One of Kai’s favorite pastimes was to attempt to sink back into his regular life whenever he had a day off. Returning to Seoul was common, but he liked to slip into his usual clubs that he visited with friends to let loose, and remember that the military was only temporarily. He had enough drinks to feel tipsy, then decided it was time to return home instead of accidentally slipping into being completely hammered. 

He was walking out of the door when he heard the loudness of Jackson’s voice. It was no mistaking that it was him. ❛ Hey!  ❜ He yelled out with his cheesy smile when he spotted his friend. ❛ Were you also inside a bit ago ? ❜

It might’ve crossed Jackson’s mind that his days of partying with fans or locals might be inching closer to an end. He had to remind himself that not everybody would be as trusting as he thought. His problem was believing everybody had a good heart, and that they hung out with him because they truly wanted to. Luckily for him, he had never dealt with a bad experience. He had always left situations by making friends at the end of the night, and he would safely make it back home. Tonight he was waving off his newest friends into an Uber and began to search his pants for his phone. He squinted at the brightness and he slowly moved until he reached some empty benches on the side of the street. He glanced up momentarily then spotted someone he knew. 

“Hey!” Jackson yelled out and began to wave his arms around like a crazy man. “Come here! Yeah! You! Turn around!” Jackson yelled louder that some other heads began to turn. “Not you guys” He waved everyone else off then stood up to point. He was a little drunk so the next words were loud and messy. “You!”

Requesting an afternoon off was nearly impossible for Jongin. His internal fear was that he would ask for a random afternoon off , then a random emergency would come through only to find that he wouldn’t leave his post because he used those hours. Jongin glued his eyes to the clock until he was given the green light to leave for the remaining part of the day. The weekend was free to roam wherever he pleased , and he chose to return home for the upcoming forty-eight hours. 

He thought he was running late to the lunch he had with his hyung. He was about to message him an apology when he heard that familiar motorcycle sound approach the parking lot. His cheesy smile turned to his hyung, and he walked the remaining part with open arms ready to receive his brother. ❛ You came in with style. ❜ He said referring to the machinery.

the rev of chanyeol's motorcycle engine was the only thing that sounded throughout his helmet as he sped through the busy streets of seoul, leaving behind all the different trucks and cars that had found themselves stuck in the dreaded weekend traffic. his decision to get a motorcycle all those years ago once again proved to be one of the best ones he ever made. reduced travel time and the thrill of zooming past the lively buildings and citizens of the city made chanyeol feel as if he was experiencing a dream.

the fun ride slowly came to an end as chanyeol pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant he agreed to meet at. just in time too, because while slowing himself down to park in the space closest to the entrance, chanyeol spotted his friend getting out of their car. a smile appeared on his face while he parked, and after ensuring that he was all set, the rapper took his helmet off and waved. "ya! i see we made it at the same time," he started, hopping off the motorcycle and locking his helmet on before placing the keys in his pocket. chanyeol made his way over to where his friend was and let out a playful sigh of relief. "for a second there, i thought i was late."

Kai: You're in the base now? Kai: ㅋㅋI'm kidding. I knew that already! Kai: Let's have game night happen.

The year seemed to go by in a rush now that he was far from home. Jongin felt like he had to play catch up during the days he had off. Ask around, and see if anything different had occurred. He liked to hang out with friends just the same. He happily sat down with Mark, and was already bouncing his knee from anticipation of his drink arriving to the table any moment now. ❛ My younger self ?  ❜ Jongin took a long time to think. ❛ I want to say something profound like admire every moment but I think I would highlight the best days on the calendar, and not say anything. I won’t give details or any information. That way I know something important is happening that day. ❜

september had started off with a bang once his new release came out following with his 30th birthday. it didn’t take long when a surprising trip to jeju happened, and he once again felt like he was living happily. the year kept strong, and he had high hopes that it would end just the same. happy, loved, and hopeful for a bright future with his loved ones. 

“if you could go back and say something to your younger self, what would it be?” mark wondered as he sat with company while they awaited their coffee orders together.

Now that Jongin was away from home , and had to follow the schedule of somebody other than his company ; he had a lot of time to reflect on the important things in his life. One of those things being his members. Most of them had already served their time , and now it was up to Jongin to do the same. Finish the two years and he could return to his normal life. There were harder days sprinkled into his life when he was away , but that made these days extra special when he could hang out with his friends during his days off.  Jongin smiled when the world seemed to go against what Chan just said. ❛ I get you. It’s easy to forget one’s problems here ❜ There were enough noise happening that it cleared your mind despite it being so loud with the background noise. Jongin happily took his order of tteokbokki and took his fork to take his first bite. ❛ We can try to find a place to sit , and you can tell me all about what the world is like now that I’m not in the loop ❜ The older man suggested.

chan had a lot to be grateful for. he was lucky with the members he had in stray kids, and was blessed that he was given the role as a leader. there had been doubts of how long he would be able to manage and keep the group running before he cracked. chan always sought answers from the older generation. he often questioned how they could keep the responsibility on their shoulders without crumbling, but he soon realized that the answers were his members. the ones that gave him the motivation to continue. after he found that out, things got much easier for the australian. 

“i like coming here to get away from the noise.” chan said. a bit ironic when the streets were busy with tourists all around and the sound of the cars honking in the background. he then laughed after he realized what he said. “i meant that i love to come here to get away from the responsibility, and for the food.” the food vendors were some of the best places to grab a bite to eat, and chan was excited to get his tteokbokki. “where should we go after this?” he then asked after they were given their order.

Confidence was important in Jongin’s life. There hadn’t been a time when jealously was much of an issue when Jongin was happy with who he was , and the girls he showed interest in returned that feeling. He learned from his hyungs on how to read a woman’s body language, and try to figure her out before he invested too much time. With Jennie , it seemed like they were on the same page. He liked her, she liked him. Their relationship seemed strong when they agreed to be public and became stoic when around Dispatch. He tried not to think about what would have happened when they broke up. He always assumed it was for a reason, and did his best not to sit in his feelings.  Now it seemed like he would have to confront that part of him that he assumed was buried by now. There wasn’t much of a reason why he shouldn’t tag along, and have an open dialect with Jennie. ❛ Okay ,  ❜ Jongin followed Jennie towards the empty bench. He sat, and thought about what would be good to say during this time. If he should ask how she was doing or jump straight into the topic. ❛ Are you enjoying  the trip ? I noticed how busy you’ve been with touring lately . ❜ Jongin decided to merge the two topics as smoothly as he could.  

the breakup with jongin did wound jennie’s heart. their relationship had been strong enough that they didn’t shy away from the public nor was she bothered with the online bullying she received from his fans. at the end of the day, all that mattered was that they were happy, and she wasn’t going to stress about what people behind a screen were saying. her emotions began to ran deep for the singer the longer they were an item. suddenly, the bad luck of traveling and performing had put a strain into what she thought was a powerful force. now she was having to juggle her love life along with keeping her job. at one point, she wondered if it was worth all of the stress. that’s when she knew that their relationship had ended; when she had thoughts about what life would be like without having a boyfriend. 

anther messy breakup was what led jennie to now live and stay in the single life. to straighten her crap out without dragging anybody else with her. before she could do that, though, she had to get over this fear of talking to her exes. put on her big girl pants, and talk through their issues, and hopefully, receive the closure that she wanted. she nodded at jongin, afraid that her voice would break in between the word. “we can talk over here,” she gestured towards an empty bench and table that was far away from the rest of the crowds. hopefully, the only witnesses that would be around would be the birds and whatever animal lingered in the trees. she took a few steps towards the location, hoping that he was following.

Jongin had no regrets in life. He accepted the consequences to any choices he made. The idol understood the backlash he would take when the rumors of his relationship with Jennie were true. His company was beyond angry, and encouraged him to end the relationship before the situation got out of hand, but he kept on. Timing was a rare jewel in the industry with Jongin occupied with his idol career along with the acting one. At the same time , Blackpink were on the rise , and it put a strain in their relationship no matter how much Jongin tried to hang on. It seemed like the world had other plans for the duo. The last straw for the singer was when he realized how little time the two had invested once they went public.  It wasn’t his mission to avoid Jennie , but he surely didn’t attempt to rekindle things. If their paths crossed , then that was a different story. And for years , he managed to wiggle away from her. The breakup had turned messier than the others he was a part of. Then her relationship with Taehyung began , and Jongin’s soul was crushed. Thinking that she didn’t care too much for the relationship or that she didn’t care as much as he did. ❛ Me ? ❜ Jongin glanced around , wondering if she was speaking with him or if somebody directly behind him. ❛ Sure , ❜ His nerves sparked when he stood from his seat to awkwardly walk over to her. ❛ Where do you want to talk ? ❜

There had been people in Jennie’s life that she tried to avoid. Old exes, for example. The Blackpink rapper had a bad track record of keeping relationships, and she blamed the hopeless romantic side of her that she continued to have the same issues. Always wishing for a happy ending, but never putting the effort in keeping it. Instead, she put her career in front of her each time she landed herself in another relationship. Unfortunately, or fortunately, things ended between her and Kai before something great could come from it. The public had ended them before she really explored her feelings, and thus, her continuing to date in search of that happily ever after. 

Closure was a hard thing to come by, and Jennie took part in avoiding that subject altogether when she avoided her exes at all costs. This time around, she found herself close to Kai and Taehyung. Two men that she had successfully avoided until now. Seeing that she had already crossed paths with Taehyung, she felt like it was only fitting to rip the bandaid and do the same with Jongin seeing that he was here from the military. “Hey, are you busy?” Jennie asked when she finally came across Jongin around the cabins. “Are you able to talk?” She asked, worried about what his response would be.

Kai: That would be fun! It'll be a good video for fans to see us with short hair, and dancing together. Kai: It's a strategy game. It's really fun, just time consuming. Kai: We'll soon get lots of snow. Kai: I know where that's at, so great! I'll try to look for you on our break, then.

Jinyoung: I think I now know the meaning behind TikTok. When we get out of here we should do a dance challenge! Or something else. It would be fun.

Jinyoung: Clash Royal? I have never heard of that game before. What's it like?

Jinyoung: It’s September so it's about that time of year for rain to head our way.

Jinyoung: we have lunch around the same time! I usually like eating by the big fans as a way of keeping myself cool.

Kai: It makes the day go by much faster. Kai: I haven't tried the game yet. How would you rate it? Kai: We are friends. I meant it more of that I have no friends here ㅠㅠ.

Seonghwa: How's that going so far for you, though, hyung? Seonghwa: There's a new star wars game out...I'm getting addicted to my phone, too. Seonghwa: Aren't we friends, though? I don't just give lego away to anyone!

Kai: The best of friends! Kai: We're only a few bases apart which is why I said that ㅠㅠ.

minhyuk: "like i have friends"! minhyuk: excuse me while i cry in the corner because i thought i was under the impression that we weere best friends.

Kai: I bounce back and forth between Clash Royale and Roblox! They take a lot of my timeㅋㅋ. Kai: That's impossible. You're already popular enough! Kai: It varies. Most of them will get together and all have a big lunch. Kai: How's work?

soobin: what games are you playing? i can give you some suggestions if you ever want to feed into your addiction. soobin: aw, hyung. i'm sure you have more friends than i ever and will ever have ㅋ soobin: do others also spend a lot of time on their phones?

Kai: Tiktok will certainly make you lose track of time. Hence why they called it Tiktok. Time passes you by when you're online. Kai: It's entertaining! I've also been invested in Clash Royale. I bounce back and forth from those. Kai: I hope the rain comes soon enough. I have my umbrella waiting for me. I'm not too sure, but let's hope that they do. Kai: Let's do it! My lunch break is usually between 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. When's yours?

Jinyoung: Social media is indeed a monster. I'll be sitting there on my phone intending on answering a text only to be dragged back into the enticing world of Instagram reels. One of my friends is trying to get me into TikTok, and I have a feeling it would consume my life.

Jinyoung: Roblox? I've seen some reels from that game pop up on my Instagram. In a way it reminds me of Minecraft. I can understand wanting to stop something that consumes your life.

Jinyoung: One of the members in my squad has similar relationship with Genshin Impact. He has problems playing for a couple of hours and speaking to his family.

Jinyoung: I know right. It feels like we're walking through the rainforest, but we'll be enjoying fall soon. Do you think they'll let us celebrate Halloween out here?

Jinyoung: We should become lunch buddies. When is your lunch break, friend?
