Here is a log of retro kissaten I have visited during the time I lived in Japan (2016-2022). Most are situated in Tokyo, but some are from elsewhere in Japan, and even in Taipei. Kissa (喫茶) or Kissaten (喫茶店): Literally "tea-drinking shop" or café/coffee house, but more often used for older and traditional Japanese cafés. The old kissaten I visited are called Junkissa (純喫茶), "pure" kissa. They are usually established during the later part of the showa era (1926-1989) and are often still operated by the same owners. Obviously, since the owners who are still alive are getting quite old, junkissa are slowly dying down if not passed down to a new generation of owners. Their menu is quite traditional from the showa period; they usually serve drip or syphon coffee (of various quality, depending on the kissa, ranging from excellent to terrible), tea (usually black tea served straight, with a lemon wedge or milk, but also royal milk tea), floats (the most typical being melon soda float called "cream soda") and various drinks. They sometimes have kissa food, such as curry, napolitan, omurice, toasts and desserts, like pudding, coffee jelly and cakes.
