at dawn in Weehawken, New Jersey, a duel took place between old friends, Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. Political tensions had grown between the two after the war, completely dividing them. But on the morning of July 11th, when the two men faced off, Hamilton had made a pledge not to shoot Burr and instead fired his shot over his head, hitting a branch on a nearby tree. Burr however, not knowing about Hamilton's pledge, fired and hit Hamilton's lower abdomen, delivering a deadly blow. When Hamilton collapsed, Burr moved towards him in "a speechless manner" but was immediately hustled away- he most likely realized the damage he had done and felt regretful. When the doctor rushed over to Hamilton, he recalled the Founding Father said to him, "This is a mortal wound, doctor," and while he was most certainly talking about the bullet in his hip, I like to think it also references his relationship with Burr, being beyond repair at this point.

Alexander Hamilton died July 12th, 1804.

real quick, I just want to say that I will not be online very often anymore due to family issues. I promise I will come back though because I really love you guys.
