“That’s fine, Ladybug. I wouldn’t have it any other way.” With a quick wink, he flipped himself off of the Eiffel Tower, laughing the whole way down. It was riskier with all the rain and lighting in the background. A thunderstorm.

“Stop doing that, Chat Noir! And wait up!”

“Don’t worry M’Lady! And how else would I be able to say I fell off the tower?”

“Chat Noir!”

Feeling something wet slip down her cheek, Marinette was brought out of her stupor. To think that night was less than a week ago made her heart ache. He was her best friend, and partner in (fighting) crime. It just wasn’t supposed to end that way, with something as simple as a mugging gone wrong.

Having made their way to New Jersey, it was supposed to be a quick little thing, he said, now he was never coming back.

But Marinette would have to go.

Looking for the missing miraculous of destruction.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste were the picture of young love. They were inseparable most ever since realizing the true depth of their feelings for eachother. Being together, they had shared countless memories, laughs, and adventures. Despite it having only been a year since making the claim of boyfriend and girlfriend, their feelings for each other blossomed into something more. They were the perfect couple, and their love for each other only grew stronger with each passing day.

Marinette, with her bright smile and bubbly personality, was the light of Adrien's life. She brought joy and happiness wherever she went, and Adrien was forever grateful to have her by his side. Adrien, with his dashing good looks and charming smile, was the dream boy of every girl in school. But to Marinette, he was the only one who truly mattered.

The two of them spent their days in class together, and later exploring the streets of Paris, fighting akumas (they were still unaware of just who they were partnered with, but was glad to be able to run off without any inquiry).

Life wasn’t the best, but it was good.

It had been a beautiful summer day in Paris, the kind of day that made you feel like anything was possible. Marinette and Adrien were just lying there, taking in one another’s company.

But then, something changed.

Gabriel, Adrien's father, had never been much of a presence in their love life- or even ist Adrien’s life after his mother’s passing. He had always been cold and distant, so Marinette and Adrien had always believed that he was just busy with work, and left him out of their thoughts. They tried once upon a time, but it only brought more disappointment. They believed it would get better with time- his own time.

But that day, Gabriel chose to reveal the truth.

Calling the bodyguard to pick up his son, he banned Marinette from entering the home. Not wasting any more time on her, he patiently waited for his son to arrive, so he could explain just what he had been planning, and Adrien would either play along, or be pulled out all together.

He had been watching Adrien's feelings for Marinette, making his own plans and judgements from afar. He had been planning a game, a game of control and manipulation, and Marinette and Adrien were just pawns in his goal to get back what he lost.

Adrien was devastated. He had always looked up to his father, always believed that he was a good man. But now, he saw the truth. His father was a monster, a manipulative and evil man who had been using him and all of Paris to fulfill his own twisted desires.

Adrien had accepted his mother’s death a long time ago, knowing she would have wished for them to move on. To not be stuck needlessly in the past of something that wasn't coming back. But Gabriel thought the opposite, and was working to bring her back.

Gabriel had said he wanted a powerful akuma- that he wanted Marinette. That he had bee aware of her and her emotional range since the first akuma was released, and thought he was going to win it all in his first debut of Scarlet Moth, but had to pull back because of Nathalie- and things had finally begun to make sense.

The similarities in Nathalie’s and his mother’s condition had nothing to do with a simple coincidence, just the fact that they originated from the same thing, a broken miraculous.

But even with all of what his father had just told him flowing through his head, he was thinking of Marinette. He didn’t want to break her heart, nor did he want to drag her into all of this.

And then there would be Ladybug. There was no doubt that Adrien would be out under further surveillance, so there was a high chance that his secret escapades as Chat Noir would be found out. He would need to give up Play before that happened.

Setting his mind to what he needed to do, Adrien stood.

Marinette was heartbroken. She had given her heart to Adrien, and she had believed that they had a future together. But now, she saw that it was all a lie. Adrien was being pulled away from her, forced to choose between his father and her.

The two of them fought, their voices raised in anger and pain.

He just couldn’t tell her what exactly was going on, saying that it was a choice between her and his own family, voice raw filled with an emotion she couldn’t place.

In the end, Adrien chose his father. He had no real choice but to choose the man who was always behind him, even though he knew that he was a monster. Marinette was left alone, her heart shattered into a million pieces. She knew that she would never be able to love again, not after what she believed was so real had turned out like this.

Ok, so this actually took some time for me to actually distinguish between the fics I like, and then the fics the people like. Anyways here ya go!

1) Among the Ways of the World - I enjoyed writing this fic and it isn’t something that I think is full of a bunch of problems when I go back to read it. Writing Daminette (in my opinion) is one the easiest pairings for me. While there are only five chapters posted, there are more written, awaiting for the next civil war to be brought upon us <3

2) Through the Ages - This was my first time really having Cass play apart in the entirety of a fic. I enjoy reading as well as writing gen/platonic relationships, so this definitely wasn’t a struggle. I myself like the amount of “cute” “fluffy” stuff that was thrown in there with the rest, and idk, I think it fits well.

3) Plausible Deniability - While it may not be as funny or “crack” filled as some other works, I think I did a pretty decent job on getting some funny elements in there, and I hope you think so too.

4) Dubious Plausibility - Same reasons as above, along with the word count. I like the word count very much.

5) A Waistcoat You Say? - This fic is purely MLB, and it actually kinda follows cannon. Maybe that’s why it’s so hard for me to continue, as I’m not one of those people that make things follow time lines and such (can you blame me?) but I’m try to make this as realistic as possible.
