A letter to my binary trans siblings in the community:

Nonbinary people are valid

Just because you are a binary trans person doesn’t mean you get to police nonbinary people’s identities

We binary trans people are in no way the authority in the community, and shouldn’t speak over our nb siblings

If you think nonbinary people aren’t real or that they are only two genders, get the fuck out of our community. You seriously gonna piss on other trans people the way other cis people have done it to us? What a hypocrite.

Not all nonbinary people identify as trans, but they can identify as trans if they feel like it suits them

Binary aligned nb people aren’t ‘basically cis’ or ‘basically trans’ depending on their AGAB, they are whatever gender they say they are

Not all nonbinary people are binary aligned, not all nonbinary people have a static gender. Get over it.

They/them pronouns are valid and not using them for nb people is transphobic, even if you are binary trans yourself

Neopronouns are valid too, and you should use them if you are able to

As long as they aren’t being made by trolls, all nb labels are valid and not for you to judge or degrade

Nb genders weren’t made for us to understand or analyze, we should just respect them, period.

Above all, if you shit on nb people as a binary trans person that’s real shady of you. We as trans people should know that gender isn’t all black and white, and that different people experience it differently. Some trans people don’t have a gender, some have a neutral gender, some change gender over time, some are partly a gender, get over it.

As a trans man I want to apologize on behalf of those bigoted trans guys out there, I promise you they are a minority and there are plenty of ones like me out there. You are valid and deserve to have your identity respected, and I’m always here if you need to talk about gender or rant. The nonbinary community was so lovely to me when I was questioning, and they helped me figure out I’m actually a guy. I want to make our trans community as a whole the same for you guys.
