The other day when I wrote & drew about blob, BeLinDa BuRgLe, & introduced her boyfriend, blob, BoB BoOdLe Sr., a question was asked by an inquiring mind. ( Darn those inquiring minds). Her question was; “Is there a Bob, Jr. ?” So, I answered, “Well, actually, Bob Sr., can’t have kids—at least he thinks that’s the case. He always wanted a title, so he adopted a dog, and named him, BoB BoOdLe Jr. So, in his mind, he automatically became Bob Boodle Sr... This is “Steve” the clover, wishing you a Happy St. Patrick’s Day! —His name isn’t very Irish, and there happens to be a story. —When “Steve” was about to bloom, his mother, Shannon, had planned on naming him “Patrick”. This name she held dear to her heart. It was her grandfather’s name, whom she was very close to. Of course, she dreamed many years of naming her first born, boy clover, Patrick. —However, minutes before he was flowering, her, then, best friend, Sinead, stole the name for her new clover baby! Egads! Naturally, there couldn’t be two Patrick clovers in their small patch. —As a consequence, Shannon made a fast decision for a name change. Steve, was the name of a clover she had a crush on in her school days. GiNNy OrLanDo was a hoop girl. Not as in basketball, or hula, but the earring kind. You may also say she’s a bit biased to the hoops. It began back in 1985 when she got her ears pierced. The stud was a dud, in her book, and she couldn’t wait to get it out of her ear lobe. But the hoop...with that loop....well, she delighted in that feature. It was swingy, and bouncy, and she thought it had spunk. Yes, as you can see, she brought life to her earrings & gave them a personality. Ginny had countless pairs, and even mixed the twin sets with one another. So next time you put on a pair of hoop earrings, think of Ginny. RoSeMaRy IdELmaN sat in the 5 th chair to the right of the coffee shop door, every Wednesday. She faced the consumers as they ordered and waited for their brew. This was a spot where she knew she would be on display for the bored coffee waitees. Rosemary adored attention. She was a runner-up for almost every pageant she entered some 40 years ago. Alas, she craved the attention again, but now she quested it in more creative ways. Rosemary’s newest twist was wearing her favorite bathrobe and flannel pajamas to the coffee shop. She betted on how many suspected that her wardrobe was night wear. If this didn’t budge a remark, or facial expression, then she would move on to another idea for the next week. Of course, the rest of herself had to be coiffed to the hilt. Those were her rules. The day before her coffee encounter, she visited Marco’s Hair House to have her hair styled, and on the morning of, she applied full make-up, and polished her nails. On Wednesday she faced the crowd and kept a talley of the stares of confusion, and also received a remark, or two. This was her amusement, and her way of getting her craved attention. A delectable bite of AlBeRt’s gold-star bAkLavA...drawn by Jules. I visited him again, and learned that he is 93 years old. Just a kid. — I told Albert that I wrote about our acquaintance. He asked me to read it to him. As I finished, he grabbed a tissue, and gave me a tight hug. Of course, he insisted I take another piece of baklava. I told Albert I appreciated the offer, but I wanted to pay him. He conceded, and gave me a dollar discount. — I was running before I stopped by, and pulled a crumpled $5 bill from my jacket. He studied it, and diligently straightened it. Albert then schooled me on crumpled bills, and added that he didn’t understand why people (me) did this to money. This reminded me of my dad. — Everything was always organized, and had its place. From how the dishwasher was loaded, to packing his suitcase. Whenever he went on a trip, his suitcase was packed to perfection. My daughter inherited my dad’s packing neatness, but not I. — The more I know Albert, the more he reminds me of my dad. I guess I must be missing my dad, or maybe he’s missing me. SiFFiLa MiChAeLs had the sniffles and a pink nose. It wasn’t from a winter cold, or allergies, but a crumpled heart. Lyle was his name. He was on the squatty side...at least he was shorter than her. He had longer than normal earlobes, but she thought they were hot. His go-to shirt was melon colored with tiny blue boats. It looked horrible with his skin color, but she knew it was his favorite, so she welcomed it. He doused his eggs with habanero sauce and topped them with red chili flakes left over from his pizza take-out. She was cool with that too...it wasn’t her stomach. But the sparkler was the quirky, love poems he wrote just for her. They made her heart twirl, and burst in to little fire balls. She missed not just one of those eccentricities that made up her Lyle, but all of them. MiLLiCeNt BraMbLe & her dog, “Pinch”...yes, there is a story to his name, but I’ll save that for another day, we’re taking a pleasant walk in their neighborhood. —Then Marcus appeared. Millicent scooped up Pinch, and gave a subtle, but intentional side glare to her neighbor. Marcus was a bit concerning. Whenever Millicent walked Pinch, he happened to be lurking. Instead of greeting them with a “hello”, he would bark. Millicent had no idea what he was trying to achieve by doing this. Was he being humorous? Sarcastic? Or just rude. —Mindy, Millicent’s best friend, said he was flirting with her, and that he had an awkward way of showing it. —Whatever his intentions, Millicent was not the least bit amused, and certainly was not interested in Marcus or his lame bark.
