I've seen SOOOO many posts complaining about new American pope. Understandable.

HOWEVER.

I think it's important to note Pope Leo is a naturalised citizen of Peru. He's spent years working there, became bishop and archbishop there.

in his speech, POPE LEO DIRECTLY ADDRESSED PERUVIANS IN SPANISH, THANKING the ones who came to see him in Rome, and telling Peruvians he hasn't forgotten them, even though he's staying in Rome now. He's also said stuff against JD Vance and what Trump's administration is doing.

He may be American by origin, but I think the fact he didn't mention American in his speech (as far as I remember) but directly addressed Peru and said he hasn't forgotten its people, says a lot about him.

Just something to note.
