My boss came into my office all out-of-breath and makeup-less like, “Oh, I’m so sorry I look horrible! I had to take my kids to school this morning and I have a cold, so I didn’t put anything on my face and…”

I stopped her right there. “Why are you apologizing to me for what you naturally look like? You don’t need to do that. Anyway, what do you need, because I have about three deadlines to meet before lunch?” And she was… so taken aback that another woman didn’t care? (Which is weird because I myself do not wear makeup to work.)

It’s so wild to me that grown ass women – women with car payments and mortgages and tax records and shit – are so severely told that their bare faces are so wrong that they think they have to apologize for subjecting people to what they actually look like.

Like, apologize to me for seriously underpaying me in relation to what my job entails, not because you’re showing your face around me. It’s so fucking dystopian, man.
