We’re nobles obsessed with the look of their kings kids like they are in asoiaf? People seem to really care if their leige lord has the ‘look’. Cateyln fretted over Jon having it yet none of her own, the lords love that Harold hardying had Jon’s look, people grew suspicious over the incest Lannister kids, and black fire supporters hates that their king had the Martell look.

I don't think it's unique to ASOIAF or any historical period for people to be invested in seeing their heritable traits expressed in their kids to whatever degree. Ask a woman how quick her in-laws were to say the new baby looked JUST LIKE THEM while she was still in a hospital gown :|

And before a DNA test, looking like your dad was the only way to really prove paternity, so it was extra useful.

That said, traits don't follow real-world rules in ASOIAF, and I think most humans know that your kid isn't always going to look like you.

I read that the reason the Freys 10/20th sons/brothers/nephews get matches that even some lord paramount don’t are because a family could get well connected since there’s so many families born into it, which is good for networking and alliances. And that this happened a bit throughout history. I was wondering of your opinion on this? How true is it? Would marrying trystane and mycellas child be better than marrying ariannes, and Quentyns? Because of the royal connection through Myrcella?

Having a surplus of children to wed into other families is definitely useful. Ask Queen Victoria. ;) But yeah, once you get into a family by wedding your 4th daughter to someone higher up's 3rd worthless son no one wanted and provide some kind of useful dowry, well, now you're family! So when an even more eligible cousin in the same family needs a bride, maybe you take a look at those in-laws you're already connected with and consider them more seriously than an unknown entity.

I don't know. That sounds like a purely hypothetical situation. But the idea that a musical instrument would lead a woman to networks and power bases sounds pretty unlikely to me.

dr dram I am wondering how you manage, with family and full time work and so on, to write so much and so well. what are some things you do to keep the spark alive and the well flowing (mixed metaphors but you know what I mean)

This is so lovely, because I definitely suffer from the feeling of not writing enough and compare my output to what it once was.

I will say this, and since it was my 20th wedding anniversary yesterday, it is a vital point: I have a partner who does a lot. My husband cooks all our dinners, grocery shops (with my meal plan list in hand), cleans bathrooms, vacuums, does the family laundry, etc. It's unfortunate to say the least, but a lot of women are still out there doing the bulk of the labor, including the emotional labor, in their households. I'm home more than he is, but that doesn't mean I do more chores; I just have more time to be present with the kids, which is the top priority.

Maybe it isn't the sexy answer, but the division of labor in my house makes my creativity possible. That actually might be the most sexy answer, lol. Mr. Dr. Dram is the best, my favorite person.

I need to be creative for my well-being. So if I have time and don't feel like it, I don't rely on "a muse," I just sit down and force myself to write something. Forcing sounds like I don't enjoy it, but I do, and I inevitably feel better for having done it. I'll fall into the trap of streaming instead, but it isn't ever the boost I really need. If I feel stuck, I'll read something I'm still happy with that I've written previously. I write by ear, if you will, so the rhythm of something can be inspiring. Reading a really good piece of fiction or even fanfiction will also get me itching to write, too.

Is this story going to have a happy, tragic, or bittersweet ending?

I’m assuming you mean the Jaime/Sansa one I’m currently posting? Not the Jon/Sansa one I’ve recently discussed but haven’t posted yet. If I’m wrong, correct me.

So I’ve written 3 chapters and I think it’ll be 4. Maybe five depending on pacing. I think it’ll be open ended and hopeful? Maybe that’s a little bittersweet to people who are looking for a different kind of ending. It would leave things open to a different future ending, however.

What the would Ned have done if Lyanna survived the birth of Jon? Robert killed rhaegar and she’d have stretch marks from birth and she’d know about aegon an Elia and Rhaenys murders so no way she’d marry Robert.

🤷🏻‍♀️ I’d love to say kill Robert because Ned’s love for his sister is something I’m pretty passionate about, but she’d probably have to go into exile with Jon?? I don’t know!
