Mermay: Mermaid!

Inspired by @juncodraws and her fantastic mermaid crew!

Morena is actually inspired by that one time I went scuba diving and a man-sized moray eel tried to attack one of the other divers right next to me. Morena isn't a jerk like that eel, though! Prompt is Eel from @mydaysaresmall's Mermay list.

She runs the equivalent of a gas station, but for merfolk. Her favorite part of the job is sourcing knick knacks and tchochkies to sell to tourists & fish passing through town.

Holy Poseidon!! Don't @ me, but I much prefer these over the original designs! They're absolutely mesmerizing 😍🩵

#007 - #008 - #009 - The tails of the Squirtle line are made of sea foam, storing air for long dives. They prefer staying at shores and spraying water on random passersby for amusement.

So for this line I had three main goals: 1. Add some more aquatic turtle anatomy on the line. 2. Make their shells based on sea shells, so that i can introduce the blastoise cannons as the shells openings, almost like a siphon. 3. the very popular "put that fur back into the blastoise.

So for my studies i started with studying both a turtle with flippers and one without, and then applying those on my squirtles to see which one worked best. To avoid overlap with the titouga line, I decided to go with the snaked neck turtle as inspiration, but i brought some of the pig nosed turtle's nose to the line because its cute

The tails turning into some sea foam-y subsance and the fur ending up looking more like gills came later, to tie down random parts of the design into a more water related theme, instead of it just being a water type because its a blue turtle. also it storing oxygen is a reference to turtles breathing outta their ass btw. they do that

The rest just came from me enjoying drawing turtles and making it as accurate as i could without losing the whimsy

A White-tailed deer is how I've been representing myself for many years as an artist. I've always admired their quiet mystique existences and flighty nature. They're very common in my area, yet I'm still always comforted by seeing them. I just want to pull a Tarzan and follow them into the woods haha

I'm drawing something, but it has something to do with Oblivion Remastered. I'm playing Oblivion Remastered at the moment. Very Much. xD (sorry Rogue Trader xD) I do have some WIP Rogue Trader, but it's more of a doodle and I don't know if I will ever finish drawing them. They are under the cut, if you still want to see them.

Tada! For mermaid AND anime fans alike, I drew the Zombieland Saga girls as merms!

Starting off with our girl ✨️Sakura✨️, the tail I chose for her is a Princess parrotfish because I wanted something to contrast her red hair beautifully (the "princess" is accurate too; our sweet princess Sakura🩵). It didn't come out exactly how I hoped, but I'm learning! -Although the glitter was a nice save, tho hard to see here😅- Sakura is such a good girl, I love her sm. She's often very relatable too!

Next up, my girl ✨️Junko✨️ (Who I unironically relate with the most👀).

I definitely wanted the two professional idols of the group to be dolphins, and I loved how the colors of the Striped dolphin match Junko's patchwork so well. The soft colors really bring out her hair and eyes! I hope we learn how she died in the upcoming movie🙏

Ay! It's ✨️Ai✨️

I thought the Atlantic spotted dolphin was a cute choice for her since it matches her hair so well. But I don't even want to think about Kotaro applying his Hollywood makeup on that tail😶

Ai is a good bean. I really enjoyed her character growth. I'm glad she has Junko to relate with.🩵

Next up, ✨️Lily✨️

I definitely wanted a brightly colored reef fish for this lil bundle of joy, and the orange of the Snowflake clownfish really makes her blue hair pop! It was also fun (and super convenient) turning her star hair pieces into starfish^^

Lily is a solid character. I love how optimistic and supportive she is, and how she isn't petty like some other child celebrity actors. For 12 years old, she's very mature!

Our badass ✨️Saki✨️, heck yeh😎

I knew I needed something fast and powerful for our favorite biker gang leader, and a Blue marlin immediately came to mind. She'll rough you up good!

Saki is definitely one of my favorites. She's strong and hardcore, but not in an obnoxious overbearing sort of way. I love her little fangirlisms, and determination to lead the group right. Love ya girl!🫡

✨️Yugiri✨️ my queen🩵

I just HAD to go with the classic Koi for our favorite courtesan. It was obvious from the start.

Yugiri is my second favorite of the group. She's so stoic and smart, and I call her the "resident slapper." XD She definitely has final boss energy and I'd follow her anywhere🩵 Slay Queen💅

Last but most definitely not least, ✨️Tae✨️

Tae gives me major seal vibes (merfolk-wise), so I made her a Harbor seal Selkie!

For too long I've listened to Hayley Westenra without deciding on what to imagine her as. So I finally chose this mermaid! She was also technically a part of the og Celtic Woman group once, so it works out!

Name: Halle (hah-lee) ♀️

Nickname: none

Inspiration/voiceclaim: Hayley Westenra

Role: deep sea traverser

Specializes in: surveying the abyssal zone and sustaining healthy deep sea life.

Interests: Languages and whalesong, discovering ancient artifacts, finding rare or new species.

The rarest of merfolk, Halle is a deep-sea mermaid who spends most of her life at the bottom of the ocean. This lifestyle allowed her kind to evolve with bioluminescence and deep sea gigantism, making her twice the size of an average merfolk (some even larger). She has only met Delphina on her Sperm whale routes to and from the open ocean. They are relatively good acquaintances, although Dee would love to introduce Halle to her friend group and spend more time getting to know her. Unfortunately Halle surfaces for only a short time before returning to her abyssal home.

D: *gasp* They're coming!

D: Halle, welcome back!

H: I can always depend on a warm welcome from you Delphina. It's nice to see you again.

D: How's the deep treating you? Discover anything new lately?

H: Indeed!

Inspiration/voiceclaim: Méav Ní Mhaolchatha

Role: midwife

Specializes in: assisting merfolk and marine mammals (and other viviparous animals) in labor.

Interests: teaching kids, relationships/family, love.

Bri, the youngest of the four, is very family oriented; she lives for healthy relationships and raising kids right. She's a good mediator, and thrives in connecting with couples and families. This trait tends to result in invasion of personal space and oversharing, however her intentions are only ever to offer the best care she can to keep everyone healthy.

"Well that's a very good question, little one! You see, it all begins-" (starts giving a VERY detailed explanation).

Role: Elasmobranch care

Specializes in: caring for sharks, rays, skates, and sawfish. Especially sharks.

Interests: sharks.

Clarke can come off as rather peculiar, especially for always wearing a shark fin on her back. She's never told anyone the story behind it, and she's often quiet and aloof, so folks don't usually approach her. Not even her best friends know much about her. But she has a beautiful connection with sharks like no other, and she can sometimes sense things before they happen. Her friends see her as kind, shy, and uniquely wise.
