Hope is a visual poem about the journey of a thought, with a scale transposition to the gigantic/cosmic, it tries to represent the brain's complexity and the birth of a feeling, as a charged particle travels through neuron and gives the power to create information and emotion.

It has been made using real shots of macroscopic chemical reactions, recorded with a 8k camera, with a 100mm macro lens, that turn the shooting into a microscopic observation and permitting to avoid CGI most of the time. Using this process allowed me to conceive the most complex figures possible, without getting rid of the natural beauty, and the extreme complexity of the neuronal system that I tried to represent.

We linked the idea of hope, in a personal, human sense, to the journey every ion has to make across the neuronal membrane – an infinitesimal part of the most complex machine, with each particle striving for it’s destination, driven by the charge gradient across the membrane. It’s not biologically accurate of course, it’s an epic-scale dramatisation of a fundamental process that is making you aware of reading this right now...

/* I had been working full time on Planet Unknown from July 2015 to June 2016. It was a passion project as well as my graduation thesis film at Communication University of China. This 11-month journey was very challenging, but it was a perfect learning opportunity as well.

The idea started back in 2014 when Interstellar was released. I was deeply impressed by the movie and was inspired by the two robots TARS and CASE. The idea of intellectual robots exploring space developed from there.

Other inspirations include Pixar movies like WALL-E and Toy Story, as well as CHAPPiE, NASA documentaries about Mars Rover Curiosity, and short films by individuals like Alex Roman’s The Third & The Seventh, Richard Mans’ Abiogenesis, Erik Wernquist’s Wanderers, Alf Lovvold’s Dawn of the Stuff, and so many more.

Echoic Audio, one of the UK's leading music & sound design studios, joined this adventure with epic cinematic score and detailed sound design which catapulted the film to a new level that I had never imagined.

This project pushed me to do what I never thought I could do. However, it also keeps punching me in the face and shows me how limited my skills are. There are still tons of problems in the making that I can't figure out even now.

One of the possibilities is called "The White Hole Theory", a sort of exit from the black hole, a point where everything is born, including space and time. Some compare it to the Big Bang.

INTRA tells the visual story of this theory, a journey from the black to the white hole, a cosmic tale of death and birth... As a tribute to Nolan's Interstellar, this second short after NOVAE goes deeper into our conception of cosmos, interpreting the unknown to propose a vision of the most extreme celestial object of our Universe... -- Nous ne savons pas encore ce qu'il y a dans un trou noir, nous savons qu'il y a une singularité, un point où toutes les règles de la physique s'effondrent. Une des possibilités est appelée "la théorie du trou blanc", un sorte de sortie du trou noir, un point où tout est né, y compris l'espace et le temps. Certains le comparent même au Big Bang.
