Murfreesboro is one of Tennessee’s best cities hands down. It is so close to Nashville with its limestone cliff dummy post
Murfreesboro is one of Tennessee’s best cities hands down. It is so close to Nashville with its limestone cliff passageway, and there are tons of attractions and restaurants. There is plenty of history, too, with Stones River Battlefield and much more. I have written about restaurants in Murfreesboro TN before, and Demos Restaurant is the best one. It had been around for a long time. Let’s look at three other great restaurants in Murfreesboro TN.
Marina’s On The Square is a popular place. It has a nice black awning out front that makes it look like a sophisticated downtown bistro. It is an Italian restaurant that serves up delicious lasagna, cheesecake, and wait, that’s all I need. All joking aside, this restaurant located on North Maple Street is a great pick. Tuscan Shrimp Pasta is another favorite dish mentioned in the reviews. dummy post

Find A Bite To Eat At These Restaurants In Murfreesboro TN

Buster’s Place is a great place to get a burger, and the pictures of the food look great. Buster’s Place is on NW Broad Street, and it is a great place to get wings, too, and also onion rings and more. One reviewer said that you can get the best burger in the city at this place, which I kind of expected. It looks like one of those restaurants in Murfreesboro, Tennessee that you can always enjoy. It’s always time for a burger, right?
I’m going with Old Chicago for the third restaurant because of the fact it looks like it serves up some extremely delicious pizza pies. I have a thing for calling them pizza pies these days. It must have been that trip to New York last Christmas. This is Chicago style pizza though of course. Old Chicago along with Marina’s On The Square and Buster’s Place are going to be three great places to eat while you’re in Murfreesboro TN.

Accused church shooter worked as security guard, was renewing license before shooting
Emanuel Samson is escorted by police after being interviewed. (Photo: Metro Nashville Police Department)
MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) –
State records with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance show accused church shooter Emanuel Samson was previously licensed to be an unarmed security guard and the News 4 I-Team has learned he was in the process of renewing the license before the shooting at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ.
The I-Team has confirmed that last Friday, Samson was taking a class at the Academy of Personal Protection and Security in Nashville in order to renew his license.
"He was quiet and nice," said owner Buford Tune. "There was nothing outstanding about him at all."
Samson had contacted the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance about completing the required training on Friday, according to spokesman Kevin Walters.
Tune said Samson was sent to take the all-day class by his new employer. Tune said to his knowledge, Samson worked his first shift Saturday, but was fired on Sunday after not showing up for a shift.
That same day, Samson allegedly shot six people at a house of worship.
The I-Team confirmed Samson had also tried to apply for a job at the security company G4S in Nashville back in June. But a corporate spokeswoman said Samson failed the screening process, which included a drug test and background check.
Samson has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Melanie Crow, 38, of Smyrna, outside Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch. He will face additional charges after shooting six other people, including the church’s minister Joey Spann, and pistol-whipping another person.
Previous police records reveal another side to Samson’s life.
According to a police report, on June 27, Murfreesboro police responded to a call about suicidal thoughts.
Samson’s father, Vanansio Samson, told police that his son Emanuel had sent a text to him early that morning stating, “Your phone is off, I have a gun to my head. Have a nice f****** life.”
According to the police report, Vanansio Samson tried to call his son and could not make contact.
Police pinged Emanuel Samson’s phone to an address in Nashville, which turned out to be the local G4S office. Murfreesboro Police said upon contacting Samson, he said his father Vanansio had overblown the situation.
A G4S spokeswoman said that’s about the time Samson was attempting to file application paperwork before failing the screening process.
On Jan. 29, Murfreesboro police responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at a home on North Rutherford Boulevard.
The police report states that his girlfriend, Jeanna Ambrose, was arguing with her boyfriend.
The report cites Ambrose said that she believed Samson had cheated on her.
According to the report, at one point, Samson turned away from her and punched a small TV, breaking it.
The report also cites that Samson broke a small figurine, and when Ambrose tried to leave the room, Samson demanded that she talk to him.
Ambrose called police and Samson refused medical attention for his hand, and Samson left the residence.
On March 11, at 2:25 p.m., a police report indicates Samson called police, saying that he was trying to break all contact with Ambrose and claimed that she kept coming around.
Samson reported that Ambrose showed up and was banging on his door and that he was in fear of her because Ambrose had allegedly struck him before.
No threat or report of an assault was made that day.
Ambrose claimed in the report that she was coming to the house to pick up her things.
Murfreesboro PD did not arrest Samson for any of the incidents during 2017.
Samson had a criminal interaction with the LaVergne Police Department in 2008, according to a records custodian. But because Samson was a minor at the time, the department could not release those records.
In 2015, Samson was listed as the victim of an aggravated burglary in Smyrna, according to Sgt. Bobby Gibson with the Smyrna Police Department.
The following is the statement from Crimson Security, the last place Samson worked until the day of the shooting:
Mr. Samson was hired by our company to work as an unarmed security officer. He attended and completed state-mandated classes on Friday September 22, 2017. He submitted his documentation to Crimson Security Service per the state requirements. He first reported to work on Saturday, September 23, 2017, for training purposes only. There was no incident or indication of any problem with Mr. Samson at any time during his shift. The company received a text from him on Sunday morning around 10:00 am advising that he would not return to work for us. Crimson Security Service terminated his employment upon receipt of his message. That was the last communication Crimson Security Service had with Mr. Samson. As a locally based member of the community, Crimson Security is deeply saddened by this tragedy and is more dedicated than ever to keeping our community safe.

OnlineCollegePlan.Com Names Best Online Schools in Tennessee
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., Sept. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — With 93% of the state of Tennessee being rural, people tend to forget that many of their schools serve tens of thousands of students a year, and that they are striving to provide them with a variety of options when it comes to earning their degrees. There are almost 200 fully accredited schools throughout Tennessee, and many of them offer online degrees. Those schools were ranked, and you can read about the best of them in OnlineCollegePlan.Com’s latest article, Top 20 Best Online Colleges in Tennessee:
The Tennessee Board of Regents has become more committed to online education in recent years, as demonstrated by the launch of their TN eCampus last year in 2016. They provide a comprehensive list of all available online programs, which totals over 500, from a variety of different schools. They guarantee that all programs listed are fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) or the Council on Occupational Education (COE). The degree programs range from associate’s to doctoral levels, spanning a multitude of areas of study.
The research editor of this piece, Zack Dawson, used a concrete methodology centered around graduation and freshman retention to score each of the schools. Big names like the University of Memphis, Tennessee Tech, and Vanderbilt University made the list; however, small schools also had their chance to shine throughout the article. Unsurprisingly, Vanderbilt University came in at number one. Their freshman retention rate is currently 97%, and their graduation rate trails slightly behind at a still impressive 92%. Due to the picturesque campus situated in the star-studded city of Nashville, it is easy to let a more traditional educational approach come to mind when we think of Vanderbilt; however, this article proves that their online programs cover a variety of areas without sacrificing any of the quality and prestige that comes along with being a Commodore.
You can read the full list of schools in descending order below:
20. Chattanooga State Community College (Chattanooga, TN) 19. Dyersburg State Community College (Dyersburg, TN) 18. Cleveland State Community College (Cleveland, TN) 17. Columbia State Community College (Columbia, TN) 16. Tennessee State University (Nashville, TN) 15. Bethel University (McKenzie, TN) 14. Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN) 13. East Tennessee State University (Johnson City, TN) 12. Middle Tennessee State University (Murfreesboro, TN) 11. University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (Chattanooga, TN) 10. Carson-Newman University (Jefferson City, TN) 9. University of Memphis (Memphis, TN) 8. University of Tennessee at Martin (Martin, TN) 7. Lee University (Cleveland, TN) 6. Confederate statue covered with sheet overnight in Murfreesboro
(Courtesy: TN Anti Racist Network)
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – A statue honoring Rutherford County Confederate soldiers is now the center of controversy. Someone covered it with a sheet Sunday night.
There has even been some social media talk about people wanting to rip it down, but a local homeless advocate wants the statue moved to a different location before someone resorts to violence.
Perched high above, a Confederate soldier has kept watch over the Rutherford County square since 1901. But not everyone wants to see it there another 116 years.
“Maybe we can learn something about each other, why do you want this gone? Why do you want this still here,” asked Murfreesboro Cold Patrol director Jason Bennett.
After a rally against violence was over Sunday at the square, someone climbed the monument and covered the statue.
“Tearing down statues or covering them up without talking to both sides and all of that,” Bennett said. “I think that those things are hasty and I think there is a better way.”
Bennett is a homeless advocate and would like to see the monument and statue honoring Confederate soldiers moved before someone topples it.
“There is probably a way to do this bipartisan where both sides of the argument can be respected and some of these monuments move and relocated to different areas, especially in our community, I believe that’s the right thing to do,” Bennett said. “We don’t want to see a bunch of fighting you know we don’t want to see people in the middle of the night tearing down statues.”
County maintenance workers discovered the covering over the statue early Monday morning and quickly took it down.
Rutherford County commissioner and local history buff Pettus Read said when the monument was moved to its current location in 1914, the soldier’s eyes were positioned northeast, sending a clear message to Washington D.C. about the Battle of Murfreesboro.
“They hoped that never again would they have to use this type of tactic or force to deal with an Army coming from their Nation’s Capital to divide a Nation, and they hope this Nation will always be a Nation as one and not a Nation divide,” Read said.
Read said in 1929 there was a reunion Confederate soldiers who gathered as one at the monument.
“There were both African-Americans and white soldiers that were there so some did serve in the Confederate Army together and they used that Statue to show they are united together,” Read said.
Bennett would like to see the monument and statue moved to a Confederate Cemetery or Memorial saying by it being on the square, it doesn’t represent everyone.
News 2 was told the monument was paid for with donations from local Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The Sons of Confederate Veterans also erected a monument at the foot of the soldier.
News 2 reached out to both groups and are still waiting to hear back.
Metro police are imploring the public for information on…

It’s In The Game: Murfreesboro Man Playing ‘Call Of Duty’ Accidentally Fires Real Gun
MURFREESBORO, TN — Popular video game "Call of Duty" is lauded by critics and gamers alike for its realistic simulation of warfare and, according to police, a Murfreesboro man got so engrossed in the fake shooting, he accidentally perpetrated a real one.
A 75-year-old woman found a hole in the wall of her apartment and part of a discharged rifle round nearby and called Murfreesboro Police. Next door, they discovered 21-year-old Aaron Curtis playing the game with a loaded AR-15 rifle sitting in his lap, according to a police report.
(For more updates on this story and free news alerts for your neighborhood, sign up for your local Middle Tennessee Patch morning newsletter.)
"While playing the game Mr. Curtis stated that he got into the game and the rifle accidentally went off," the report says.
It was not clear exactly how the gun went off or why Curtis had the rifle in his lap in the first place.
Thankfully, the bullet went low, though the neighbor said it did nearly strike her dog.
Curtis, who owns the gun legally, is charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment.

Murfreesboro Mosque Releases Vandalism Surveillance Footage
MURFREESBORO, TN — The Islamic Center of Murfreesboro released surveillance footage Thursday showing the weekend vandalism that say explicit messages spray painted on the mosque and its playground and bacon left on the front stoop.
The video shows the vandals arriving around 3 a.m. Tuesday. (For more updates on this story and free news alerts for your neighborhood, sign up for your local Middle Tennessee Patch morning newsletter.)
Detectives have spoken with federal authorities about the crime.
“We are looking for anyone with information about people who may have talked about defiling the mosque,” Rutherford County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin said.
The Islamic Center has been under attack nearly from the moment it chose to relocate to the Veals Road property on the edge of Murfreesboro. After unanimous approval by the Rutherford County Planning Commission in 2010, opponents — which included Lou Ann Zelenik, at the time running for the Republican nomination to the United States Congress — argued that the ICM wasn’t a religious institution, saying that it was a political group that had connections with terrorists who wanted to impose Sharia law, and arguing that Islam wasn’t a religion — then-Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, who was running for governor at the time, questioned whether Islam was more akin to a cult.
When judges, elected officials, including Murfreesboro’s Republican mayor Ernest Burgess, and the United States Department of Justice refuted those claims, opponents filed a number of convoluted lawsuits, arguing that proper public notice was not given and that the planning commission violated the state’s open-meeting law.
In the meantime, Laurie Cardoza-Moore, a lobbyist for anti-Islam group Proclaiming Justice To The Nation, spearheaded a lawsuit alleging the ICM was part of a broad conspiracy to "take over" Middle Tennessee. Herman Cain, then a candidate for president, criticized the mosque as well.
Nevertheless, construction persisted, even after excavators used in groundbreaking were doused with gasoline and set on fire. The mosque opened its doors in August 2012 and in the ensuing time has received bomb threats and been the victim of occasional incidents of vandalism.

Murfreesboro Mosque Vandalized Again
MURFREESBORO, TN — Vandals spray painted and left bacon outside the entrance of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro sometime over the weekend.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said obscenities were spray painted on the side of the building and on the center’s basketball court and that bacon was placed near a doorway.
