That day hadn’t started well for Cyno. He woke up from a nightmare even before his alarm went off, bumped his head on the door on his way out, tripped and scraped his arm, and to top it all off, almost arrived late to the workshop because he’d forgotten his phone at home.

All that stress built up before the matcha workshop even began, giving him a pounding headache. Still, he was determined to continue his matcha journey in Uji. It was something he had always wanted to do; making matcha from scratch, at least once in his life.

“You look like a mess,” Abby remarked the moment he walked into the workshop room.

Cyno rubbed his forehead. “Rough morning,” he replied, then took a seat next to Matteo, who was sitting beside Abby.

“Here, drink this. The workshop’s about to start,” Matteo said, handing him a cup of matcha latte. Cyno raised an eyebrow.

“I didn’t drink from it, alright?” Matteo added, as if he could read Cyno’s mind.

Cyno chuckled and took a sip. A sigh escaped his lips after the first taste. Finally, something good. “Thanks, hyung.”

After finishing (or rather, stealing) the latte, an announcement signaled the beginning of the matcha workshop.

The session kicked off with a lesson on matcha's origins. Cyno learned that it came from the Camellia sinensis plant, typically harvested in spring.

He listened attentively and absorbed all the new information. Eventually, the instructor, Aya, invited everyone to make their own matcha.

A wide smile spread across Cyno’s face as he got to experience it all; from harvesting tencha leaves to witnessing their steaming and drying, and finally grinding them into fine matcha powder. It was a remarkable experience that made him forget how terrible his day had started.

Next, they sifted the matcha into the natsume, scooped it with a chasaku, and whisked it with a bit of water. Cyno followed the steps until Aya gave them the 'go-ahead' to taste their matcha.

It was the best matcha he’d ever had. He couldn’t tell if it was because of how unlucky his day had been or because he had just fulfilled one of his dreams, but the taste brought him a deep sense of calm.

“Today wasn’t so bad after all,” Cyno murmured, grinning from ear to ear.

I survived.

I've managed to become a research and development staff from a well-known company, along with some modelling side jobs to live on my own while paying off my dad's debt.

I thought everything was finally settled. I thought that I finally didn't have to work from dawn to dawn, getting nosebleeds from overworking, and getting over what my teacher had done to me just for a tuition fee.

But one day, my mother came when I was out to convenience store for lunch. She was with my younger sibling, and two other kids that I didn't even recognize.

"You've grown up so well.."

"You're a successful man now.."

"Could you perhaps.. lend me a hand to pay for your siblings' study?"

I couldn't say anything. I froze at my spot, my chest was thumping like crazy.

In the end, I was being a total coward ran away again.

The sky cried along with me, the rain poured so hard, disguising my tears. I had so much to say, but I couldn't let out any of it. None, at all.

I stopped running, stood there like a fool, and letting my mind took over me as the world went completely black.

"Mom, I really hope you know how hard things are for me.."

I was a highschooler when my mother decided to bring my little sister with her and leave me with a gamble-addicted dad.

It was winter.

I didn't even have a warm jacket to wrap me up from the coldness.

"Why didn't she take me with her?"

"Am I also a burden for her?"

"Why leaving me with him, with tons of debt that we couldn't solve it ourselves?"

I kept on thinking the same thing, over and over again. I worked my ass off after school, so at least I can continue my study. I tried so hard to study while surviving, just to fall on my knees again.

It was also winter, when I ran out from my teacher's house out of fear.

She paid my tuition, and made me homemade snacks. She helped me with things that I couldn't effort, and supported me with my study.

I should've known that it wasn't for free.

She wanted me as a whole man, threatened on harming herself if I ran away from her. On top of that, she'd create a whole mess in my school if I ever say anything about us.

I, didn't care anymore.

I ran away, not knowing where the finish line was. I didn't ask for much, I just wanted to survive. Is that too much to ask for?
