“C-can we go over this last bit again?” Dayeon could feel his lungs squeeze in a quiet plea for a break. Looking at Jun through the practice room mirror, he felt bad. The two of them had been at it for a decent minute, no thanks to Dayeon’s perfectionist nature. “One last time,” he added hurriedly, “After this we’ll take a break. Promise.”

He felt bad. For a long time he’d almost automatically fallen into a friendly older brother type of role with most of the other, newer trainees at Rainbow Road. Even if some of them had been the same age or older, Dayeon had been with the company since 2016, giving him plenty of experience. Paired with his urge to help the people around him that sort of thing had come to him naturally. He’d been so taken up with his own worries now, though, the nervousness of the impending audition shoot looming over their heads, that he hadn’t even paid attention to how Jun was doing outside of how well in sync they were.

“I’m sorry.” Dayeon swallowed. “I’m being pushy today. I don’t mean to be, it’s just–” He kicked the ground lightly, the rubber sole of his trainers making a penetrant squeaking noise. “Pre-show jitters,” he admitted quietly. It wasn’t really something he felt like he had to be all that private about with Jun, the two of them had been training for so long together already, saying it out loud just made the mildly nauseating twist in the pit of his stomach tighten an extra little bit. “Do you feel ready? Because I really don’t.” In fact, the weight of his crumbling self-esteem had prompted Dayeon to stumble over his lines more than once in the past few run-throughs. If he didn’t watch himself he worried he’d make things worse not only for himself, but for Jun as well.

Jun turned to the other and smiled softly. ❛ Sure! ❜ Jun understood the need to be perfect and the pressure that the show they were about to enter brought. Thankfully, they at least had each other and we’re going into the show alone. He and Dayeon had been practicing for some time and it still wasn’t right. ❛ It’s fine! We can keep going as long as we need to, ❜ he reassured with a smile.

Jun was the kind of person that was easily adaptable and was more of a follower than a leader. Well, most of the time. He always had a smile on his face and an upbeat and bright personality that lit up a room. He would always greet others when he passed them and he tried to befriend as many people as he could. He was more the kind to be babied than to be a hyung. This came from being the youngest in his family. Jun had been at Rainbow Road for some time now and so he’s learned how to adapt and survive. Moving to Korea was hard at first, but now he’s gotten used to life in Korea. Now the two boys had been chosen to participate in Select! Boys and were preparing for their upcoming audition.

❛ Don’t be sorry! I’m ok. I also feel like you do so please don’t stress! ❜ He smiled brightly. He appreciated Dayeon worrying about him but he was fine. He wanted to make sure they were both ready. ❛ I get it, don’t worry. ❜ Honestly, at this point, Dayeon was like his best friend. They had been training together for so long now he felt like the other was one of his closest friends. Jun shook his head and chuckled. ❛ Oh definitely not. I am scared and uneasy. We don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m anxious and scared. ❜

☀ SELECT! PR VIDEO ☀

It was still hard to believe that he was about to film his introduction video for Select! To think, he’d not even be here if it weren’t for his family. They were the ones who had encouraged him to take the last final leap into following his dreams and now here he was planning for his introduction video. It was funny to think where life took you sometimes. There’s a reason why Jun didn’t plan much into the future. He never knew where his future would take him.

There were so many interesting and creative ways he could introduce himself to the world. However, for whatever reason, Jun simply could not decide. He definitely wasn’t as skilled as some of the other trainees in terms of talent or special skills. The only thing going for him was that he was from Australia and could speak English. He couldn’t exactly use that for his ‘special skill’. Maybe he could use being Aussie to his advantage?

One things that he noticed when he moved to Korea was how different Korea and Australia were. There were so many Australian things that he missed and longed for. Suddenly, he had an idea. It may seem weak or stupid, but it was something.

Jun reached into his bag and pulled out his small tube of Vegemite - something he always made sure to have with him at all times. He quickly searched for a piece of bread or two and grinned brightly when he found some. He smothered the bread in the spread and got ready for his video.

Once everyone was happy with how he looked, the video began.

❛ Hello everyone! I’m Rainbow Road trainee Jun. I’m twenty-one years old and come from Australia. ❜ He grinned brightly as he spoke in English. It still felt natural to him.  ❛ I'm not as creative or skilled as my fellow trainees but maybe I can impress you with something? ❜ He spoke in Korean this time, ending with a chuckle. He reached off screen for the bread, bringing it closer to his head.

❛ For those who may not know, this is Vegemite. And if you’ve ever had it you know how it tastes. I am going to eat this bread in one go! ❜ He chuckled. The Vegemite was layered on the bread and it was more spread than bread at this point. Grinning brightly, Jun took a big bite of the snack. It reminded him of home. He continued to eat the snack without making any facial expressions or grimacing.

❛ That may not be entertaining, but if you know Vegemite then I hope you were impressed. If you haven’t tried it yet, maybe don’t put as much on. Trust me, ❜ he winked and laughed softly.

❛ I can’t wait to get to know everyone - especially you. ❜ He winked again before he gave one last gigantic smile and the recording stopped. He was finished.
