Materialists (2025) Review

Let it be known I never lost faith in Celine Song. From the second I saw that the writer/director of Past Lives had a new movie coming out, I knew I was in good hands. Materialists is a wonderful movie about love & dating, about what we see in each other, about what we want in a partner vs. what we need/deserve. Song takes New York City and makes it feel small, personal, quiet even. She makes such good use of pauses and longing stares. Much like what she did in Past Lives, Song creates little moments that pack a big emotional punch. I'm already planning on seeing this again tomorrow.

10/10 and yes I cried during this one too b/c i'm baby

Top 5 Movies I'm looking forward to this Summer

5. The Bad Guys 2 - I really liked the first Bad Guys movie, really great animation & humor, and this sequel looks promising

4. The Fantastic Four: First Steps - I'm really pulling for this to be the first genuinely good Fantastic Four movie, plus the Thunderbolts* being surprisingly good made me feel more optimistic about this one

3. Eddington - I'm a sucker for anything by Ari Aster, like I'm ride or die at this point. I saw Beau is Afraid 2 times in theaters and I loved it so it's gonna take more than Mixed Reviews to keep me away from the theater

2. Materialists - This is from Celine Song, writer & director of Past Lives (2023). That movie is so good and so heartbreaking that the first time I saw it, I was openly weeping in the theater for the last 10 minutes. Because of that I trust Celine to make another banger

Weapons - This is from Zach Cregger, former Whitest Kid U Know and current horror filmmaker. His previous film, Barbarian (2022) was pretty good (I gave it a 7/10) but also Very Scary, and I gotta say just going off the trailers, this new one looks even scarier, so I'm very excited for that. Sometimes it's fun to be scared

Friendship (2025) Review

Just as I thought, this is just a cinematic masterpiece. Tim Robinson was born to have his beautiful goofy face on a big movie screen, and he has incredible chemistry with Paul Rudd. Friendship is hilarious, unsettling, and brilliant. Must be seen to be believed
