I started reading Trigger Warnings and have gotten through the introduction, in which Neil Gaiman gives a section of background on every single story in the collection. And in several of them he talks about Amanda Palmer, and he makes her sound like the ultimate manic pixie dream girl, and I roll my eyes because I want to shout SHE'S NOT REAL THAT'S JUST A TROPE YOU CAN'T MARRY A TROPE.

It is interesting to me how people will remember something someone says over something someone does, often.

Finally reading the rest of the Sandman series. I think back when I started reading them I had to buy them because my library didn't carry them, so I only read the first four volumes. Now my local library has them, however. They have more books than ever. Although, lately they've been carrying less poetry. I still wish they'd hired better artists for the series. I would just like characters to look like themselves across the stories.

It reads like a four-year-old had input, particularly with the "billion years" part.

A bit bummed that it takes an ep of "Master of None" for my husband to admit that he arrogantly dismisses my experience of things sometimes. He's getting better.

"Tin House: What can you tell us about your first workshop experience as a participant?
Lacy M. Johnson: Picture me at 19 years old: I’m a tiny little waif of a person wearing a black leather biker jacket, black jeans, black boots. Lots of heavy black makeup. The poems matched: broody love poems, goth sex poems, basically Twilight meets 50 Shade poems. I think I submitted them exclusively to The Paris Review."
Winter Workshop Buoy: Lacy M. Johnson
Tin House: What is the best piece of advice you have received or heard given in a workshop?
Lacy M. Johnson: You mean besides “stop writing goth sex poems"?

Get ready to stare in WONDER.
Our Renwick Gallery – which houses @americanartmuseum‘s craft and decorative arts program – reopens Nov. 13 after a major two-year renovation.
For the inaugural exhibition WONDER, nine contemporary artists have reimagined the historic space as a giant, immersive work of art. They use unexpected materials (discarded tires, and yes, those are real bugs) and painstaking labor (mountains of index cards individually glued together, or thousands of threads hung by hand). While visually diverse, all of these works transform the ordinary into the awe-inspiring.
The Renwick was the first building in the U.S. built to be an art museum. Now’s your chance to see it as you never have before.

Memento mori ring, made in Flanders, Belgium, or France, 1526-1575 (source). The book opens to reveal an inscription and a figure with a hourglass and skull. The cover has snakes and toads around the central skull, figures representing the Fall and Expulsion form the shoulders of the ring, and the back of the loop features clasped hands.
