I dont have a particularly coherent way to describe it, but the fact that the main part of your character in Oblivion is created before they can interact with anyone in the world feels so significant in a metatextual way. In Skyrim and Morrowind, you create your character during/after listening to other people talking and getting somewhat of a feel for what is going on. People have already shown you kindness or cruelty or used their power over you, no matter who you are. In Oblivion, you decide how you want to look, you start to get an idea of what sort of person you are, and then are thrown into the world with some asshole shouting obscenities tailored specifically for you. Truly unparalleled.

do fic readers know that their comments actually influence the course of the story sometimes? i don't mean in a "you need to write it this way because i say so 😡" type of comment, i mean when people are asking questions or really engaging with the plot and the themes in the comments they sometimes bring up things that i didn't even think of, or dig into parts of the story that i've overlooked, or get really interested/fixated on something i was going to just kind of glance over--and it has me going 'oh wait that's actually really interesting, that's a good point' and fully adding or tweaking or changing things about the story going forward. i'm literally adding an entire additional chapter to something right now because someone's comment had me like "oh i didn't dig into that as much as i could have." you have impact!

Yep! Research Grade observations are called that for a reason, they be and are used by plenty of researchers! There have been papers written on iNaturalist data, species have been described via iNaturalist, and so on. I personally have collected and sent specimens to multiple researchers who have contacted me because of my iNaturalist observations even
