World Juniors 2023 It's December, and that can only mean one thing that is that the IIHF World Junior Championship is taking place.

The best hockey players under 20 players will take to the ice for a fight for bragging rights and the top spot. The reigning titleholder United States is aiming for the first time in history that the country has won back-to-back championships. Don't be expecting this to be an easy task to the Americans.

Canada will once more be playing in its home stadium and will be remembered for an incredible 2021 tournament beaten in the U.S. in the ultimate game. Fans are returning to the stadium at 50 % capacity, Hockey Canada will surely be hoping for a gold return to the field for the first time in Canada's home stadium since 2015.

As usual it is, as always, the World Juniors are expected to be full of big goals, big saves , and ever greater victories. With pride for the nation at stake the fight for gold will be intense. Canada-Finland to headline New Year’s Eve games at 2022

The 2022 event was extended by one day because games were only on one rink in 2023, the 2023 tournament will be returning to the regular schedule that run from Boxing Day to Jan. 5.

Group stage which consists of two teams of five each, will last for the initial seven days of competition and conclude on New Years Eve. The remaining eight teams will get New Year's Day off before returning to play for the quarterfinals in January. 2. The winner of these matches will be advancing into the semis two days after. 2023's World Junior Championship will take place in Edmonton and Red Deer, Aberta. USA Hockey will play its round-robin matches at WP Centrium in Red Deer Hockey Canada's games and playoffs will be played in Rogers Place.

In the beginning, the 2022 championship was planned to take place at Gothenburg, Sweden. But, due to the COVID-19 disease, the tournament was moved towards Canada to be held for 16th consecutive time ever in history. In the wake of the revenue loss from the 2021's fanless event within Edmonton's Bubble, Sweden okayed swapping years with Canada. Gothenburg will host the tournament in 2024. Russia (Omsk as well as Novosibirsk) is scheduled to host the 2023 edition.

This is the 4th time Edmonton is hosting World Juniors games. The first time was 1995 when Canada won the gold medal and in 2012, Sweden triumphed and Canadians placed third in the capital city of Alberta. In 2021, the United States beat Canada for gold.

The teams will play four preliminaries games each using a round-robin system within their respective groups and then play an all-round playoff.

At the stage of group play, players receive 3 points for each win in regulation while two points are awarded for overtime wins while one points are awarded for overtime loss. Four teams in the top 4 in each group will play an inter-club quarterfinal match 1A against. 4B 1B 4B vs. 4A, 2A against. 3B and 2B against. 3A. Teams that win will be returned to the semifinals.

Teams that make it to the last stage of the competition (bronze-medal or the gold medal game) can play 7 games in total.
