friends i am FROTHING AT THE MOUTH over the Nov 1 2008 Wicked boot, Carmen Cusack's penultimate 1NT show with Katie Rose Clarke

it is far and away the best boot I've seen so far in the great chronological watch and just kEPT GETTING BETTER OVER TIME

like. Carmen really gets her teeth into Elphaba and lets her be a bitch when she needs to be

and she and Katie's Galinda are just such fascinating equal-and-opposite autistic4autistic

and Deedee Magno Hall's transition from Nice Nessa to Wicked Nessa is so tangible and legible and good

and Cliffton Hall's Fiyero actually gives thropple for once

and like. it's stellar throughout, and there are so many gay little moments (KATIE KISSES CARMEN'S SHOULDER IN ONE SHORT DAY WTF) but like

after "Wonderful" it just goes. the fuck. OFF.

and by "it" i mostly mean "Katie Rose Clarke"

first of all the REUNION HUG they just CANNOT BEAR TO END so they KEEP FINDING NEW WAYS TO TOUCH

but all good things must end, and when Elphaba and Fiyero leave Glinda is FURIOUS with them and SO HEARTBROKEN

but not as furious as she is with HERSELF. I have never seen an "I'm Not That Girl (Reprise)" that is so dripping with self-hatred and like you stupid bitch of course they left you, you should have known better energy

like PLEASE look at this UNHINGED SHIT katie is doing with her head and neck about "don't wish":

and then after that our big reward is one of the straight-up horniest ALAYM renditions i have EVER seen

and then the catfight

and like. ok. throughout this performance Katie does this Obvious Regret thing where like, Glinda says things aloud and then visibly immediately hears how stupid it sounds and wishes to take it back and there's nothing she can do about it (changing her name to Glinda being the biggest example, but the delivery of "FINE GO, YOU DESERVE EACH OTHER" above is ALSO a great example)

and this fight escalates so quickly because she CANNOT stop making it WORSE

and she KNOWS

but can't QUIT IT

and then Carmen literally STOMPS THE GROUND on "by bubble"

and then delivers "someone like him could actually choose someone like me" in the platonic ideal way that acknowledges thropple, the indictment of Fiyero coming with her when Glinda didn't

and then

Katie ACTUALLY SLAPS HER

SO HARD HER HAT FALLS OFF

AND THEN PLEASE LOOK AT THE SLAP BACK

Katie's "lemme go I almost had her" is FERAL

and afterwards she is still SO MAD that she KICKS THE BROOM

EVEN HER "DO IT" IS MAD, she TURNS HER BACK ON HER

but then

then it's For Good and it starts to dawn on you that it's Carmen's second to last show because she LITERALLY cannot BEAR to look at Katie (who is crying) for most of the song because she knows she'll mcfreaking lose it if she does

but that's fine because when she actually DOES look at her she KISSES HER HAND

this boot has ended me. ENDED ME. @theseerasures and I finished watching it and IMMEDIATELY had to go back and watch the highlights again

shiz era gliyeraba where it’s official and everybody knows is so funny to think about. like this girl who nobody likes because she’s green is now in a polyamorous relationship with the two most popular people in school. people start asking elphaba for relationship advice and she’s like “i have no idea”. morrible is having a fit because there was already one air headed idiot following her prodigy and hope for maintaining power around like a lost puppy and now there’s two of them!!!

Probably the thing I'm looking forward to the most in For Good is the expansion of Dorothy's plotline. Not just because of how it'll help flesh out the story, but also because the musical!Wicked version of the gang is objectively the funniest version in any piece of Oz media ever.

We've got:

Scarecrow - The Wicked Witch of the West's boyfriend who she accidentally zapped into straw while trying to save him from getting executed for treason. Also he's a literal prince, Glinda's ex-fiancee, and the only person here who has anything close to the full story of what's going on.

Tin Man - Elphie's old friend from college who's spent the past few years enslaved to her sister (his ex) and who now hates her because he thinks that she turned him into a human soup can just to be an asshole rather than to save his life. Probably fighting off the beginnings of an existential crisis.

Cowardly Lion - Elphaba saved him from a life of non-sapiency when he was a cub, which he blames for his cowardice. Considering how he was a small child that got abandoned in the wilderness, he kinda has a point.

Dorothy - Literally only here because her house was used as a murder weapon. She just wants to go home, but all of the adults around her keep dragging her into their bullshit. Also, she has a pet dog - a completely foreign concept in Oz that everyone except the Wizard and Morrible most likely finds disturbing as hell.

Being a Wicked fan whose favourite characters are Boq and Nessarose is so hard because for a fandom for media so focused around the idea of complex morality, a lot of Wicked fans seem to have no understanding of complex morality and as a result so many of them fail to grasp the idea that "Boq did not deserve anything that Nessa did to him in act 2 and it is in no way his fault" and "Nessarose was not inherently and irredeemably evil from the start" are both true statements. So basically I'm trying not to participate in Wicked discourse at least until Wicked Part 2 comes out and I see more of their relationship in the movie.

Very low effort comic while reading the Wicked book. I heard somewhere that Elphaba lost her shark teeth when she grew up? Either way, it hasn't come up here yet, and I just found it funny to do this

It’s so funny to imagine Wicked from the perspective of one of the normal students at Shiz. There’s this girl and she’s weird and an overachieving nerd and no one likes her, but then the popular girl becomes best friends with her overnight so you guess she’s chill now. They might be sleeping together but no one’s really sure. They’re also low key dating the same guy but you’re not clear on if it’s a polycule situation or a love triangle. Whatever. You’re just trying to study for finals. Your history teacher gets arrested and no explains why. You just hope this won’t effect your grade in the class. The weird nerdy girl gets a letter from the president inviting her to come see him. Wow, that’s exciting. She and her maybe-girlfriend go off to the capitol and you go back to homework and dorm room parties. One day later one of your professors is on the national radio saying that the weird nerdy girl, who used to be her favorite student, is now a terrorist, has stolen the nuclear codes, and is on the run from the government. You are still expected to show up to class tomorrow.
