Going from your Adidas and Nike socks, to a pair of cheap slides, tube socks, orange jumpsuit, and shackles.
What I imagine intake would be like.

Convicted of vehicular homicide and sentenced to 23 years in prison, the prisoner is led away to start his new life crying, dressed in a bright orange correctional uniform and chains.
For man in his twenties and in his prime, it means that he will be middle-aged before he is a free man again. No doubt it’s this realisation that has broken him down into tears. After spending time in the county jail, he already has a fair idea of what prisoners endure during their incarceration. Being told what to do, what to wear, the crappy food, no privacy, constant danger, boredom, being chained and shackled, gang showers and forced naked for daily strip searches are just some aspects to his new life as a state inmate over the next two decades.
