They’re Called the “Fab Four” For a Reason
1964: The Tribute | Brown County Music Center | 1/25/24
Tumblr media
If you’re a music fan of any kind, you either love, appreciate, or at the very least have heard of The Beatles. The 60s rock/pop band live on, sixty years after they dominated the music industry in 1964.
Something I love about being a fan of The Beatles is the fact that the support is generational. I saw kids at this tribute show that couldn’t have been more than six or seven years old singing their hears out to the classics such as “She Loves You”, “Help!”, and many more! What I think is funny about parents and grandparents handing down their music taste to the children of today is the fact that I was the one who got my grandparents into listening to The Beatles. During that time period, they were more so Elvis fans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1964 is a Beatles tribute band that plays shows as they were performed during that time period. They create a very engaging, hilarious, heartwarming experience that honestly makes you forget you’re watching a tribute band. It felt very special to me because I have been a fan for years, and had accepted the fact that I would just have to watch re-uploads of the concerts from the 60s on YouTube.
That was until my grandpa asked me “A tribute to The Beatles is going to be at Brown County Music Center Thursday January 25th. Do you want to go?” Of course I immediately said yes. I had seen a tribute band for them in the past, but it didn’t nearly compare to the show that 1964 put on.
Overall, I loved the experience and I’d go and see them again. They played two acts with a ten minute intermission in between sets. The Brown County Music Center was a great seated venue with two levels and no view that I saw looked obstructed in any way. I would reccomend that if you’re a fan of The Beatles, you would love 1964’s rendition!

I Heard They KILL Live!
Ice Nine Kills in Indianapolis, IN
11-7-2023
Tumblr media
Ice Nine Kills (INK) puts on, once again, a killer performance while on the Kiss of Death Tour. The Massachusetts “horror-core” band have just ended their month long tour with In This Moment, supported by Avatar and New Year’s Day on December 2nd.
The audience was electric when the first few notes of “Hip To Be Scared” started playing and the band hit the stage. Stage actor Michael Meaney contributed to this beginning energy with his role as Paul Allen from hit film “American Psycho”. The unity felt within the crowd when everyone shouted “HEY PAUL!” right before the breakdown was unmatched.
The setlist consisted of a healthy mix of new and old songs that catered to both the new and older fans. They started with songs off of “Welcome To Horrorwood” (2021) and “The Silver Scream” (2018), but added in a song from the 2014 album “The Predator Becomes The Prey”, as per fan request through the Psycho’s Only app.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The set consisted of many visuals that referenced horror movies, most notably the performance of the song “The Shower Scene”. This act visualizes the 1960 film “Psycho”, in which Amanda Sahr plays the role of Marion Crane, and INK’s frontman Spencer Charnas plays his own version of Norman Bates. The song is another tune in which crowd participation is incredible. Hearing everyone shout the chorus together during one of the music breaks is such a powering experience to hear as a fan.
Throughout my years of supporting INK, I have been faced with nothing but community in regards to interacting with other fans. Everyone seems to come together and share their common interests in heavy metal, horror, and performance art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this show, I was with a good friend of mine, Miko Puno. He is a fellow photographer based in Indianapolis, and was happy to come along with me to the show, despite not listening to metal.
“From a person who does not listen to metal, I enjoyed it significantly, and quite frankly, I’d go on to say I would do it again.” He says to me when asked about his thoughts on the show, “I was told Ice Nine Kills would be the highlight of the night, and they were correct. If I were to only talk about the ‘sights’ of Ice Nine, it was a sight to behold. Numerous horror movie references, as well as evident passion for their music and their role; it was clear to me that they loved their music, and their fans sure did too.”
My personal favorite song to see performed that night was the newest released song “Meat & Greet”. This song was released on October 13th of this year, and was the conclusion of the Horrorwood Saga as of now. The song consisted of many references to the film “Silence of the Lambs”, and the live performance of the song didn’t disappoint.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lane Nobriga and FRANCO, two stage actors for INK, did an incredible job in bringing the song to life and creating intriguing and exciting visualities playing opposing roles as Hannibal Lecter and an officer.
I feel the conclusion to the show was one to remember. The band ended the set with “Welcome To Horrorwood”, containing an exhilarating guitar solo from Miles Dimitri Baker and fast paced drums from Patrick Galante. Normally, in other performances during this song, Charnas would climb into the crowd and be held up by fans during the last chorus, but given the set up of the venue, that didn’t happen this show. Though that didn’t take away from the head-banging, voice-losing, thrilling encore. With Ricky Armellino on guitar and Joe Occhiuti on bass, along with the rest of the band, the whole performance was one to remember. This makes the second time I’ve seen Ice Nine Kills, and I’ve been blown away by their production every time. If you’re a horror/metal fanatic that loves theatrics and passion for music, Ice Nine Kills is the band for you.

True Norwegian Black Metal
Mayhem - Old Foresters Paristown Hall, Louisville KY
10/21/23
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mayhem's live performance was an incredible experience, showcasing the apex of musical artistry and stagecraft. From the very moment they entered the stage, a charge coursed through the venue, electrifying the audience.
Mayhem's signature fusion of black metal with theatrical elements distinguished their performance. The band's members, adorned in distinctive makeup and stage attire, curated a visual art that seamlessly complemented their intense musical delivery.
Tumblr media
In terms of musicianship, Mayhem displayed remarkable precision and power in their performance. Their iconic compositions, such as "Freezing Moon" and "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas," were executed flawlessly, prompting the crowd to engage in collective headbanging and moshing.
What made this performance truly exceptional was its capacity to unify a diverse audience. People of varying ages and backgrounds were drawn into a shared experience, transcending the conventional boundaries of a live concert. This ability to create a profound sense of camaraderie is an attribute rarely encountered in the realm of live music.
In conclusion, Mayhem's live show was not merely a concert but a profoundly cathartic and almost spiritual encounter. It underscored the band's enduring legacy and their capacity to push the boundaries of black metal. For those with an appreciation for immersive live music that leaves an enduring imprint on the soul, Mayhem's performance is an unequivocal imperative. The experience underscored the transformative power of live music in connecting and inspiring audiences, and I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to witness it once more.

Respect the Neck:
Cannibal Corpse in Louisville, KY
10/21/23
I recently had the opportunity to photograph a Cannibal Corpse show, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment they hit the stage, the energy in the venue was electric. The band's fast and loud performance perfectly emulated the crowd’s liveliness. The raw intensity of their music, combined with the charismatic stage presence of the band members, created an atmosphere of controlled chaos that had the entire crowd headbanging and moshing.
Tumblr media
Cannibal Corpse's setlist was a great combinatorial of their classic tracks and new album. The way they delivered each song with precision and power was a testament to their status as legends of death metal. The lighting and stage effects added to the overall ambiance, enhancing the visual aspect of the show, as seen in these photographs.
Other than the showmanship, what I adored at the show was the fans. Despite the aggressive nature of the music, there was a sense of unity and shared enthusiasm among everyone in the audience. Metalheads of all ages came together to celebrate this iconic band. I saw children no more than ten years old head-banging in the crowd.
In summary, Cannibal Corpse put on a performance that was nothing like I’ve seen before. If you're a fan of heavy music and intense live shows, seeing Cannibal Corpse live is an experience you won't want to miss.

Saturday, I had my first official show where I had access to take photos. Getting approved for a photo pass, being in a photo pit in the venue, everything. I had a blast.
The bands playing were Wyld Ryde, a classic rock style band, and the headliner, Nighttrain.
Tumblr media
Nighttrain is a Guns N’ Roses tribute band. They emulated the sound and visual appeal of GNR really well. Their tour continues for a few dates in December.

On October 29th, I got the opportunity to take a photoshoot and photos of a set from rapper NateGotHeat.
Tumblr media
He is an artist based in Indianapolis, IN and has just released a single with artist IHateTuesday titled “Til Itz Rip”. His music is very lively and his energy transferred over to the crowd, making the set really hype and exciting.
Being an up-and-coming artist, I am super excited to see what other musical opportunities he has in store!

TiLLie live, opening for Lights on the PEP tour 4/25/22 in Columbus, OH.
TiLLie is one of my favorite artists. I knew a few of her songs and singles before I saw the show, but it wasn’t until afterward when I really fell in love with her music.
Her new single ‘Realitie Bites’ is the perfect song to jam to in your car, and I really suggest you check her out!

Chase Atlantic at the Old National Center, Indianapolis IN on 7/19/2022
Another one of my favorite bands. I first saw the Australian trio open for the artist Lights in 2018 and have been following the band ever since.
With the release of their deluxe edition of the album ‘Beauty in Death’ in early 2022, the band proceeded to go on their Cold Nights tour across North America with artists such as Leah Kate and Xavier Mayne. Out of the three times I’ve seen this band live, they never fail to amaze me.

One of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken. 4/25/2022. Musical artist, producer, and writer Lights sets out on her ‘PEP’ North American tour, performing hits such as ‘Salt & Vinegar’, ‘Savage’, and ‘Okay Okay’.
Her energy is always bubbly and crowds are always in synch, yelling the lyrics at the top of their lungs. This photo was taken at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH, coincidentally the same venue where I saw here play during the ‘We Were Here’ tour in 2018.
She has been my favorite artist for well over a decade and being able to photograph her show was an incredible experience.
