//Marius bday story 1 spoilers
Hey zak!
There's this scene in Marius' bday story 1 and I found it really weird, wanted to ask for your thoughts on it
Transcription: (idk tumblr keeps on blocking my ask and im assuming the img is the problem)
Rosa: Or maybe... it's a contrast and has a deeper meaning? Marius: No, it still feels wrong. Marius: Regardless of whether it's the displayed item or the whole exhibition... the vines should be removed. [Marius, as an artist, seems to have arrived at a conclusion. He walks forward as I realize what he's thinking] Rosa: You're planning to remove the vines? Marius: Yup, every art piece's existence should reflect their actual meaning. Since I've seen this, I can't leave it like this.
That's the scene. And then Marius offers his hand to us so we can... remove the vines without asking any questions and Rosa agrees.
I find this whole thing really weird and disrespectful.
Firstly, it's not your exhibition. If you wanna fix shit at your exhibition, feel free, it's your art.
Secondly, people can have different opinions? You think it's unnecessary, maybe whoever made it thinks otherwise.
Thirdly, why not just... ask an employee? Try to locate the creator? Anything but jump to the first conclusion and decide to fix shit??? Like who do you think you are.
And they wrote this scene for Marius too and I'm just... why???? If it wasn't specifically Marius, I'd at least somewhat understand where they're coming from. But like, it's Marius??? He should extra know to NOT do this???
This is like if I beta read for a friend and thinks that half their thing makes no sense, and instead of asking them for clarification, I just delete 50% of their work and pat myself on the back.
Like... no. I'm gonna screenshot as much of it as I can, try my best to explain why I find it confusing, and ask them if this is what they intended when they wrote it. And if they say it's ok to delete, I'll delete it.
But without given permission, I'm not gonna possibly ruin their work because it doesn't make sense to me.
sorry about the no images in asks haha but no yeah i totally get where youre coming from
i feel like this is just another one of those times in game where the story is pleading for you to have HEAPS of suspension of disbelief because otherwise youre reaction is "hey it does not work like that"
i agree that marius, as an artist, would not meddle with how a piece looks. moreover, he would understand that art is not meant to be solved, which irked me that this piece was essentially framed as a "puzzle". which is like, fine okay, that CAN happen but it's very far and inbetween. unless the exhibit was particularly labelled as an interactive one, what rosa and marius did was not great skfjbsld. but yeah. bc theyre the protags, it all worked out in the end
i did enjoy the like, themes of this first part. i will always be a bit feral when it comes to marius and the theme of freedom.
the execution and scenario is where it flopped tho

BTW when you encounter a character and think "What's this guy's fucking problem?" that's your body trying to give you an out before you fall into obsession.

I'm coming to realize how vital it is to keep a running list of shit you did in the past few weeks so that you can participate in small talk. It's literally not anything to do with them being interesting at all it's just having Something to say to give people even the barest thing to hold on to. It's so you don't get into the "what have you been up to" "nothing much what about you" "yeah same" trap. Literally just say something.
What have you been up to? Um well it's getting warmer so I've been having to brush my cat every day.
Like no it's not that interesting of a thing to say. But now they can respond to it. They could say, man yeah it really is heating up, I've been trying to think of things to do inside more often. Or, oh you have a cat? What's their name?
Like. It's Something. All you need is Something. And if you're like me and your brain immediately goes blank upon entering small talk then keeping a list will help you remember things to say.

Theres something so special. About a character saying they're "used to" something. "Im used to pain." "Im used to death." "Im used to be treated like that." "It's okay, I'm used to it." It gets me. Alskskkdwlndjcjsbbsbs

What To Do When It Happens

Write it down. The date. The time. What they said. What you said. What you couldn’t. This isn’t overreacting. It’s documenting.
Tell someone you trust. Not the one who explains it away. The one who believes you.
Save everything. Emails, DMs, texts. Rename the folder something boring.
Find the policy. It’s probably buried under “Respect in the Workplace.” Highlight it like your job depends on it—because it might.
Pay attention to what happens next. The silence. The cold shoulder. The missed invites. That counts too.
If it gets worse, you're not imagining it. Retaliation is common. It’s also illegal.
Don’t quit just to make it stop. Not before you talk to someone. A lawyer. A hotline. A friend who’s been there.
Crying in the bathroom is not unprofessional. Neither is dissociating. Nor surviving.
It’s okay to stay. It’s okay to leave. Either way, you’re strong.
What happened to you matters. Even if you stayed quiet. Even if you laughed. Even if you stayed quiet for a long, long, time.
NOTE: I wrote this on paper first (pic above) but realised my handwriting is mostly indecipherable trash. Didn't want to put you through that. Also, can people born after 2000 even read cursive nowadays? I truly have no idea.
