maybe they once held her hand and played games with her makes her angry: at herself, at them, at keir and thanatos, and especially at the high lord when she connects the dots and realises that he leaves keir in power for the sake of maintaining the darkbringers. her frustration with the gender roles forced upon her (and them!) is at the root of the way she lashes out.

I also think she looks back with rose-tinted glasses on a lot of it, particularly after the death of her parents when she was casting about for any comfort and stability she could find. there’s a real conflict in her between wanting freedom and agency, particularly from the hewn city and all the male authority that exerted immense pressure and violence on her, but also knowing that the hewn city deserves better, too, and not wanting to abandon it

somewhere between montana from s3 and meghan from s4. HEAR ME OUT: montana was so cool, collected, sophisticated, self-confident, and unflappable - you could tell she was clever, you could tell she could read a situation for what it was, and she was a girls girl in a lot of ways. she had some real cold-blooded truth in her and she never lied to her friends.

meghan, on the other hand, treated the whole thing like a heist for instagram followers which is exactly what aisling would do. she didn’t play cutesy or pure or pretend she was looking for love - she was an agent of chaos and went after what she wanted, so even though she was kind of a villain of that season, she didn’t sweat it

I just can’t see him enjoying a raw bar. maybe oysters but then again…. nowhere super trendy (pretentious) or over hyped (crowded) or well known (plebeian). I think either those tiny bistros and if you know you know spots, or the overly expensive, overly dark modern british cuisine restaurants. I’m realising this is really specific to London but we’re going with it

vacation destination? chiltern firehouse for a dirty weekend, so he can make it to his office in westminster early on monday morning

I’m kidding (only slightly…) he feels like more of a European holiday guy than anything adventurous. Gstaad for skiing in february, followed by sex in front of a massive fireplace in the chalet, of course. south of france or greece for the summer, but he’d rather die than go to Mykonos no matter how much fun Aisling tells him it will be. Argentina in November for the polo (he’s a horse girl). somewhere private and quiet above all else: he’s a very private individual who keeps the many aspects of his personal life to himself, so I can see that carrying over
