In honor of Craig Sager returning to the NBA on TNT tonight, I've decided to sport the pink & blue bow tie. Sager has been battling cancer for almost two years now, and is ready to return tonight for TNT's part one of the doubleheader featuring the Oklahoma City Thunder & the Chicago Bulls. Sager has always been one for the crazy suits and ties, and considering the fact that I would someday like to do what he does, I thought this would be a good way to honor one of the greatest sports figures of all time. Welcome back Sages!

The service for former Portland Trail Blazer Jerome Kersey is set for March 2nd at 4:00pm. Doors will open at 3:00pm. It will take place at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the same arena where Kersey once played. The public is invited as the city remembers Jerome for not only what he did on the court, but off it as well. Kersey did so much for the community & was a frequent broadcaster on Comcast SportsNet Northwest. He will be severely missed, but his legacy will continue to live on. Rest in Peace #JK25

While we are all still bitter about our Super Bowl loss, maybe this will help ease the pain. We now know the teams that will visit Seattle next year! Just by looking at the teams, we have a legitimate chance to go unbeaten at home. What happens on the road remains to be seen. I'm saying the Hawks go 13-3 with potential losses coming to Green Bay, Dallas, and Baltimore. It's much too early for predictions but let's look at this as a chance to recover and to heal. What do you think? How will Seattle perform next year?

So as we all know, Mo Williams opted out of the last year of his contract with the Blazers. He can still return to Portland, but he wants at least a 3 year deal, and I don鈥檛 think he gets that here.
Assuming Mo is off to another team, let鈥檚 take a look at some of the names that have been popping up as potential replacements.
DARREN COLLISON- Out of everyone that鈥檚 out there in the free agent market, I personally believe that Collison would be the best fit here in Portland as Damian鈥檚 backup. Problem here is the price. Coming off another productive season in which he averaged nearly 12聽PPG and 5 assists per game, it would seem likely that we wouldn鈥檛 be able to use our mid level exception to sign him.
ISAIAH THOMAS- Thomas averaged 20.3聽PPG with the Kings last season, so like Mo, he offers a legit scoring option off the bench. But will Sacramento throw a ton of money at him based on his success this past season? Sounds like something the Kings would do, not to mention, Isaiah is going to want to be a starter somewhere. Unlikely choice here.
KIRK HINRICH- I would not be surprised to see Hinrich end up in Rip City. His scoring has declined over the last couple of seasons, but he's still a very serviceable backup who can hit the 3 &聽also play some decent defense. He understands he is a backup at this point in his career and has a team first attitude.
That's only a few options, but what do you think? Who would you like to see the Blazers sign if Mo Williams doesn't return?

For the majority of this blog's life, I will be writing about Northwest related sports. But for certain occasions, I'll write about some national stuff as well. As you know, the finals start tonight and we have ourselves a rematch of last years finals, the first rematch since the 97-98 Bulls & Jazz.
What it comes down to this year for me is this. The Spurs are better than they were last year, while Miami is worse. Granted, the Heat made it through the Eastern Conference like a fat kid makes it through a chocolate cake. Needless to say, the eastern conference was soft this year. The Spurs absolutely destroyed the tough western conference on their way to the finals. They're on fire right now. They cannot be stopped. Which is why I'm picking them to win this series in 5.
I believe San Antonio takes the first two in Texas. Miami will take game 3 and everybody will think we have ourselves a series again. They are wrong. The Spurs take game 4, go up 3-1, and Miami gives up in game 5 where the Spurs win by 20 and collect their 5th title in the last 15 years.
It will be a high rated series television wise, because America loves to see the Heat fail. When Miami wins, ratings go down. They lose, ratings go up.
So get ready America. Because I believe the Spurs get their revenge, and it starts tonight!

In a surprising but touching move, the Seahawks cut their 6th round pick, Garrett Scott due to a heart condition. But, they signed him to his rookie deal BEFOREHAND so that he could earn his first year salary and signing bonus. In a world where most people have the "think for themselves" type of attitude, it's good to see a pro sports team put someone else first. I'm honored to be a fan of a team like the Seahawks that does something like this.

The play that everyone will be talking about tomorrow! Michael Saunders just by inches beats out the tag by Astros pitcher Tony Sipp. With the game tied,聽the bases loaded, and two outs, Saunders grounded ball to the first baseman Jesus Guzman who tossed it to Sipp on the cover but the hustle by Saunders and the heads up baserunning by Stefan Romero enabled the Mariners to take a 3-1 lead. They eventually got the win by that score. Good guy Saunders coming through in the clutch!

Hawks sign 2 draft picks
The Seahawks were able to sign offensive lineman Justin Britt and Garrett Scott today to rookie contracts. They should add depth to an offensive line that while efficient was ravaged by injuries last season.聽
Britt, who started 36 games at the University of Missouri, should figure to be in the mix to start on the line for the Seahawks.聽
Scott while not projected to start, will add depth to an injury riddled line, which is always good to have.聽

Early day baseball for the Mariners today! They are visiting Texas today and they are quietly putting together a聽decent season under their standards. They sit at 21-22 but most experts projected them to finish in the American League west cellar again. It will be interesting to see whether or not they can finish above .500 which would be considered a success.

Eastern Conference
The Pacers come into tonight's game up 1-0 on Miami in the eastern conference finals. But even if the Pacers win tonight, does that mean Miami is done? It seems to me that Miami is one of the few teams in the league that would be able to come back from a 2-0 deficit and win a series. They certainly aren't as good as they were last year but with veterans like Ray Allen, Shane Battier, and of course Lebron, you can't count them out of any series. Not to mention, this years pacers have been the biggest Jekyll & Hyde in quite some time. One matchup I'll be keeping an eye on is Mario Chalmers vs George Hill. Both talented but inconsistent point guards, I think they will both be x factors for their teams tonight. The game is on ESPN tonight at 5:30 pacific time.
