When we thought about animating we realised that we needed to simplify our characters in order to animate them. Our new characters are all the same shape which will work well with our ‘customise’ aspect of the game as the different outfits will be able to fit on everyone.
Our rats have also been have also been completed for our renegades to compete with.

Background trials - need to add more detail in and more gameplay. This can be achieved by planning the gameplay a bit more.

Character development. The female character still needs work in order to fit with others. Could try drawing her standing front on instead of the action position she is in at the moment

Our first showing
For this formative assessment, we showed what theme and aesthetic we’re aiming for with this game (post apocalyptic). As well as this, we created a draft ‘personality test’ for classmates and lecturers to take part in and give us feedback.
We want our game to be very sociable. We’re going to design it so completing tasks or levels cannot be done on your own, you must have other friends playing to achieve. Before children begin playing our game, they will be presented with a personality test that will allocate them 1 of the 4 different avatars. Different avatars will have different skills, and will all be useful for the game. The use of the personality test will create variation in avatars used and will encourage children to talk to other children with different avatars.
Some key points we took back from the feedback are:
Cater the personality test to children more - think about the language used and incorporate illustrations and symbols
In terms of the project, think about what the ideal outcome would be and what the minimum outcome will be - make a plane from this
Do players recommend other players when in need of a different avatar
Decide on your narrative.

Game design inspiration.
Engaging and fun colours used in the backgrounds and nice details in the character designs

Firewatch - a newly released game with great aesthetics - we are thinking of creating our game in a more 2-D style. But this is si still great in terms of colour and atmosphere

DSD cards are a great tool we can use when designing our game to ensure the child is benefitting from it

Another cool example that combines AR with real world. This game is based off the idea of a scavenger hunt - a good way to get people to go outside

Gray’s Feedback:
Create a storyboard of how our game will work
Challenge is AR is one view - can’t go to a menu
Missing designs - designs are key
Have a rough outline of what the illustrations might look like
Start trialing our game
Pretend our phone is AR
What is our underlying theme?
Who are the players fighting?
Who are our heroes?
Who are our warriors?
Could it be an idea to Keep the game in AR the entire time
Download some 3-D apps and have a play
Confusing that we’re making kids go outside to just play a game? - make our game more clear to erase confusion
Why do we need the boss battle bit after the scavenger part?
Playing a game in the sunlight is difficult
People can see through it - how do we address this? - embrace positiveness of going outside
Playing a game exclusive to the environment seems strange
Think about making the games visuals big, bold and 2D for AR
In AR could you throw things outside, so the player interacts with the outside world from inside
The game we make has to be suitable to be played outside - something simple like candy crush
When your add home you can get immersed into the game - when your playing on a mobile phone it is hard to get immersed
We could make a case/argument for social screen based games being played outdoors
Could play an immersive game on the side of a hill
Will need to design a game that can be played standing up
Create a ‘Great outdoors immersive game’
What attributes will our game have?
Could bump phones to make game play work
Try play game in a park ourselves - ethnography
What game looks like in AR and not in AR
Arcade style game could work
Having AR and other game aspect is cool - how do we make this work, how do they merge? - could be shining part of our game?
Think about the length of the games - 5 minutes? 20 seconds?
Don’t forget about 360
Run to activity kind of thing - 5 different spots - 5 different games
Pretend its working find problems
Talk about attributes to the game MUST have
